TCU and Boise State are undefeated and ranked higher than one-loss Ohio State in the BCS and AP Top 25. But if you ask E. Gordon Gee, Ohio State's president, even an undefeated season for those two schools wouldn't be enough to make them worthy of playing in the BCS Championship Game.
"Well, I don't know enough about the Xs and Os of college football," said Gee. "I do know, having been both a Southeastern Conference president and a Big Ten president, that it's like murderer's row every week for these schools. We do not play the Little Sisters of the Poor. We play very fine schools on any given day.
"So I think until a university runs through that gauntlet that there's some reason to believe that they not be the best teams to [be] in the big ballgame."
Gee may be in the minority, but he likes the current system in college football over a playoff, saying it's better for the student-athletes.
"It's not about this incessant drive to have a national championship because I think that's a slippery slope to professionalism," he said. "I'm a fan of the bowl system and I think that by and large it's worked very, very well."
Gee, formerly a president at West Virginia, Colorado, Brown and Vanderbilt universities, referred back to Ohio State's 2007 championship game appearance in defense of the current system.
"You know, it's a mystery," Gee said. "We were No. 1, then No. 11, then No. 7 and we ended up playing for the national championship. I think I kind of like that mixed-up mystery."

is he offering to schedule next year against both boise and tcu? if not, he needs to shut his trap. also, "Well, I don't know enough about the Xs and Os of college football" says it all. stick to schooling, stay out of what you don't know.
Hey fishhead! He is absolutely correct. BSU and TCU needs to put their big boy pants on! Instead of playing 0 or 1 big game a year, try playing it every week. Imagine if OSU told the rest of the Big Ten that Nevada was a BIG game for them, what a laugher! Imagine Alabama or Auburn or LSU playing the BSU schedule. That being said, TCU and BSU are good teams, but the OSU pinhead president put it perfectly. Let them "run the gauntlet" first. Anyone can get up for one game a year! In one of these two schools case, it could be for the national championship, and that would be just wrong!
Ohio State can't schedule TCU or Boise as both of their schedules are filled up with team such as San Jose State, Toledo, Idaho and La. Tech.
Or what if a Big 12 school played a team like Utah State.... Oh wait they did. The score was 31-24. Maybe you should pay real close attention to what Boise does to USU on Dec 4. I think it might be an eye opener for you.
Gee is 100% CORRECT!! boise st & tcu are a joke, "playing little sisters of the poor" Thats exactly the type of teams like BOISE STATE PLAYS: TOLEDO-IDAHO...Not only should they not play for the championship, they shouldn't be in any BCS Bowls...PERIOD! Let them play in a bowl game with the likes of teams in the WAC or Mountain West. Move a side so we can watch the real teams play in the BCS Bowl Games.
Basketballbuttgirl, stick to basketball, you know nothing about football.
Boise State vs. Ohio State would now be and interesting bowl game match up, but you know they will schedule another Boise vs. TCU bowl. Gee is not far from the truth.
Auburn and Oregon will most likely play in the Championship, and Stanford and Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl. Who would love to see Boise vs. Ohio State, and LSU vs. TCU Obvioulsly not E Gordon Gee Whiz. I think he sees it comming so he put the Sisters of the poor protest out there.
Boise can't be penalized for their schedule. They've done everything asked of them. If Ohio St. wants to be in the big game they shouldn't of lost. End of story.
what major university are you the president of? didn't think so...
Neither Boise State or TCU has played anyone to be CONSIDERED for a major title game. They may deserve a lesser bowl. Like the OUTBACK BOWL, COTTONBOWL, ETC.

He better stick to running the university. He didn't forget to mention he was at CU briefly- a noted football power. He has really seen some good football! It looks like he has hurt football programs.
Stick with academics, you need to.
Boise has attemtped to schedule some of the so called power schools for some years now, but these schools don't seem to have room on their schedules, hmmm wonder what they are afraid of. By the way, I am not a Boise fan other than I like to see a winner. It is the so called power schools that want to retain the current system, because they know that there are many years they would be knocked out of a playoff, just like a lot of basketball powers are bounced early in the NCAA playoffs. Yeh he likes the current system where his school gets big bucks just on reputation
Big schools are afraid to schedule a game vs Boise State or TCU because they are afraid to lose against a GOOD, small football team. Kudos to Va. Tech to play Boise State and show the nation they can hang with the big boys.
Yes, Ohio State's "tough" wins this season include Marashall, Ohio University and Eastern Michigan. This sort of arrogance is something college sports DON'T need.
Also includes Penn State, Iowa at Iowa, and Miami. The last four years OSU scheduled home and home against Texas and USC, non -conference.Forget the Buckeyes for a second, you dont honestly think TCU and Boise play a schedule comparable to the SEC??
And don't forget the perennial powerhouses in the Big10like Illinois, Indiana, Northwestern and Purdue. Alsogames against a not so great Penn St. and Michigan. Boise Statewould go undefeated against the likes of them.
there is no preseason in collage. it ok to play weak in state or close by teams early ,bsu and tcu have that line up of weak teams all year long.both would have 2 losts if they played the big ten or sec line up. lsu, abl.alb all had weak teams non conf games and a bye weeks late in the season.SORRY WE DONT DO THAT IN THE BIG TEN. WE PLAY OUT DOORS IN THE COLD AND RAIN ALL SEASON AND HAVE TO PLAY A BOWL GAME AWAY WHEN OTHER STAY CLOSE TO HOME( FLA. USC,LSU}O YEA WE TAKE CARE OF OUR KIDS SO THEY GET THERE DREGREE TOO
krs, you must [play flag football on the regular...
Even defenseless Michigan would run over BSU with ease. Purdue wouldn't look so hapless, Northwestern would get its mojo back, Indiana would have a decent practice squad & Illinois would finally win a game, ALL AGAINST BOISE STATE. That school with the blue field just happens to be the darling of some ranking member of the BCS, nothing more. Tell you what: stop talking out the side of your necks in Boise country & come play a Big Ten season just for a year. I guarantee your team will have seven losses or more. Hey, they MIGHT beat Toledo...LOL!
