Newton was arrested for the theft of a laptop from a Florida student's dorm room in November 2008. The website reported late Monday night that Newton again violated the university's honor code by putting his name on another student's paper and turning it in.
Newton then turned in a second paper to the instructor, but it was later found to have been purchased off the Internet.
His father, Cecil Newton Sr., declined comment to Foxsports.com.
"I wasn't there," the elder Newton said. "I cannot confirm or deny. At a time like this, I'm taking a defensive posture."
The NCAA is reviewing the recruitment of Newton.

This is nothing more but yet another example of why the NFL should have regional TRADE SCHOOLS, EVERYONE IS NOT CUT OUT FOR COLLEGE, ACADEMICALLY SPEAKING. There are many other individuals who are also gifted athletically but won't be able to thrive in a college environment. But if the NFL HAD REGIONAL TRADE SCHOOLS, THESE VERY SAME COLLEGES WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO PIMP THESE SAME ATHLETES. If these individuals were attending a trade school while waiting to get into professional athletics, maybe more of them would have something to fall back on when their playing days are over or when they realize that they won't get in professional sports.
Don't think that the Universities are throwing anything hard at these athelets. Greg Odens favorite class was History of Rock and Roll.
Listen, the obvious huge market of purchased term papers hardly makes him the first or last to attempt this. If, while on a scholarship, he chooses to cheat himself of an education, he'll eventually learn his lesson. This RIDICULOUS notion that, because he may win an award in athletics, he is somehow exempt from the mistakes that you, me, and everyone else encounters as a young adult is immature and foolhardy. We learn from our miscues in life, become better people for having made them, and ultimately try to teach the next idiot, like ourselves, that there are better choices in life. Ones that make us richer, more sound human beings. Now, instead of holding him up to an unrealistic standard, understand he is just like you were, and teach him the better way.
To matt1, young Mr. Newton isn't "just like you were" meaning like I was or like any other student was,(I too was a scholarshiped college athlete)the little street thug is a thief and a cheat and holds no moral line on making his own way. The reason that punks like this bozo get to go on and make millions is because people, apologists and backbone challanged idiots like you make excuses for them every step of the way. If you hold yourself to low standards you tend to lower them for all, what a great way to promote the betterment of students, athletes and young people in general. NOT.
mattl 1,,,,,,,,your an idiot and your the type of person this clown hopes is alive and breathing everywhere. Your EXACTLY the problem today. Let's give little Cammy seven chances to get his chit together and then he will be a good little boy and grow up and some day become a man. Your truly an idiot. Cam Newton is the perfect example of society taking a backseat to INTEGRITY.
The NCAA and all of the major universities are the biggest HYPOCRITES!! They are nothing more than professional franchises making billions of dollars for profit, on the backs of young men. They recruit and coddle them for almost nothing (college education...give me a brake!) then toss them aside when they have no more use for them. The NCAA is a "fraud and a cheat"...now Cam Newton is being attacked by the media and Auburn haters. To slander him as a "thief, cheat and immoral" is ignorant and unsubstantiated. The NCAA and these big time university programs are slimy and sleazy, they lack any sense of "INTEGRITY". College football and basketball are just BIG BUSINESS. Cam Newton has every right to pursue and use his god given athletic ability, to reap the benefits of his talent for profit....I mean isn't that what the american dream is all about? Don't make Cam Newton the bad guy hear...the true culprits are the ones and the system that exploit these young men for profit.
Ok, Mike and vtman. So your solution to everyone that exhibits immaturity and poor decision making in their formative years is to tell them they are worthless and write them off as lost causes? I would much rather believe that he will someday acknowledge his mistakes and become a functional member of society. Sure, it makes me angry as hell that he squandered opportunities that I could have only dreamt of having. To just condemn him and believe that he will always be a spoiled brat that contributes to the ills of society, is counterproductive. To teach him the much more correct path would breed a man that I would much rather be neighbors with.
As an ex college athlete, on scholarship, who did not turn pro, I guarantee you that Cam Newton was given EVERY opportunity to succeed, but chose to take the easy way out time and again. These college players, especially from the HUGE football schools have Everything they will ever need, but don't know how to take advantage of it, as they have been coddled since middle school. So please, don't feel soory for Cam. He will soon be making millions, and the schools he went to will pay the price.
And you had a great education, but can't spell sorry. Yea
and then there is guys like CARDMASTER2327, who sit around all day looking for what appeared to me as being a typographical error and not a spelling error. CARDMASTER you are all over the internet and frankly, I am tired of seeing you. Take your spelling correction attitude and go get some help.
Cardmaster... shouldn't the "Yea" have a puncutation mark after it.. like a period or something..... idiot. Where did you get your education? LMAO
Foxsports, Thayer Evans, Cites the SOURCE for the sharges. Either give the the name of the SOURCE, or get a real job flipping burgers. Nothing but politics at play in college football, Money rules the day on a lot of levels. Gotta keep those trophies for the money makers like Team Nike, or the Machine at Bama, or any other corrupt entity trying to sell licensed product. You can cite me as the source for this story!
I guess you are too good at reporting, the reporter doesn't have to give out his SOURCE at all. I heard one athelet who was a 5th year senior had one class, it was ball room dancing. Alot of these athelets don't know how to take care of their money. When their career is over with the NFL, they have nothing to show for it. You have to learn to take care of the money you make in the NFL.
There is no surprise here. The whole college athletic system is this country is corrupt as is the banking system. Just listen to a college athlete try to talk to a reporter or be interviewed by a TV analyst. Command of the English language is non existent. If college athletics was not turning a deaf ear to the problem, there would be no college athletics.
Many of the college athletes don't have the brain power of a 5th grader, yet they are pushed along with the crowd. After they finish their athletic careers they either go broke or wind up homeless in some alley way. They can't get a job because they can't read or think or add one and one to get two. And the boosters keep plying them with goodies and don't require them to learn so they can be self sufficient and productive when their college football days are over. Only a few survive and that number is too few.
np he is from the SEC
It is starting to look like Cam Newton is just another street thug.
Street thugs tend not to attend college. So far this kid has not been convicted or charged with anything concrete. When you are on the top jealous and envious people attempt to bring you down. Let the investigation be completed prior to labeling someone.
Street thugs also don't volunteer to work with elementary school boys that have behavior and academic problems. He does this on his own time and the kids and teachers love him.
What about the actual students trying to get an education? They have to put up with these punks who have no business being in college in the first place.
The media are as dishonest as Cam Newton.
