'Mythbusters' Host Talks Tonight's Episode With President Barack Obama
By Max Orenstein Posted Dec 8th 2010 02:11PM
Hyneman tells PopEater that the one myth they'd love to try and debunk is to see whether the explosions, fire balls and loud noises that happen in science fiction movies in outer space can actually happen.
"I don't know what that would actually be like, and we're probably a long way from finding out," Hyneman said.
There are only two ways to prove it, he said. Either take a trip to the International Space Station and set off some kind of explosion, "which is highly unlikely we'll be allowed to do," or build some sort of earth-bound vacuum chamber and set off an explosion inside of it, which will likely destroy the vacuum.
In tonight's episode, Obama challenges the show's hosts to reexamine their previous attempt at busting the ancient myth that Greek scientist Archimedes polished soldier's shields and used them to reflect the sun's rays to set fire on a fleet of invading Roman ships.
Despite the president's cameo and all of the attention surrounding his appearance on tonight's episode, Hyneman said that it will be pretty similar to all other 'Mythbusters' episodes.
"Actually we made a point of not doing anything unusual," he said. "It was the preference of the White House to treat this like a normal episode."
Hyneman said that there really isn't any other celebrity or world leader he wishes could appear on an episode besides Obama.
"Politics aside, I think of anybody that I can actually relate to, the president is on the top of my list," Hyneman said. "What he's trying to do for this country, I'm just amazed. I think very highly of his efforts."
Tonight's episode, 'President's Challenge,' will air at 9 PM EST on the Discovery Channel.

"What Obama is trying to do for this country, amazing"????? What? You mean destroy our way of life and ramming government down our throats is amazing?? How about this; Big Government is great and efficient...that myth has been busted for many years. Wake up people and get back to the Constitution! What a bad joke Obama is!

I'll be sure not to tune in. That is unless the theme of the show is to disprove the myth spread by the left wing media that this socialist clown is the messiah

Obama is the fake president, promoted by a slick publicist to dupe the dupes that were looking for someone to fix their self created financial problems. How about cancelling cable t.v. and not believing everything that t.v. tells you to. How about not buying into the idea that you deserve a new car and a house that you cannot afford and further drown yourself in debt so that you are a slave to your government unemployment, welfare and stimulus- Now they want to molest you and your kids at the airport- just getting you used to following orders and having NO rights. Its too bad our citizens are so greedy, stupid, lazy and drugged out that we have even less chance of getting our country back from the gang of thugs running things.
The economy is in the toilet, unemployment is hovering around ten percent, health care is a joke and terrorism on U.S. soil is a constant threat. So, please Mr. President, go on ridiculous TV shows instead of taking care of business...

I will no longer tune in to mythbusters again.

It seems when he's not on vacation he's making random tv appearances. How about you concentrate on doing your job instead of how much camera exposure you can get.

Nice to see the Obama not doing anything close to his job yet agean. Must have been tapes on a tv set on one of his many vacation locations, because you know he is never in DC. I think the mythbusters should solve the myth of Obama's birth certificate, or how he pulled of the scam to be pres so easly.

Jamie, you should have stayed A-political. My opinon of you just nosedived and I won't be watching this episode. Your attempt to show this failed president in a positive light is lost on me.

I've generally been a fan of the Mythbusters, but I may have to rethink it. They show a distinct lack of judgment in allowing a creature like the Obamanation on their show. Unless, that is, they are trying to bust the myth that he is a decent president, or a Christian, or not a liar, or not trying to destroy the security and infrastructure of this country. This is just another move by a suck-up president to try and regain the support he has deservedly lost (and never should have had to begin with). Big disappointment, Mythbusters.
