Albuquerque police say the two prostitution operations at local massage parlors that were shut down Monday may also be involved in human trafficking.

On Monday afternoon, detectives shut down the White Dragon massage parlor near Eubank and Menaul boulevards and the Healing Massage parlor at Coors and Sequoia roads.

Authorities said workers there were performing sex acts for money.

"It blends right in," said Albuquerque Police Department Cmdr. Doug West. "It's just a storefront that appears as a legitimate business."

Police said the Chinese women who were working there could have been flown from China to Albuquerque against their will and forced into prostitution.

"It's going to lead to an investigation that will take some time to figure out," West said.

For some, watching these businesses get shut down was a welcome sight.

"It's a relief now, to say the least," said Charles Bledsoe with Lighthouse Financial, a business just feet away from the White Dragon parlor.

Bledsoe said workers from the White Dragon had been soliciting their services in the strip mall.

"They would approach customers either before they would come in our office or after they left, and we made comments to the landlord about it as well," Bledsoe said.

He said he had a feeling something wasn't right at the supposed massage parlor, but didn't know exactly what their services entailed.

"It took us by surprise," Bledsoe said.

The scope of the investigation is taking law enforcement by surprise as well: Agents from the FBI and Immigration and Customs Enforcement are getting involved to determine if the businesses are part of a sex slave operation.

Two women have been arrested in connection with the case and are charged with prostitution. Police said more arrests are forthcoming.

Investigators also said the investigation could lead them to other massage parlors in the city that are doing the same thing.
