Nick Lachey on Marrying Vanessa Minnillo: 'Extremely Happy She's Mine'
While promoting the season 2 premiere of NBC's
a cappella vocal competition 'The Sing-Off,' series host
Nick Lachey, 37, opened up about his upcoming nuptials to fiancee Vanessa Minnillo, 30.
"I want it to be about her," the former boy band singer told
PEOPLE. "Any guy will tell you that it's probably more about the bride than the groom. It's just about celebrating your love for each other."
He added, "She's my soulmate in every way....She gets me, I get her....She's a great girl....incredibly intelligent, incredibly personable. She's independent, yet supportive. I'm extremely happy that she's mine."
One bonus in the relationship is the professional pointers he's gleaned during his current gig on 'The Sing-Off,' which also features celebrity judges Nicole Scherzinger, Ben Folds and Boyz II Men vocalist Shawn Stockman.
Lachey says Minnillo is "an incredible host – that's what she's done for years -- so I get a lot of advice from her."
The couple reportedly love visiting his extended family, including relatives in his hometown of Cincinnati and brother Drew's kids. Meanwhile, Lachey (who rose to fame as the handsome lead singer of boy band 98 Degrees before striking reality-TV gold starring with then-wife
Jessica Simpson on MTV's 'The Newlyweds') hints that starting his own family with Minnillo could make for a happy new year.
"I'm pushing 40 here, so the time is probably imminent," he says. "Everything happens in the right time and for now, it's good training to be an uncle."

I am so glad he found someone after the way he was dumped by Jessica Simpson I have always preferred his music and his personality over hers she was too needy and it just showed when she tried so hard to steal the spotlight by announcing her engagement as quickly as she did. Pathetic

I bet anything Jessica will make sure she gets married before Nick. It was no coicidence she announced her engagement right when he did. Her neediness is so noticeable-every guy she has dated since Nick-John Mayer-Tony Romo-all have been "the one". And didn't both John and Tony dump HER? She seems so desperate.
