7 hours ago: We don't have replacements for the remaining 8 servers yet, but this is a work in progress. 4 will be replaced by the 2 newly ordered ones.
7 hours ago: One of the servers with the poorly performing host will expire on the 23rd, so I'm currently working on decommissioning it.
- The automated connection limiter now defaults to calculate the limit in a different way whenever max speed is set, which should prevent very fast clients from running into the limit during the period right after a restart.
- The client's uptime and various stats now start counting from when it finishes starting up, instead of from when the program is launched.
- The average speed counters are now less jumpy right after startup.
- Increased the retry counter for failing H@H image downloads from 10 to 100.
- Added better file buffering for image file reads.
- Removed the startup argument --skip-live-hash, as files are now always read through a buffered stream.
- Added the startup argument --disable-logging, which turns off the standard output log file.
- Calculating the stats for the file list during startup should now be much, much faster for large caches (100,000+ files).
- Added a workaround for a limitation in Java that caused file distibution to fail if the /tmp and/or the /cache directory were symlinked elsewhere in a way that caused them to end up on different file systems.
- The unmaintained "import" functionality was removed.
- Added the experimental argument --use-more-memory, intended for very fast clients, which applies the following optimizations:
-- Activates a new mechanism in the cache handler for reducing the disk I/O overhead related to tracking file usage statistics. Over time, this reduces housekeeping I/O by 75-80% on high traffic clients.
-- Increases the buffer size for generating the file list during startup from 1000 to 25000, which will help clients with a very large cache start up faster.
-- Increases the buffer size for reading image files from 8K to 64K.
Note that depending on your RAM size and OS, unless you explicitly set a larger heap size for the Java process, this setting could potentially make the Java VM run out of RAM. To set a larger heap size, you have to start the client from the command line like this:
- Galleries now use a new technique for thumbnails when the gallery page is set to two rows/medium thumbnails (the default setting), meaning it applies for all unregistered visitors.
This will reduce both the load and the bandwidth requirements for loading these thumbnails.
While they will load faster, the quality of these thumbnails is necessarily somewhat lower than for the standard ones. Then again, you don't have to do anything but register to get those back.
For now, this only applies to the first page of thumbnails, and only if the gallery is posted/public/non-expunged. Depending on the results, it could be extended.
- The redundant "default" options were removed from the thumbnail settings.
Misc
- Made some more minor tweaks to the bounty page. The updated date is now only displayed if it's different from the posted date, and the readout for current funds was re-added.
- Added a missing name caching statement that could make the Hath Exchange display blank names for people who never posted a gallery or added a bounty.
- Fixed a buggy disk space limit check when modifying H@H schedules.
- Added a link to the HentaiVerse from the navbar.
- Fixed some potential mis-linking in bounty messages.
- A mechanism has been added to gallery comment boxes that allows you to click them to make them larger. For obvious reasons, this only works on comment boxes with comments long enough to be scrollable. (Like this one.)
- Bounties have been split between Standard Bounties and Translation Bounties, with a separate toplist for each. Translation forum posts will also go to the new Translation Bounties subforum. -- Note that since translations were the primary reason for splitting out a dedicated Bounty forum, standard bounties will be merged back with normal requests on the forums. -- You will have to repost your bounty to the forums to get it correctly placed.
- Added some visual fixes on the Bounty Overview screen.
- The values used to sort the Bounty Toplists have been updated to better reflect current valuation. It's now set to 60,000 GP = 3000 Credits = 1 Hath.
Note: Existing bounties were haphazardly sorted into the two categories by simple keyword matching. To change a bounty's category, either remake it, or just list the misplaced bounties here and I'll move them.
Misc
- Fixed some buggy logic in the can-I-recategorize-this-gallery checks in the manager.
- The Archiver has been fitted with an additional overload protection. It will now delay archive processing if there are more than three archives being processed at the same time.
- The search page will no longer claim that you're searching for a tag when you're actually searching for an uploader.
- The H@H information page will now also display the version of all the clients you are running.
- If a gallery is large enough to have pagianted thumbnails on your current settings, the "Back" button on its image pages will now take you to the thumbnail page that corresponds to the image you were viewing.
- Some common misspellings of g.e-hentai are now automatically corrected.
- Corrected an oversight in the search caching mechanism where search warnings (if any) were not preserved for a cached result.
- The error message when searching for a fragments that are too common in tags should now be clearer. -- The word "girl" was added to this list. -- Turning off tag searching will now allow you to search these words.
- Fixed a bug introduced with 0.17 that made the comment system discard line breaks when you went back to edit old comments.
- The Hentai@Home page will now bump you to the login box if you're not logged in, instead of erroring out with "failed login redirect".
- The system should now automatically reinitialize your Hath Perks on the first authenticated pageload (e.g., gallery page) if you happen to clear or otherwise lose your cookies.
- A new setting has been added to the My Settings screen that allows you to restrict the maximum viewing size of images.
As part of these changes, a new forum called the Cove of Translators has also been created. The primary purpose of this forum is to have a place where translation groups can post for feedback on their works, but you can also post about translation work in general. It also splits translation requests between two separate sub forums; one is to be used for requests that are backed by a bounty, while the other is for requests that are not.
Tag flagging has been modified in the following ways:
- Tag Flagging III no longer increases the number of tags per flag. Instead, it unlocks a second set of good/bad flags.
- Tag Flagging IV has been added, which adds a third set of good/bad flags.
- Hovering over the tag flag will now display all tags that were matched during the tag flagging - this includes those assigned to other flags, that were overridden.
- The priority for flags is now as follows: -- Any "bad" tag will override any "good" tag -- Each level of flag will override all levels after it. So the Blue "good flag" will override both the Green and Purple "good flag", while the Green will override the Purple.
Favorites
- The window that pops up for favorites, expunges and renames has been made somewhat larger. There should also be enough spare room to zoom in one step (in Firefox anyway) without losing anything.
- The number of favorite categories has been increased to 10. The length limit for the favorite category name was increased to 30.
- The favorite counter on the gallery screen will now update correctly whenever you favorite/unfavorite something.
Layout Tweaks
- The "New" icon has been moved to make stuff line up better, which also stops the icon from being hidden for particularly long names.
- Long gallery names should no longer bump the rating/tagflag icons to a second row on the front/search page when running in 1280x or higher.
- Vertical sizing of the thumbnails on the gallery page has been improved.
- Fixed some overflow glitching on the popular pane.
- Fixed a layout problem on the front page for unregistered visitors.
Changes for private galleries and deletions
- The rules for when a gallery can be deleted have changed. The deletion limit has been removed, but you can no longer delete galleries that are published and older than three days (same as for making it private), unless the gallery has been expunged or is private. There are several reasons for this: -- 1. to avoid having people recycle galleries to get past the misc limit. If they do, it will now be publicly traceable through the "parent gallery" stat. -- 2. to prevent "slow rage quits", as there now has to be consent that a gallery should be deleted. -- 3. to reduce the "members to PM before remove" drama, as this is no longer a possible way to remove older galleries - albeit, you can still do this for newly added galleries.
Note that this change is experimental. If there are unforeseen consequences, it might be revised. Feedback is grudgingly accepted.
- To combat certain forms of abuse that's been taking place recently, there are now some requirements to make a private gallery. Unless you meet one of the following conditions, all future galleries have to be assigned to a public category. You must either: -- have a Bronze star or higher, or -- have at least 100 posts on the forums, outside of FSZ/Spamhaus/Test
This does not affect existing galleries, unless you modify them.
Misc
- Fixed a bug where allowed short tags (well, "3d") could not be used to exclude results.
- Optimized the method by which the popular pane is generated and cached.
- The maximum allowed resolution was increased to 20,000 x 20,000. But why anyone would bother scanning something that high is beyond me. You'd need to stack up 200 1080p HDTVs, 10 wide and 20 high, just to see it at 100%.
- The voting correlation detection for the review system which prevents people from excessively singling out reviews from specific members was made slightly less sensitive for the situation where there weren't actually that many votes for the reviewer in question.
- Fixed a bug where the first authenticated pageload could fail for newly registered members if the page was somehow loaded twice in quick succession.
- Tags can now be added to galleries that have been deleted.
- Whenever a gallery has been fully expunged, the expunge link on the gallery screen will now be titled "Show Expunge Log", and drops you directly to the log.
- You can now click "Expunged" directly from the manager to pop up the gallery's expunge log.
- The anti-abuse mechanism on the Archiver should now play nicer with proxies and anonymous networks like Tor.
- The Archiver now supports multi-threaded downloading of a single archive. Instead, a limit of four concurrent downloads (threads) per user is now enforced.
- You can now change your rating of a gallery.
- Added a check to avoid idiots spam-reporting a gallery.
- The system now supports having periods during the day where the "discount" for archiver costs/image limits is negative. This is now used to set +25% normal cost from 14:00 to 17:59 UTC. -- The period between 20:00 UTC and 06:59 UTC is now -25% cost instead of normal cost.
- Bounty accepts now expire, and are removed after 30 days.
- Fixed a bug where completed bounties could sometimes enter an invalid state and become invisible.
- The bounty screen now shows the correct values for minimum additional rewards.
- It should no longer be possible to get a "Tip of the Day" while you're in a popup.
The EH Translations team needs help! For long, we've been a disorganized bunch, putting out uncoordinated releases now and then with no real coherency. Well, that's about to change, but we need your help to do it!
As part of this organizational effort, we're going to need a mascot, a unifying brand, so to speak, for our releases. While we may be awesome at editing manga, translating awkward dialogue and procrastinating, we don't know the first thing about character design, much less drawing those designs. This is where you come in!
Your task is to design and draw a mascot for EHT. We like variation, so we would like each submission to contain your mascot in at least three different poses. The mascot also needs to be your original creation; submissions obviously based on/plagiarized from existing characters are not allowed. Finally, all submissions must be in PNG format, to avoid compression artifacts.
Aside from these three rules, you are free to submit whatever you want. Keep in mind though, that this mascot would be used in a logo-ish capacity on our future releases. As such, simple, chibi-ish creations would probably stand a better chance than highly detailed creations. We will not, however, reject any submissions for being "too detailed" or "not simplistic enough" or anything like that; if you have a great idea, go for it!
Since this contest is about creating a character, not just drawing a pretty picture, you're quite welcome to flesh out your submission with a name for your character, a backstory and other misc. information. That said, our primary focus is of course on design and visuals, so don't sweat it if you don't feel like coming up with a story. Also note that you're not limited to one submission. If you have several good ideas, then by all means, submit all of them!
Submission format; each submission should come in the form of a post to this thread. Submission posts should follow this template: Please note that it's quite important to ensure that the "Submission" at the top of your post is in bold type, as that will make it easier for us to skim the thread and immediately distinguish the submissions. Also note that name, bio, extra material and motivation are not mandatory, and may be omitted if you wish.
The winner will receive a grand prize of 100,000 credits and 100 Hath, and is chosen by the EHT team. (S)he will also receive the honor of having his/her submission featured on our releases. There are no formal criteria or metrics to measure your submission against; we will simply choose the submission that we like best (or nothing, in the case that we don't find any submissions acceptable). That said, we like some things more than other.
Things we like: * vector-based images, so they can effortlessly be made to fit any release; * variety - three poses is the bottom limit, more is better; * creativity and originality - if your submission is cliched, it had better make up for it by being extremely well done or in some other way.
Deadline All submissions must be posted no later than 00:00 GMT, Friday, August 20th.
Usage details By participating in this contest, you agree to irrevocably allow any and all redistribution and modification of your submission by anyone, for any purpose, without reservation, effectively placing your submission in the public domain under U.S. copyright law. The reason for this rights grant is to ensure that we will actually be able to use your submission for our releases.
