Kimberly Cole Gets Revenge With 'Smack You'

Kimberly Cole had a blast filming her video for 'Smack You,' but who wouldn't enjoy acting out a cathartic revenge fantasy in an all-dancing fight club? Kimberly stopped by PopEater to chat about roller-skating wipe-outs, her dream show and the very real inspiration behind the "Tonight I'm gonna smack a b----" lyrics. With a few professional roller-skating competitions under her studded belt, the pop singer feels that "everything is converging now": the contortionist, circus moves on wheels, the dance moves from her choreographer Tricia Miranda, the sound and the style. When onstage, she works her alter ego. "I have this Sasha Fierce thing going on, but my own and darker," Kimberly says, demonstrating her signature move, the Kimmy Cuffs.

The Quentin Tarantino-inspired video comes with a disclaimer: Cole doesn't condone violence, she's just having fun. The song stems from an incident when a former friend and dancer viciously insulted her before a showcase. Cole swallowed her anger and spat it back out in form of a catchy song, which she wrote with B.o.B. and Cee Lo Green collaborator Philip Lawrence. The catty enemy in question was slated to star as herself in the video without knowing the song is about her, but Cole opted to have Natalie Nunn of 'The Bad Girls Club' instead, wishing to leave her nemesis in the shadows because "she's the kind of girl that if she knew the truth, she would be like 'Ha, there's a hit song about me.' I just hope there won't be a real b----slap fest when she finds out though," Cole says, laughing.

Though she's keeping it low-key for now, Cole has grand things in mind for her future concerts. "I'm just waiting for the time when I can do my live show the way I see it in my head," Kimberly says. "I want to sit down with a guitar and sing something stripped-down and then do a song while roller-skating, be lifted and thrown in the air and then get my boots on and dance! I love what I do. I'm so happy that I followed the passion of this dream," she says. "I do get nervous before the show, beyond nervous. As a skater, I've done some embarrassing things before. I rolled into the bleachers once, though if I got famous on TMZ for rolling off the stage, maybe that would work for me." With an attitude like that, we're sure Cole can turn all life's slips and conflicts into something positive.
