Kenyan Edna Kiplagat won the women's title -- her first major marathon championship -- ahead of American Shalane Flanagan, who was making her marathon debut.
Gebremariam covered the 26.2 miles in 2 hour, 8 minutes and 14 seconds. He became the fourth man -- and first in 19 years -- to win his debut on the streets of New York.
Kiplagat finished in 2:28:20 after she pulled away two miles from the finish line. Flanagan finished 20 seconds behind to become the first American to finish in the top two in 20 years.

Big surprise there! Like Jerry Seinfeld said about marathons , "a marathon is a guy from Keny & 5.000 losers"
No, Ethiopia and 40000 losers:)
Congrats to all the runners. seinfeld who, oh the guy on the Kramer show. Ha
They should bo not allowed to run. The africans always win. This an American marathon and americans should only be able to win the contest. Let the africans run only in african marathons!
WOW, The Obama family won something else in America. Did anyone check their VISA's.
Congrats to Gebre who won the marathon! In any game, in any race, there is only ONE winner. Why highlight a runner who came in 20 minutes afterwards just because she's a female? That's so stupid!!
Wahhh...don't get your tightie whities all in a bunch over that.
My money was on Jared from Subway Subs.
