8 Stars Fleeing From Cancelled Shows: We Suggest New Gigs

Recent TV cancellations have left some actors -- up-and-comers and established stars -- stranded. But there's no reason why these actors should be out of work.

Primetime shows just need to follow the lead of the still-breathing soap operas, whose casting directors are picking up actors from canceled shows (Maura West moved from 'As the World Turns' to 'The Young and the Restless'; Kim Zimmer jumped on 'One Life to Live' from 'Guiding Light,' etc.)

So let's take our favorite actors from primetime shows we've lost and plug them into current hits.

Maura Tierney. Despite TV Squad's best efforts, 'The Whole Truth', starring Tierney, was canceled last month. Let's get Tierney back on the air and pronto! For the 'Charlie's Angels' 2011 reboot, who says Charlie has to be a guy? The smoky-voiced Tierney would be perfect sending the Angels out on their adventures.

Eric Stoltz. Pale and soft-spoken, fate has not been kind to Stoltz recently. First, the premiere of the 'Back to the Future' 25th anniversary DVD revealed long-lost footage of Stoltz as Marty McFly (he was dismissed in favor of Michael J. Fox weeks into the shoot). That was followed by the sudden termination of his 'Battlestar Galactica' prequel 'Caprica.' Well, we have just the place for an actor in shock – the post-apocalypse Bible Belt. A dazed Stoltz would work wonderfully on AMC's 'The Walking Dead.' Watch 'False Labor,' the last-aired episode of 'Caprica', below.

Jimmy Smits. The enduring TV star was cast out by NBC when 'Outlaw' was canceled last month. We suggest he team with Elizabeth Mitchell's Erica in containing the intergalactic reptiles on 'V.' The Resistance could use Bail Organa's experience in space diplomacy. A bit of trivia -- a co-executive producer of 'Outlaw' was another ex-NBC employee, Conan O'Brien.

Rhona Mitra. A co-star of 'The Gates', ABC's brief attempt at the supernatural, Mitra has consistently been cast as mysterious and sultry. But her resume includes Sacha Baron Cohen's outrageous Ali G movie. Over the top might finally put Mitra over: how about a quintessential 'She's Out of My League' girlfriend for Zach Galifianakis on 'Bored to Death'?

Hayley Hasselhoff. OK 'Huge' being canceled makes us hopping mad. Moving on, the talented Haselhoff's curvy beauty and silent movie star face would fit right in on 'Boardwalk Empire'.

Jamie KingJamie King: The 'My Generation' star and former runway model is looking for the same small-screen luck that has graced Heidi Klum and Tyra Banks. But King doesn't have to go reality. Wouldn't Serena's storyline on 'Gossip Girl' benefit from a long-lost older sister?

Linus roacheLinus Roache. Not known for comedy (films like 'Priest' and 'Wings of the Dove' were NOT laugh riots), we'd still like to see the 'Law & Order' star bouncing back as another "How Can This Go Wrong?" boyfriend for Liz Lemon on '30 Rock'

Jon Voight. Not that anyone has to worry if the Oscar-winning patriarch of the hyped-but ratings -hampered 'Lone Star' will work again, but we'd love to see his scary glower somewhere on 'Raising Hope' (as if that family doesn't have enough problems). Here's a glimpse of Voight's work on 'Lone Star'.
