The Colts have a bye in Week 7, so they will be without their punter for Week 8, when Indianapolis hosts Houston on "Monday Night Football" on Nov. 1.
"After verifying the relevant facts, we today have suspended Pat McAfee for one game for conduct detrimental to the club," Colts president Bill Polian said in a statement. "The suspension will take effect on Monday, October 25, and will run through the Houston game on Monday, November 1. We will have no further comment at this time."
McAfee, 23, a second-year veteran from West Virginia, was released by authorities shortly before noon on Wednesday. He had been arrested with a blood-alcohol content of .15 percent.
Colts coach Jim Caldwell said earlier in the day the team was "very disappointed in what happened," adding that addressing alcohol-related issues "is something we do constantly."
"We talk about it and talk about it often," Caldwell said. "Obviously, one time is too many and obviously we've had a few more than we would like. ... Here is what I have to say: 'I talk about it more often than bye weeks, but that is not the issue.' It is not necessarily what I've done because evidently what we've been doing, what I've been doing, is not enough.
"So, the fact of the matter is we just have to get it straightened out, because we have much higher standards than that here."

JUST ANOTHER CLOWN
He went to West Virginia for God's sake!
@mrtwister thats what i said!!!
Didn't Manning go bonkers on a drunken kicker a few years ago?
I'VE SWAM IN THAT CANAL AND I CAN;I SWIM OR KICK
I can't swim or kick, but I've been in that canal. yep a game suspension
sounds right. he's lucky he's not sick (E-Coli)
can't nobody take a good joke anymore?
I'm just glad my days are almost done, because in another few years, you won't be able to do a damn thing. I realize getting drunk and swimming in the canal is not permitted, but give me a break they make it sound as if he robbed a bank and ran over a few people as he was leaving the scene! The writer of the article claims .15 is twice the legal limit, but I thought that was while driving? I guarantee you if they came to my house on a given weekend and gave me a test to determine how much alcohol I've consumed, the needle would go off the chart. Now is that also not legal? The guy should have shown a little discretion but slow down, it's not the end of the world and he didn't cause as much of a stir as the gentleman did that got locked out of his house and the President of the United States had to have a peace meeting with him and the police.
Good one Patrick. He probably did worse in the four years he spent at WVU.
I am not in favor of a suspension and loss of wages .A slap on the wrist and a lecture would not have gotten his attention though. He is young with the whole world ahead of him. This might be the best for this young man. I wish him the best of luck and hope he's stays focused .The chance to play in the NFL with a Super Bowl team the caliber of the Colts is to die for. Pat ,grow up and enjoy this time.Unemployed kickers are getting to be a dime a dozen.
The Colts have a zero tolerance policy..you do something to make the team look bad you get suspended!! The Colts aren't the Jets!!
This is to Cardmaster2327, who's the jerk now. The Colts suspended their kicker for one game, for public intoxication. I know what you are saying when guys like us do the thing he did. He should know better, it went on the internet and tv. NFL players are held to a higher standard. I hope he learns some thing from this. Because if it happens again, he might be out of a job.
I am sick of hearing you represent the NFL and your Team, you are expected to conduct yourself at a higher level! The guy is 23 years old and barely our of college. Here is a kid who was letting his hair down and gets arrested for it. The only reason we did not swim in the Canal 30 years ago when we were his age is because there was too much garbage and moss in the water to even jump in it! Had he just taken a Taxi home after leaving the bar it would not have made news. Give the kid a break because he committed no crime nor did he hurt anyone.
BAC 1.5 in illegal. Are you suggesting other wise? For once the drunk was stopped "before" someone else was hurt.
Come on Patrick you better than that and for all you that don't know patrick he was one of the best NCAA Football kickers around during his 4 years with WVU you tell me who can kick a 58yd FG at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, PA probably not alot of kickers if any they have on e of the best in the league everybody makes mistakes sadly it involves alcohol but shoot least he had sense not to drive.
AN IRISHMAN ARRESTED FOR PUBLEC INTOXICATION....WHAT A SHOCK
Why suspend him a game and make the team suffer. Suspend him a games pay and make him play
It is pretty sad when you have to blame someones stupidity on where they went to college. As a proud graduate of West Virginia University it drives me crazy when comments like the above are made. I guess the 25 Rhodes scholars that have gone to WVU are stupid also or all of the people who have gone on to become great doctors, teachers, lawyers, engineers, nurses and so on. I agree that what Mcafee did was stupid but don't go placing the blame on WVU. I wear my blue and gold with pride and am beyond proud to say that I am a Mountaineer!
Aglew--What gives you the right to insult peoples heritage? You have always defended black Americans. How do you like it when someone insults them? I can answer that ----YOU DO NOT!!!!!!!!. Practice what you preach!!
Big deal, he tipped a few too many, he wasn't driving, or disorderly, or doing anything illegal for that matter. Pretty tame stuff by today's standards.
