A memorial has been unveiled in Japan commemorating the sacrifice of women forced to work as sex slaves during the World War II.

The memorial is in Okinawa and is thought to be the first of its kind on Japanese territory.

It is estimated that about 200,000 women from across the far east were forced to work as comfort women.
