19 Ways To Beat Chapped Lips
I combat dry lips in my house by applying Aquaphor, religiously. My children know not to even think about leaving the house without doing their daily hygiene rituals, one of which includes putting Aquaphor on their lips. And of course, chapped lips can happen at any time of day, so I make certain to have small tubes of Aquaphor in my car, in the kid's backpacks, in my purse, in my husband's briefcase etc.
I swear by Aquaphor but was very curious to see how others beat the beast of chapped lips. Chapped lips be darned! This winter we shall all vow to go chapless!
Check out 19 ways to cure chapped lips. And honestly, information like this should be a public beauty service announcement. Don't be stingy, make sure to share this list with your friends and family. Chapped lips are never, ever good.

"A constant sufferer from chapped lips, I have found the best cure for chapped lips is Sleep. Using chap stick always made my lips more dry than they were before, and was always very expensive. Sleep however, is free, harmless and can be found anywhere you can find a bed."
Wendy recommends: Kiehl's Lip Balm
"Kiehl's Lip Balm is the only way to go. It has healed and protected my cold-weather chapped lips. Apply before bed to restore moisture to your lips, and put it on before going out into cold weather to protect your lips."

J. recommends: Aloe Gator Lip Balm
"This stuff is great. The Aloe Vera extract in each tube keeps my lips moist while helping to heal any chapped skin plus, Aloe Gator goes on lightly and stays on for a long time without that "thick" feeling some lip balms have."

My dentist noticed my chapped lips and advised me to take a few seconds after brushing my teeth to thoroughly rinse every bit of toothpaste from my lips. New toothpaste formulas are quite strong and unless you rinse your lips thoroughly they will cause drying. It really helps break the 'lip balm addiction' many people struggle with.

One of the reasons most chapped lip balm makes your lips feel good for a while but then they are chapped again is because there is alcohol in almost all ointments made for soothing chapped lips. Alcohol is very drying to the skin and that is the reason your lips feel dry and chapped again. I read this in a earlier article on AOL and I checked my tube...sure enough alcohol was a main ingredient. One of the FEW that does not contain alcohol are Burts Bees products. I switched and wow...what a difference. I do not NEED to reapply it as often and it feels and tastes good.

I found that only two things have ever worked for me. Avon's flavor savers, and Palmer's cocoa butter swivel stick. I always got burned with the menthol in carmex and chapstick, so I had to find something that had no menthol, wasn't rough (beeswax), not sticky, and had a mild taste. I now use the Palmer's almost exclusively because the stick is huge and lasts for at least a month (with very frequent usage), and only costs about $2.50 each.

I LOVE Lip-Ivo lip balm, which has been around forever, but is getting hard to find in stores. It is similar in feel to ChapStick but less waxy and has a nice vanilla flavor/scent. Lasts a long time without reapplying.
replyAnyone know where I can find it now? I used to order it by the dozen from the supermarket pharmacy, but it's no longer on their supplier's list, though it still has a website.

Licking your lips causes chapped lips. As child, I would use my tongue to put my lips between my teeth just right so I could bite the dead skin off. I finally discovered it was the saliva from my tongue drying on my lips that caused my chapped lips to get worse and worse. If your tongue contacts your lips (especially in cold weather), dry the saliva off as soon as possible using the back of your hand, your sleeve or a tissue.
