McAfee was reportedly taking a swim in a canal in a nightlife district when police took him in at 5 a.m. According to police, McAfee had a blood alcohol content of 0.15, almost twice the legal limit of 0.08.
Police were initially called when a driver at a red light reported that a shirtless man had approached her car, and the woman feared he would try to get in the car.
When officers asked McAfee if he had been swimming in the canal, he said, "I'm not sure," and claimed he was wet because it was raining, although there was no rain at the time. Eventually, when asked how much he had to drink, McAfee answered, "A lot, cause I'm drunk."
Police said they took him in more for his safety, given the low temperature, as McAfee was cooperative and volunteered to walk home.
Colts president Bill Polian commented on the arrest.
"We are in the process of gathering the relevant facts," Polian said. "When that task is complete, we will deal immediately with the issue of club discipline. Until we complete that process, we will have no further comment."
McAfee, 23, is in his second year out of West Virginia.
UPDATE: McAfee was arraigned and charged with one count of public intoxication, a misdemeanor. He was released without bail and is due back in court Friday.

" And the more it happens the more fans are going to look away, to watch and enjoy games for what they are and not to care what kind of human beings wear the uniforms for which we cheer "
Dan Graziano
Just another NFL drunk who can't handle his booze. At least he had the brains to walk home...hmm, but then again he's a punter. Not to often he gets his brains whacked around. Where you swimming? I'am not sure...wait wait, yes, in a sea of alcohol, while it was raining. LOL
I have finally seen a NFL player with somewhat of a half of brain cell. I do not agree with him being drunk in public and being so wasted he didn't know how he got wet. I am greatful that he wasn't behind the wheel and asking the officer how he got wet only to find out it's blood; not realizing he just killed someone because he was drinking and driving.
I agree. I%u2019m glad he wasn%u2019t driving. Nobody hurt, except maybe his ego a bit. A 23 year-old punter getting drunk and going for a swim in a canal! Classic! Roger Goodell will probably see the need to suspend him 143 weeks for this. Goodell = No good for the NFL.
wow you must all be real good sounds like you never did anything bad in your sweet life
Another nfl thug drunk and acting like an idiot. jetsnrock you probably think this is a cool thing. It isnt.
It's not that we are really good, we are simply saying that A)23 year old dufus, B) If you are paid big money to just PUNT a ball (that's his job folks)don't screw up your personal life, and C) swimming in a canal while dead drunk (who knows, he had to get there somehow, and maybe drove his car into the canal) has the logic of a moron. Of course, he will be summoned to the fat NFL puppet Goodell's office for a no-no speech, and will suffer the wrath of the Colts coach, and owner but, he really should be more afraid of Peyton Manning. Manning has a look he gives to wayward young players while he plants his cleated shoe up any wrongdoer's deserving arse.
what is gonna take for these NFL players to wake up, its like you join the NFL and become a bone head.
Although it's not a good thing to get drunk and swim in a canel. He did not drive, and he behaved himself when in Police custody. I remember back some years ago when a player would OD on drugs about once a week. At least he was only drinking. I don't like the fact that Goodell has the final say in how he will be punished. This man is not good for the NFL ( Judge & Jury ) not America
Theres not much to say. Every one else has said it. But its going to happen again and again. When is the NFL going to crack down on these drunks. If it happen to one of us we would be in jail for a while. Some of them get a slap on the hands and do it again. I say throw them in jail for a month to a year. That way they can think about what they did wrong. While in jail, you don't get pay either and you will lose your job too.
You are a jerk. What happened to this young man is the same that would happen to you or I. Public drunks get a night in jail and then are released. They receive a court date and first offense is usually a warning from the judge. We don't get fired from our jobs, unless we are stupid and tell the boss. We realize we make a mistake and behave in the future.
boy you white people are pathetic, let's point him towards ireland and kick him in the butt
Somehow Dretis makes it a racial incident.Must be because they cant find any blacks able to kick a football.I'sure its very complicated.
