Yet, during Thursday's CBS pregame show, "NFL Today" anchor James Brown unabashedly let loose a torrent of tears.
The show had just aired a moving, Emmy-award worthy feature on former Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chris Henry, who died last December when he fell from a moving vehicle in an accident near his hometown of Charlotte. The piece was narrated by Henry's mother, Carolyn Glaspy, who made the decision to donate Henry's organs to needy recipients. The story centered on a meeting of the four people who received Henry's organs and a subsequent meeting with Glaspy.
When the story ended, Brown was supposed to deliver what is known in the trade as a tag -- or an ending -- but he was overcome with emotion. Brown instead had to toss to analyst Boomer Esiason, who finished the tag, while fellow analyst Dan Marino consoled Brown. Brown had regained control when the show returned from commercial.

I was happy to see another man with tears like me
If you saw it and did not have a tear in your eye then you have no feeling....it was a great story....how appreciative those recipients are....a powerful story
anyone know where there's a clip of James Brown breaking down? the video was only the tribute part to Chris Henry
I wish we could see the whole thing with JB and Boomer, Boomer almost lost it himself.
It was pretty powerful.
I missed it too. I hope the video clip will be posted. The donation of organs to help others is a wonderful thing. My family knows that I am a registered organ donor, and I encourage others to make this decision. God bless and thank you to all who Give the "Gift of Life".
Very moving piece, I was on the edge and lost it when they came back, James Brown was sobbing and Boomer was talking and was on the edge himself.
A few years ago,Brown loss his college daughter in an automobile accident. She was riding with a friend. It was a sad time for Brown and his family and his fans.
The gift of an organ yo someone who needs it is the greatest gift one can give. I speak from personal experance on this. My dad had a heart transplant. The doctors told us that if had not gotten the heart when he did he would not have lived through the night. We were on a waiting list for more than 4 years waiting for a heart. I am listed on my drivers license as a total organ doner. It is easy to do. Just simply put a check mark on your drivers license when you get them renewed. Better yet just go grt a new license and have it put on then. By doing this you take the choice that the family would have to make. You make the choice for them. There are thousands of people waiting on organs right now. You have the honor of giving them a new chance at life.
As a former macho jock, it's really heart-warming to know there are still REAL MEN like the guys in this piece, James and Boomer, and the guys posting comments on this blog, who know that shedding a caring tear has nothing to do with one's ability to knock the helmet off the biggest guy on the other team.
gmaadness you are all over the internet with your ignorant posts, happy Thanksgiving to you now go back to your trailer and finish your can of pork n beans
Was very moving and nice to see these real men show real emotion.
yea me to
Yes, me too.
Real men do cry.
I am not afraid to admit that the piece also brought tears to my ears, how courageous for this mother to do such a selfless gesture. I was moved at how powerful this piece was and that we sometimes forget that these sport caster giants have emotions and feelings like the rest of us. Thank you CBS for airing this powerful and meaningful piece.
JB held it together better than I did!
Carolyn Glaspy is a beautiful human being.
Too bad his girlfriend wasn't charged for his death...
Lilyofthestupid....Do you know the meaning of the phrase..."it was an ACCDENT"? His girlfriend did nothing intentional to cause his death. I see people riding in the back of pickup trucks all the time...and nobody stops to think that they are at risk to have an accident, but guess what? All can be lost in the blink of an eye.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Henry family. Mrs.Glaspy...surely there is a place in Heaven for you and for those that decide to donate their loved one's organs.
This is the true meaning of Thanksgiving. It has often been said, "Let go and let God". Today I let go and will become an organ donor too.
EXCEPT THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT, THEY FORGOT TO MENTION ALL HIS DRUG PROBLEMS AND ALL THE OFF THE FIELD PROBLEMS , THAT HE WAS CUT FROM THE BENGALS , OH AND YEAH THAT HE DIDNT ACCIDENTLY FALL OFF THE TRUCK HE WAS TRYING TO ATTACK HIS GIRLFRIEND AND SHE WAS TRYING TO GET AWAY, LETS NOT MAKE A HERO OUT OF A CONVICTED FELON AND DRUG USER AND SPOUSE ABUSER
Most people already know of the problems that Chris Henry had in life and the circumstances surrounding his death. This was a story about a woman that loved her son, saw him dying, and chose to have her sons legacy be more than that of a troubled athlete. This was a story about a woman that overcame her grief and made her son's last act in this life an act of love, charity, and heroism . Keep your hate to yourselves, I wasnt a fan of Chris Henry but I am now, and I am a huge fan of his mothers.
