Let's get this party started.
The first official Bowl Championship Series standings, which will decide which teams will play for the national title, were released Sunday night. And -- a drum roll, please -- Oklahoma sits on top of the standings, followed by Oregon and Boise State.
So, there you have it.
Of course, let's keep the applause to a minimum. Even the boos. Enjoy the appetizers with your favorite soda or cocktail. The Sooners may not want to get too comfortable, or pose for photos, especially after the past two weeks.
Just ask Ohio State, wink-wink. The Buckeyes became the second No. 1 team in the traditional polls to lose in October when Wisconsin beat them on Saturday.
And, let's keep an eye on Alabama, too. The defending national champion, at No. 8, isn't out of the cereals, nuts and pretzels -- you know, the Party Mix.
The title chase is far from over, and the experts -- the ones with the party hats -- caution that plenty can still happen. The greater debates are still to come, since the standings will be revealed weekly through Dec. 5.
Oklahoma's emergence as No. 1 is actually a popular pick, despite the Sooners' close calls thus far. But after their 52-0 blowout over Iowa State and Nebraska's tumble against Texas, many figured the Sooners could leap to the top.
But for how long? Oklahoma has six regular-season games remaining, starting Saturday at undefeated Missouri and ending with Oklahoma State.
And even if sentimental favorite and BCS party crasher Boise State had landed at the top as some projected, most still believe it would slip anyway in later weeks due to its strength -- or lack thereof -- of schedule.
Of course, this is the first week that Oregon has been No. 1 in the Associated Press football rankings, which go back to 1936. The Ducks moved up one position during an off week.
The unbeaten ranks will further thin on Saturday with this juicy two-step -- Oklahoma at Missouri and LSU at Auburn.
Auburn, TCU, LSU, Michigan State, Alabama, Utah and Ohio State round out the BCS top 10.
Naturally, Alabama needs to finish 12-1 through the league championship to have any hope of reaching the BCS title game. However, the Tide received help last Saturday as Ohio State and Nebraska fell to the wayside.
If two of three conference champions from the Big Ten, Big 12 and Pac-10 each have a defeat, many also believe that a one-loss Alabama would finish ahead of unbeatens Boise State or TCU.
Like it or not, the BCS standings are derived from a formula that includes six different computer systems as well as the USA Today Top 25 coaches' poll and the Harris Interactive Poll, which polls 114 voters in a panel made up of former collegiate coaches, players and administrators as well as current and former media members.
Let's get this party started. But pace yourself.
Plenty can still happen.

this is exactly why the bcs is flawed... oklahoma is like number 6 in other polls but when the first bcs poll comes in theyre number 1 all of a sudden...what the hell
Agreed, Big Rog! Oregon is #1 in AP, Coaches & Harris Interactive Polls, while Oklahoma is #3 in AP & Coaches Polls, and #4 in Harris, but the stupid BCS leap-frogs Oklahoma to the #1 position??????? I thought BCS was based on an almagamation of the 3 Polls... This is utterly ludricous, outrageous, and most certainly undeserving!!!
Ok, lets get this straight, the BCS isnt flawed, it would work the same way if there were a playoff system, those non bcs schools will always get overl looked do to the fact that their schedules start off good with non conference play and end up with a crap schedule, like Boise St, they play really good football then comes the conference and, well, its true Boise cant hang with a tough conference schedule like Oklahoma, Alabama, Ohio St, and Oregon. each of these teams earn their right to be number one, not because they beat a few good teams at the beginning of the season, but all the way through it, Oklahoma played a tough schedule thus far, even though you dont see USU as a good team, they really do bring a lot to the table, and OU got punished for its sloppy win, they dropped down a spot, but seeing as it is they beat a FSU team whos only loss is to OU, and then a ranked formerly ranked AFA team, not to mention a win over the team who just beat Nebraska, then after that a shut out on ISU, Oklahoma has racked up a ton of style points, what has boise done? what has tcu done? exactly nothing much, they deserve to get passed over by schools who "CONSISTENTLY" play and win good football games against good football teams. You shouldnt complain, and just congratulate a good team for its hard work, Boise yes deserves some respect, it can and has shown that it can hang with the big boys, but not on a week to week basis. If BSU had to play texas, go on play ISU, then a week later go on and play AT Mizzou, do you think they could handle the pressure, NO, not at all.
They always give it to a team that hasn't been on top for a while.
Oklahoma is there from strength of schedule so far those other teams do not match up and Oklahoma is taking care to get the wins name another undefeated team with a better winning schedule then Oklahoma right now
there is none it is simple put up or shut up.
HERES THE DEAL, ALL THESE TEAMS THAT ARE PAPER CHAMPS JUST LIKE BOISE STATE , THE COMPS TELL THE TRUTH, A ONE OR 2 LOSS SEC TEAM IS MUCH MUCH STRONGER THAN AN UNDEFEATED WEAK CONFERENCE TEAM, IT HOLDS TRUE EVERY YEAR , JUST LOOK AT OHIO STATE , THE LAST TWO TIMES THE SPORTS WRITERS SAID THEY WERE THE GREATEST, THEY GOT DESTROYED BY SEC TEAMS, THEY PLAY A WEAK SCHEDULE ALL YEAR TO TRY TO PAD THIER NUMBERS AND GET IN THE GAME , BUT IT DOESNT HELP YOUR TEAM TO PLAY WEAK ALL YEAR. SAME AS THE OTHER CONFERENCES, LOOK WHAT HAPPENED TO HAWAII 2 YEARS AGO, THEY WERE CAMPAINING FOR A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME BECAUSE THEY WERE UNDEFEATED, BUT WHEN THEY RAN INTO A REAL TEAM THAT PLAYS A REAL SCHEDULE, THEY GOT DESTROYED , IT WAS OVER BY HALFTIME. YOU HAVE TO PLAY REAL COMPITITION AND NOT PAD YOUR SCHEDULE AND WHEN IT COMES TIME YOU CAN COMPETE UNTIL THEN YOU CANNOT

I guess you haven't watched much football for the past few years , the requirements set in 2004 are still in effect . The AP Poll is not used at all due to EXTREME bias toward and against certain teams . The Harris poll was created to replace them and usually comes very close to the coaches poll which is also used . the last 1/3 of the formula consists of an average of 6 different computor polls "which factor in each schools Strength of Schedule ". A team that plays nothing but very weak teams all year , in order to amass a large win record , gets less credit than a team that schedules strong teams and runs the risk of losing .
Chokelahomo wont be their long. I sure they will lose to either Missouri or Ok St. I'm also sure they couldn't beat them team Texas has become after they got their crap together.
BCS=Bull Crap System. What a Joke! OK is no where near the number 1 team.
we need a real play off system bcs is rigged
Oklahoma????????What the hell???
I agree Camelot!
Boomer sooner!!!!!!! all you OU haters GO ....... OFFFF DEAL WITH IT LMAO
I'm not worried about it at all. You guys will get "boomed" pretty good by Mizzou this weekend, so it'll all work out and be right as rain.

the sooners are over rated if oregon wasnt idle they would of been #1 in the bcs
Boise is getting screwed! This team does nothing but win, has a top rated defense. Just because they are becoming independent, they won't get a shot. I am not a Boise fan, but have seen them play. They deserve a shot. How does a team in 4th by pass everyone to first? College football is screwed up!
First off, BSU is not an independent. Secondly, they screw themselves by not playing other teams that are in the top ten. Come on, you really think that passing yards accumulated by bsu against the competition they schedule is a big deal?
boise maybe plays 1 good team per year they shouldnt even be in the top 10.everyone is so jelous of oklahoma.the teams that got screwed in the poll are auburn and LSU.also all texas did this week is what you should do with nebraska, make there QB throw the ball(he is a poor passer),oklahoma will play more ranked teams this year than anyone in the country.GO OU
Actually if you had watched Boise State play this year, last year, or a couple of years ago when they beat Oklahoma, you would realize that they (1) have been in the top echelon for several years and (2) would probably beat Oklahoma again this year.
