Takashi Murakami is auctioning off several pieces in Sotheby’s spring auctions. This manga style life-size sculpture titled “My Lonesome Cowboy” was estimated to be sold between $3-4 million, but the winning bit was $13.5 million!! $13,500,000. With the Premium (11.0% of the bid) of $1.6 million added to the bid, “My Lonesome Cowboy” was sold for $15,161,000.

If you got some million dollars in your pocket, go to the auction site and make a bid for his arts.

My Lonesome Cowboy, bleh this guy is a proffessional artist, doing commercial work. Only
the fact, like myself who is a graphic designer, knows that Advertisment with art is needed.

However unlike the USA, art is respected there in Japanese land. He is only using that fact to make ends meat. In general, I think of him as what Comic book artists do 24/7 but on High cultural sense. Nothing new.

Think about how Doremon is used in flash advertisments. However his works are without history. Asides the history they are built on.

Well, I liked the art piece. It’s very creative, no matter what other people say. It’s amazing, as a matter of fact, that NOBODY (as I know) ever thought about building a manga/hentai full-scale figure before!

He’s not a classic artist – yet. Let’s wait until 22nd century (kkkkkk) and see it.
