I own the 360 version of this game, don't know if thats the problem.
I follow the audio commands and it instructs you to crater the runway so the planes can't take off. Is it just me or do craters not appear on this version? If they do, I've thrown at least 4 volleys of rockets at almost the same location on the runway to no avail.
Also, what is the best tactic for this mission? It doesn't seem to matter if I destroy all the planes in the airport, they still take off at the scheduled intervals. Someone please help.

The best tactic for me was to eliminate almost every enemy aircraft on my own. Take the ground targets down as you can, but focus on the aircraft, especially when they first spawn on the runway.

As far as cratering and destroying the runway... Don't waste your time. It's all about elimination of as much by yourself as possible. Once you decide to go after all the fighters, especially long before the bombers get close to the objective, you'll be fine and this mission will not give you the fits that it is giving you right now.

ive followed the tips but i have just failed every time

what you do is just shoot a volley of rockets at the planes that have actually spawned and are on the runway(shooting the lined up parked planes,tower,hangers and runway dont do anything.

When you first pass the strip, shoot at the aa guns and then shoot a volley of rockets at the planes taking off. then shoot the aa guns again and repeate this. make sure your squads roe is attack and use franks ace combat special ability.

Damm, this mission is hard!

Hmmmm, how did I finish it? Determination, changing my tactics/approach. Not quitting and looking for some kind of cheat to bypass it.

That's the beauty of this game. No cheats(that I know of). So, if you can't develop the skill to mover further into the game, sux to be you.

The harder you try in this game, the more you are rewarded. The rewards are more than medals and rank. The biggest and most important reward is the skill that you develop to go online and dominate the sky, even when you and your wing-man are playing 4 vs 2, and you are the 2 side of that equation.

In my opinion, this is one of the best games out there, because there are no cheats and every new room is a new experience and players arrive on their own merits. My wing-man and I just only started playing ranked matches yesterday and we can't get enough. You either perform or you go down in flames. Simple as that. No glitching, no holes to crawl into and wait. No possibility to spawn camp. It's just you and your bare ass out there in the breeze and you better be able to perform.

Now all I need to do is convince the MODS to create a 360 specific forum for this game and let me mod it.

Keep playing, you'll get better or you won't, but don't quit.

this mission i find is impossible i do everything it tells me but there r 2 many enemy planes in the air

actually bombing the parked aircraft does stop so many planes from spawning runway.
on my first pass i took out the planes on the runway then i took out most of the aa.more planes spawned. i rocketed them and then destroyed the remaining aa and parked planes and no more fighters spawned.i was left with the 2 zeros that escaped my first attack i finished em off with time to spare and then waited for the bombers to reach tyhe base

Again, as I said before, destroy the planes ON the runway and in the air, you can destroy the ground targets and the AA after you eliminate the enemy aircraft.

just concentrate on the japanese planes that keep respawnin they r the biggest problem
and i completed the game 2day

just strafe the airfield like crazy
load rockets and machine gun bullets into the buildings and the planes
tell ur squad to find their own targets so they can help the bombers with any zeros that take off

Holy ****! i finally got here... and I mean finally! And gosh dang, if I thought the other levels were hard, this one really kixmyazz.
The other levels I was at least able to stay in the air most of the time! Guess I should concentrate on the AA at the front and aft of the airstrip as well as taking out as many zero's taking off, as well as calling for Joe to fix my plane, watching my six, calling for strategic formations and backup, doing a top gun to turn back and strafe the takers off! oh yea, and did I say watchin my six and taking out more zeros? GEEZ!!!!

2 months of playing Battlefield1942 as a ground pounder made that mission easy pickings

My way was tell the planes to attack as soon as the game starts then go full throttle all the time, first taking out the aa guns on the right or left keep your speed up and attack the next aa guns in your path, slow down to return full throttle at the aa guns again the aeroplanes may be taking off at this time so you should be behind the zekes as they are taking off. Take what you can out, the biggest thing at this level is the aa guns if you leave them you are dead and there are no craters to be made on the runway, form up your wingmen point them at the bombers then press attack and yourself take out what planes you can, it takes time to do it at speed to get it right but it is the only way so the aa don't get you. Hope this helps I am now struggling with the Fjord.

I'm playing this on the PC. First off, even after my updating the game twice my joystick STILL doesnt work. I have a Logitech Extreme 3D pro.
And Rearding Rabaul, Game designers for UBI. You have ruined the game with this level. Build up to this difficulty or at least establish specific known goals.

Anyways, i know UBI isnt going to read these forums... But i hate ths level. I hate it, and i want to see a number of people who complete it first time through. How much time do i actually have?

Side note, is there anyway to pass the ingame movies, as i'm tired of watching the bombers approach at the beginning of the level.

as for time doing the mission once to many of youre bombers are destroyed the mission fails ive done a thread with video clips of rabaul its some tips i made for passing rabaul once u get the first part done the rest is easy
