UFC middleweight Chris Leben was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant, according to a report from Hawaii News Now.
Leben, 30, was allegedly driving on the H1 Freeway in Honolulu when he lost control of his pickup truck and crashed into a wall. According to the report, he was allegedly driving without a license or insurance.
A talented yet sometimes troubled fighter, Leben was previously arrested on another DUI charge in his home state of Washington, an issue that cost him a chance to compete in a scheduled match in June 2008.
Leben served jail time for that offense and the UFC later rescheduled his bout with Michael Bisping. Leben went on to lose the match in a unanimous decision at UFC 89 but tested positive for steroids in a post-fight test and was suspended for nine months.
Professionally, Leben had been in the midst of a strong stretch in the UFC, winning three straight fights, most recently defeating Yoshihiro Akiyama by triangle choke at July's UFC 116.
Leben had been expected to face Brian Stann at UFC 125 on January 1, but there is no indication of whether his arrest will impact the scheduled bout.
He is scheduled to appear at Honolulu district court on Nov. 22.

This sucks if its true. Leben is the man. I was super impressed with his ufc 116 showing and it'd be a shame if something like this were to set him back.
what a moron...the most preventable thing bahha
THIS WHOLE MMA "THING" NEEDS TO BE STOPPED. THE ONLY PERSON GETTING RICH, IS THIS DAN WHITE GUY. HE IS A USER OF HUMAN FLESH. A BAD SEED.
shut up, douche. Monsoons should be stopped. They kill people.
Oooooo....SOMEONE LIKES TO TYPE IN CAPS TO REALLY DRIVE THEIR POINT HOME... But really, out of all of the 'bad seeds' in the world, you are concerned about Dana White? Try some perspective. It's good for you.
who the hell is "Dan" White?
i love the sport, but sooner or later someone will get killed and no one will want the blame - 2 idiots already have said they want to be the first ones to kill someone in the octagon, mir and cerrone! they should be banned!!
Seriously... Some people around here are either seriously lacking in brain synapses or are painfully bored. Injury and the occasional death are a part of every day life, including sports; as many golfers and lugers have died in the last year as MMA fighters. Again I say, try some perspective.
People die everyday for spectacle.Worse, people just kind of die eventually and most die without dignity or honor. So....what is your point other than to attack a sport that has 1. Fans who like to watch 2. Fighters that like to fight?
Lastly, Boxing faced 2 deaths this year alone. The UFC has not had anyone ever die in it and the day it does happen, it wont change anything. Except of course, give you fuel to come onto blogs and say "i told you so". Im sure critics are just waiting for something bad to say about MMA in connection to a death. A death could happen 50 years from now and some righteous group completely ignorant to human spirit will be their to tell us just how wrong we were to allow mixed martial arts. Take boxing and martial arts out of the Olympics while your at it.
I couldn't agree more...
"operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant"
The only thing Leban is under the influence of is a huge amount of awesome.
God this better not screw up the fight with Stann. I was looking forward to those two swing away at each other for 15 minutes.
Monsoon don't be stupid! Its Dana......don't you just love how all the idiots come and post stuff on here that don't know anything about mma......
Thats what Haters do. They comment & complain about somethin at face value and don't really know anythin about it. These are the same people who will say MMA is human cockfighting but will support torture, get a grip. Holla at me next time someone dies in football or boxing.
football will off. be a pussey sport by next season anyway, buncha meatheads that wont even get hit hard (with pads)!! lmfao...football = joke
Football isn't a joke nor is MMA. It's the people running the NFL that's a joke.
I don't think football is a joke either, but then again I don't think that the people running it are a joke. Football, more than any other sport, is a TV sport now. They have to protect their players and in turn protect what is seen on TV. Many people are generally turned off by some of the vicious hits you see now, I know many people were outraged by James Harrison's hits against the Browns. You can say its a part of the game all you want, but death isn't and that's what this is going to lead to.
I agree with most of you, MMA isn't any worse than any of the other combat sports out there, the only difference is that MMA is still so new that we don't really know any of the long term effects. It's easy to say that MMA is "safer" than boxing for all the reasons that are stated, no standing 8 counts, shorter fights in some instances, quicker stoppages, but there is no way around the fact that getting punched in the face isn't safe or getting choked unconcious isn't harmful to their bodies. Ultimatly, though, just like in boxing and other sports, these men are making a decision to be a fighter and people want to see it. I love MMA, I love watching fights, I don't want to see anyone die, either. Those are just things we have to reconcile some how.
As for Leben, second time this has happened, plus a positive steroid test, its a good thing his boss doesn't like to punish his fighters any more than the commisions will.
Leben is no mere man! No SIR!!This guy is the"Fighting HOBO" of MMA.Cann't wait to hear how much time Leben will spent in jail with his new mate,Cornbread!
