Report: Infiniti hatching plans for Geneva concept
Everyone's getting in on the premium hatchback segment, from BMW and Audi to Lexus and Volvo. According to Autocar, the market will get another addition coming in from Japan, and the UK pub's sources say it'll be previewed in March at the Geneva Motor Show.
The long-anticipated compact Infiniti is tipped to potentially borrow its platform from the next-generation A-Class through Renault-Nissan's alliance with Mercedes-Benz. The Infiniti three-door promises a fresh take on the segment with the Geneva-bound concept car that is expected to closely preview the production version that could bow the following Fall in Frankfurt or Tokyo. Top tip, Frank!

Its either based of the MB A-Class/B-Class line up or the Nissan Sylphy/Bluebird like what was originally planned. If you remember, the rumors stated an entry level lineup with potentially a FWD car, but possibly AWD to make it more "Infiniti" like.
The Sylphy is Japan has a slight resemblence to the styling of past Infiniti's (Older G comes to mind) and is available with an AWD system. It does use the Global B platform Nissan has and has been praised for its interior space a la the way a prius has gerat amounts of interior volume.
I think Mercedes would feed of Nissan/Renault on Architecture in the smaller sized vehicles (read Mercedes A & B class cars) and Nissan/Renault will feed of older Mercedes platforms for its larger cars in the future (S-Class type) with shared joint work on its middle lineup (RWD type like G and M for Infiniti which would be Mercedes C and E class size cars.)

Edit: Unless they basically do a Skyline/G37 Hatch which would probably use the 370z wheelbase (shortest of the group) and G like styling.
As for the Hybrid/Plug-In Inifniti (Infiniti version based of the Nissan Leaf) I think that fits in well with the Sylphy platform concept as its the same B Platform Nissan uses in both the Leaf and Sylphy.

I'm hoping for use of the Sylphy/Bluebird platform. The A/B class Mercedes are awful in their design. I'm no designer but the Sylphy definitely looks like it would be easier to design into a proper looking Infinity.

@CarCrazed4Life - A G37 hatch already exists. It's called the EX35 :-)
As a fanboi and G37S 6MT owner, I'm looking forward to seeing this.

@ Alex: next gen A-Class rendering... it won't be that bad looking anymore.

Just rolled 296,000 miles on my '04 fx. No engine or transmission work other that routine maintenance. What they're selling, I'm buying!
