iBoot + MultiBeast: Install Mac OS X on any Intel-based PC

Any OSx86 installation guide can seem daunting at first glance, especially when trying to remember cryptic terminal commands and sorting through volumes of misinformation on the web.  This guide requires no coding, terminal work, or Mac experience of any kind.  You will not need access to a Mac.  In fact, it's easier and faster for me to install Snow Leopard with fully working components on my system than it is to install Windows 7.  And more fun.

The iBoot + MultiBeast method is designed and tested for any desktop or laptop running the latest line of Intel processors, the Core i3/i5/i7s.  I have had reports of success with older machines as well including CoreDuo, Core2Duo, and even Pentium 4.  However, AMD processors are not supported.

YOU WILL NEED

 • A computer running an Intel Processor
 • A blank CD
 • A copy of the Mac OS X Snow Leopard Retail DVD
 • To leave any fear of your computer at the door.
 • Patience and humility- it may not work out perfectly the first time- but with enough tenacity and grit, you'll reach the promised land.  It's easy to get frustrated, but don't give up!  There are a community of users with similar hardware in the tonymacx86 Forum to provide support if you get stuck.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
 • If you have greater than 4gb of RAM, remove the extra RAM for a maximum of 4gb.  You can put back any extra RAM in after the installation process.
 • Use only 1 graphics card in the 1st PCIe slot with 1 monitor plugged in.
 • Remove any hard drives besides the blank drive being used for OS X.
 • Remove any USB peripherals besides keyboard and mouse.
 • Remove any PCI cards besides graphics- they may not be Mac compatible.
 • If using a Gigabyte P55 board, use the blue Intel SATA ports- not the white Gigabyte SATA ports.
 • It's best to use an empty hard drive- you will have to partition and format the drive.
 • Always back up any of your important data.
STEP 1: BIOS SETTINGS
You will need to set your BIOS to ACHI mode and your Boot Priority to boot from CD-ROM first.  This is the most important step, and one many people overlook.  Make sure your bios settings match these.  It's not difficult- the only thing I did on my Gigabyte board besides setting Boot Priority to CD/DVD first was set Optimized Defaults, change SATA to AHCI mode, and set HPET to 64-bit mode.

STEP 2: INSTALL MAC OS X

In order to boot the Mac OS X Retail DVD, you'll need to download and burn one of the 3 versions of iBoot.  The most universal solution is iBoot NVIDIA. iBoot ATI adds drivers to support more ATI graphics cards. Or if you have a supported processor, such as the Core/Core2, or a new i3/i5 dual core, try iBoot Supported- with Vanilla kernel.

 1. Download iBoot
 2. Burn the image to CD
 3. Place iBoot in CD/DVD drive
 4. Restart computer
 5. At Chameleon prompt, eject iBoot

 6. Insert your Mac OS X Snow Leopard Retail DVD and press F5
 7. When you see the screen below, press enter to begin the boot process
 8.
 9. When you get to the installation screen, open Utilities/Disk Utility
 10. NOTE: If you can't get to the installation screen, retry the process, but type -x at the screen above.  This will enter Mac OS X Safe Mode, which will allow you to proceed.
 11. Partition your hard drive to GUID Partition Table
 12. Format your hard drive to Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
 13. For the purposes of this guide, name it Snow Leopard.  You can rename it later.
 14. Close Disk Utility
 15. When the installer asks you where to install, choose Snow Leopard
 16. Choose Customize‚ and uncheck additional options.  This will hasten the install process.  You can always install this stuff later.
 17. At the end of the installation, you may get an Install Failed: Mac OS X Cannot Be Installed on this Volume, as shown in the photo below.  This is normal- and happens every time with the patched kernel that's loaded from iBoot. (You'll get a friendly Install Succeeded if you used iBoot Supported, because it uses the Vanilla kernel.)
 18. Just continue with the guide.  If you can't continue, reboot, erase the drive, and try the install again.
 19. Restart computer.
 20. Place iBoot back in drive.
 21. When you get to the Chameleon boot selection screen, choose your new Snow Leopard installation.
 22. View the super-cool Mac OS X Snow Leopard Welcome Video, and set up your computer!

STEP 3: UPDATE TO 10.6.4
Upon the release of 10.6.2 and the 27" Intel Core i5 and i7 iMacs, Mac OS X Snow Leopard officially supports the Core i5 750 and Core i7 860.  The 10.6.4 Update will install a Vanilla Kernel, as well as a host of security and stability fixes. Details are available on Apple's website.
 1. Open Finder and navigate to your Snow Leopard drive.
 2. Right-click and delete Mac OS X Install Folder.  This folder is an unnecessary remnant of the installation process, and serves no purpose.
 3. Download the Mac OS X 10.6.4 Combo Update
 4. Download MultiBeast
 5. Open MultiBeast- don't run it yet, just leave it open.  Set up windows as shown.
 6. Mount MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.4.dmg
 7. Install MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.4.pkg
 8. Upon completion, the installer will ask you to reboot.  DO NOT REBOOT.
 9. Switch to the already open MultiBeast.  If it closes, just re-open it.
STEP 4: MULTIBEAST
MultiBeast is an all-in-one post-installation tool designed to enable boot from hard drive, and install support for Audio, Network, and Graphics. It contains two different complete post-installation solutions: EasyBeast and UserDSDT.  In addition it includes System Utilities to rebuild caches and repair permissions and a collection of drivers, boot loaders, boot time config files and handy software.

Choose one of the following options directly following a fresh installation and update:

EasyBeast is a DSDT-free solution for any Core/Core2/Core i system. It installs all of the essentials to allow your system to boot from the hard drive. Audio, Graphics and Network will have to be enabled separately.

UserDSDT is a bare-minimum solution for those who have their own pre-edited DSDT. Place your DSDT.aml on the desktop before install. Audio, Graphics and Network will have to be enabled separately.  HINT: Check the DSDT Database for a pre-edited DSDT.
 1. Run MultiBeast.
 2. If you have a custom DSDT that's been edited, place the file on your desktop and choose UserDSDT.
 3. All others select EasyBeast
 4. Select System Utilities.
 5. Optionally, you may install further drivers via Advanced Options to enable ethernet, sound, graphics, etc...  Be sure to read the documentation provided about each installation option.  NOTE: EasyBeast, and UserDSDT install Chameleon RC4 by default, so you'll not need to check that option.
 6. Install to Snow Leopard- it should take about 4 minutes to run scripts.
 7. Eject iBoot.
 8. Reboot- from your new Snow Leopard installation drive.

Congratulations!  You're done!!

Your PC is now fully operational, while running the latest version of Mac OS X Snow Leopard!  And you have a nice Boot CD to get into your system in case things go awry.  Boot your system from iBoot if you have issues.  You may run MultiBeast as often as you like.

If you can't boot, try typing -x at the Chameleon prompt to enter safe mode, or just boot with iBoot.  When you get to the desktop, you can make all of the changes you need to.  The best way to start fresh is delete whatever you're trying to get rid of- including the whole /Extra folder, as most kexts are installed there.  Then you can re-run MultiBeast.  As long as you rebuild caches and repair permissions after you're done, you can do just about anything you want to /Extra/Extensions and /System/Library/Extensions.  Anything can be tweaked and enabled upon subsequent uses of MultiBeast.

If you've had success using iBoot + MultiBeast, consider a contribution to help keep the sites going.  We're constantly updating and tweaking our tools to help you.

Thanks in advance!

Would this be safe if I installed OS X SL on a computer with Core i7 860 if it is overclocked? I have my CPU at around 4GHz.

The board is Gigabyte, with nVidia graphics.

hi tony
i tested your new iboot and MultiBeast but they are not working at all
my spec are : core i7 720QM , Nvidia GT 230M, 4GB Ram

First i tried the iboot nvidia , it loads only using CPUS=1 , i tried busratio=12 but it gives me KP
when using CPUS=1 after loading nvenabler it gives me KP
So i used "tonymacx86-P55BootCD 2xx.iso", it works good
then installed SL , updated to 10.6.3, installed EasyBeast unsupported and restarted
then booted with chamelon CPUS=1 , -x and it loads all the kexts and all goes fine
but it DON'T OPEN ANY GUI , it just stops and snow leopard don't open

so what is the problem now

Guy#1 said...

Had same prob as other boot CDs. Installs fine, but when trying to load Snow Leopard drive, the bootloader stops at "ERROR: Unable to find SMBIOS!" It does not even get to SL, just stops in bootloader...

(trying on USB IDE drive and USB Flash drive)

I installed SL a few months ago on SATA external by using another MacBook but I have no access to one now.

seems to be a problems with the preboot.dmg. on iBoot. no mountable filesystems

Maybe also add PS/2 drivers and Netkas Aty_init.kext as optional, because GTX 2XX card using EFI strings sometimes fails to start.

Will this work on i7 900 series processors.

Great work Tony!

To folks who don't have things working, try posting on the forum.

Your best bet is to research and pick compatible hardware, then try to install if you have the option!

Hi Tony,

I "refreshed" my install on 10.6.2 by deleting Extra folder and rebuilding cache. Then I use GigaBeast and selected P55A-UD3P, my motherboard for i5.

Boot-up is much faster now, however...still no sound. Profiler shows AudioID as '888' with all the jacks identified. In sound input and output are blank.

Can anyone help? :(

thanks - mikey

I did not get that OS X 10.6.2 sleep and adequately worked with sound on vanilla kernel, even editing the DSDT, although P55 and Nvidia. I have a dream, and I love this system. Unfortunately, I had clean the disc from the MAC OS and return to Windows.

Thank you, Tony. Apparently, Apparently I have not been able to digest all the material here and good to put MAC. It is difficult to understand the translated text by Google. I'll try again. In the now i must prepare for the exams at the institute. Thank you. You really helped me.

But I'll be back =DDD

Would it be possible to include an option to install multibeast in the EFI partition instead ?

The refreshed 15 inch macbook pro with the i5 processors supports integrated intel graphics - GMA HD. Does this mean that standard pc notebooks with i5 processors and GMA HD will work (unlike with GMA X4500). Are there kexts for the GMA HD in 10.3? (I'm new this use - sorry if my query is a bit basic).

Hi Tony!

Thanks again for the great work! I had a well running 10.6.3 System and just backed up my old kexts and the extra folder. Then I installed the 10.6.3 combo update again and at last I installed everything with the MultiBeast. No changes so far, everything is okay EXCEPT for Audio, which only works with 10.6.2 AppleHDA.kext in S/L/E and the JMicron Kexts don't seem to bring a change for HDDs, so I will delete them! I have the same Mobo like you and the same CPU i5 750.

Take care!

finally i updated to 10.6.3, after a lot of fails , i finally got it to work (but still with CPUS=1)
and all thnx goes to you and the new MacBook Pro kernel , it seems that the original 10.6.3 kernel don't match my laptop
what i do:
1) installed macosx and updated to the latest 10.6.3
2) downloaded the macbook pro update from here http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1026
3) when i tried to install this update it gives me a message
Alert This software is not supported on your system
4) so i used pacifist to install the update
5) used your MultiBeast and installed chameleon and fakesmc.kext, and finally SL 10.6.3 working
so it will be great to add this new kernel and method :)

but now what can i do to overcome the CPUS=1 problem, please replay

Tony, thanks for all the great work. Just wanted to say I used the new MultiBeast w/GigaBeast and the method described in this post to apply the 10.6.3 Delta Update to a working 10.6.2 system and had no problems. P55A-UD3, i5-750. Still can't get sleep working even after the DSDT fixes, am going to try speedstep next.

Update to 10.6.3 all OK except sound.
I tried to use the MultiBeast with AppleHDA 10.6.2, but did not change anything.
I found the kext here (http://www.kexts.com/view/265-patched_applehda_10.6.2_kext.html) and installed it using Kext Helper and then I got sound working.

Using the old method tonymacx86P55BootCD.iso described in the previous post works perfectly ...

Any suggestions for a GA-H55M-S2H mobo and an i3 540 CPU?

I'm using an eVGA 8400GS, and NOT the on-chip GMA.

I'm also using a hand-built DSDT with devices and methods for the 8400GS (DSDT + nV Enabler 64) and the ALC888b (DSDT + hacked AppleHDA), and both are presently working thanks to an older version of MultiBeast.

Hi Tony, I appreciate your help,
I have a problem with the new iBoot + MultiBeast:
10.6.3 install without problems, but the audio is cut off at times and when I do the audio process generates some noise, I have a motherboard with P55-F6 UD3R 8 i7 ram and a 860.

In my old 10.6.2 install everything worked perfect, then install another disk with the new iBoot + MultiBeast but this time only until 10.6.2 update and everything works fine but the audio is defective, then replace the DSDT with which Multibeast 0.9.9 but still fails, I think there is something in the new change in the new MultiBeast failing either 10.6.2 or 10.6.3 appreciate any help

The other problem I have is when I go into the Disk Utilities to format the hard drive I only see the IDE drive and not the 2 SATA drives, and when trying to install OS X I can only boot from the IDE DVD drive and not the SATA DVD RW drive.

Where am I going wrong? what should I do to get OS X running on my PC, by the way I am new to all of this and don't understand all of the gargan used.

So I am trying to do this on an intel i5 chip with an evga p55 sli board, and i'm wondering if maybe my board simply isn't compatible with iBoot, or if that actually matters at this point( I really have no idea what i'm doing)

I did set the AHCI and the boot priority, but the bloody machine refuses to see the iBoot disc i created to boot off of which leads me to wonder; You [TMx86] said "Burn the image to CD" and I am wondering did you mean i should burn the downloaded zip file, the expanded iso, the little drive icon it created on my desktop, or the contents (Extra, usr). It is a simpletons mistake I know, but I figured i might as well ask just to make sure I burned the right one (I burned the iso) or to find out if i didn't.

Also, I noticed the dsdt corresponding to my board isn't on your list, and i was wondering if there is a program i can use in either Windows7 or Ubuntu's Karmic Koala to extract it myself so i can make my own custom boot cd for the old set of instructions.

Anyway thanks for all you're doing! Haha i mean I haven't gotten the hang of this yet obviously but i'm glad someone out there is doing it right!

After weeks of reading your forums and posts, budgeting and getting the parts (UD2, i5 750, 4GB XMS3, WD Blue 500GB, eVGA 9500GT 1GB dual DVI, CoolerMaster 460W PSU, Lite On DVD RW, MacBoxSet Family), I am up and running on 10.6.2 for now (went the safe, stable route for the first try). That was early this morning, and had to leave for work, but so far everything seems to work out of the box (after MultiBeast of course). Hi Guys,

What what components would be best to buy for a system to be built for this purpose?

So far I got these;

CPU: core i5 750
Mainboard: GA-P55M-UD4 (cheapest board with ALC889a)
Graphics Card: ??? NVidia 9800 ???
Hard Drive: any
Case: any

Would such a configuration be compatible? If not, which components should I prefer?

Thank you...

Hey, thanks for the awesome guide! I'm kinda stuck at the moment, though.

I've got the Snow Leopard installation on a USB stick, which iBoot sees fine. But when I select the installer my monitor loses the input, my graphics card's fan goes full bore and the system locks up (and turns off instantly when I press the power button, suggesting that it's not going anywhere near the Snow Leopard installation). I've also tried starting up in safe mode, AND I've tried it with a Leopard disk (which I wasn't particularly expecting to work but thought was worth a try anyway) with no luck.

Here are the specs of my system:

Motherboard: eVGA P55 LE
CPU: Intel Core i5 750
GFX: XFX 5850 (Vanilla)

The loss of input automatically made me assume that it was the 5850, but the fact that the system becomes completely braindead makes me think it's something else... the motherboard, I'm assuming.

Any ideas as to how to get it working? Is this a fairly common problem?

Thanks in advance,
Lachlan

Hey Tony,

Thanks for this sweet guide - I think it's the most user friendly guide I've come across so far.

Sadly I've given up - I had no luck after two solid days of trying to install SL on an ASUS N61 JQ (HM55 chipset, ATI 5730 vid), so I'm giving it a rest.

If anyone knows of support for this wicked laptop do let me know - until then I simply don't have the know how!

Where to specify these?
Thanks.

Hey Tony,

Easiest guide ever, works perfect with retail dvd and combo 10.6.3 update. Did the install, first time which worked pretty ok then I messed it up and did another install (later realised I did not need to reinstall). Mobo is ASUS P5N EM-HDMI with in built graphics Nvidia GeForce 7100/nForce 630i, 2GB corsair RAM, intel Q6600 quad core @2.4ghz.

Issues are the built in nvidia does not give more than 1024x768 resolution and I could not fix it, needless to say did not have QE so I bought a $30 Nvidia 512MB 8400GS DDR2 card and used the nvenabler and voila! full QE/CI working!
Sound uses voodooHDA, lan was working and to be honest I dont know if it was due to easy beast or OOB as I ran easybeast before I tried the lan. Bootloader is chameleon option, also works with the iHack version. The only other thing I changed was in the bios ACHI.

I have a dual boot with Win7 (GUID patition) on a separate drive, also have ubuntu (GUID partition) on the same drive as Win7 but strangely its not picked up by chameleon so will try another bootloader (I also tried with MBR partition but wasnt picked up either), but I'm happy all the same.

Oh yeah, the power, shut down, restart all work, also the multimedia keys on my keyboard all work. I think the only thing I'm missing is a webcam which I dont see the need for so wont buy one.

Anyone with this motherboard also had success?

Tony you are the man!

Hi,

My problem is that the bios finds no disk or CD-ROM while connected to the blue ports on my gigabyte P55-UD4 under AHCI mode.
It only works with the white ports. Might that be the problem why I can't even get to the installer?

I've tried:
USB-method
OSInstall.mpkg Method (installed under 10.5.6 on other computer)
Old boot cd method
iBoot
-x

Nothing works!

Depending on which method I use it freezes on different locations:

ACPI(timed out)
Realtek Ethernet
VoodooHDADevice

How do I even get my blue ports to run in AHCI mode?

I've got P55-UD4 with Bios F7, i7 860, Sapphire 4870 1GB, 4GB Ram.

The ATI HD 5xxx series aren't supported at all by Snow leopard. You have to wait until Apple gives offical support for these cards I'm afraid.

Why EasyBeast install all on 32bit mode? I managed an installation with iboot + multibeast on my core 2 quad, and it detects a 32bit processor instead of the 64bit real. I have an installation of Mac OSX on the same pc with RebelEFI and it detects and can run all 64bit programs...

On the installation with iboot + multibeast, i was unable to run eclipse 64bit cocoa because the java (and all other programs) is 32bit...

Is there any workaround for this?

Hello,

Yesterday I bought Snow Leopard 10.6.3 dvd to test how it will run on my computer. I followed the steps outlined in this article and my Dell Inspiron 1720 now runs a LEGAL copy of Snow Leopard like crazy. Wireless card, Nvidia 8400 started out of the box. OpenGL runs in full power. the sound I fixed with the help of Vodoo audio driver found in MultiBeast (works input and output!), the ethernet with AppleBCM440XEthernet.kext.pkg. The only thing isn’t working is shutdown (the system itself shuts down but doesn’t turn off power, but I’m not so lazy to push power button…) The only harware that is NOT working is the trackpad and the mouse of my Dell. I’ve tried several drivers of 10.5 version but none of them working for the dell. Anyway I thank you for this simple guide.

I've completed your old installation for i5/i7 sl and Im running it cleanly

My only problem is none of the audio fixes work. I've been trying for weeks with all sorts of HDA kexts but I still get no audio

Should I start clean and use this method?

And if you dont know what installation im talking about, look up Gman027 on youtube because I have a guide for them

I was able to use iBoot to install and get into Snow Leopard with no hassle at all. My only regret is to see that MultiBeast doesn't take advantage of the EFI partition. This would alleviate the issues of software updates. My other box was all manual install using munky's method and still updates direct from software update. Any chance of hosting all the kexts etc separately for the people setting up EFI partitions?

It keeps rebooting after it stays starting darwin.

Any ideas? Otherwise everything is working great.

You guys are trying Snow Leo on very complicated
computers, eg. Asus and a like specific boards with
this and that hardware. Of course Leo will hardly
work on these complicated configurations, and often
will NOT work at all. You better try Leo on simple pc,
like 2 year old notebooks with popular hardware.
Go to apple.com and study the hardware that Apple
computers are using. Then look for computers that
have similar or nearly similar hardware configuration
and install on them your Leos. This way you'll save
days and nights spent on fixing your kexts...

excellent hi tony! installed on a intel dp55wb with i3 (530) using the cd iBoot supported. perfect boot integrating sound and video network, incredible.
Now when I install chameleon in the HD copy the folder / CD Extra iBoot to HD which boots too perfect. But my first problem occurs when I edit. Com.apple.Boot.plist to start in normal mode and is not verbose mode (-v) does not work
Any solution that is my Com.apple.Boot.plist

-
-
Kernel
mach_kernel
Kernel Flags
GraphicsEnabler = Yes
Timeout
1
Legacy Logo
Yes
EthernetBuiltIn
Yes

Com.apple.Boot.plist also delete the Library / Preferences / systconf so smoothly.
But also within the folder HD / I have the famous Extra preboot.dmg and within the Com.apple.Boot.plist I have another that I do with this?

Installed SL with iBoot Supported - working like a charm. Including 10,6,3 update. Motherboard - Gigabyte - E7AUM-DS2H - but I have to remove one 2 Gb module as it works only with 2Gb and no more - I get coruption.

BUT each time after using MultiBeast I lose my resolution - onboard nVidia 9400 is not recognized - just says nVidia with 32 Mb of ram and go in 1024x768 resolution. Sound also not working.

If I use iBoot for boot I have all resolutions - but is already at native monitor resolution - 1280x1024, it corectly display the 256 Mb graphic memory, and I HAVE SOUND, and network WITHOUT installing any other patches or files.

So - How to copy iBoot as main boot on the HDD ? Because for me is better than the bootloader & stuff installed by MultiBeast.

Hey Tony does IBoot have to be copyed to a CD and not a dvd?

so for this method its easiest to purchase the snow leopard cd. and i will not have to upgrade from leopard at all right?

Hey, there's no image file when I download IBOOT supported? Can you post that somewhere?

Hi,

I got a copy of SL DVD & iBoot Nvidia. Tried following options:

1) -x
2) -x -v
3) -x -v cpus=1
4) cpus=1 busratio=17

When I try option 1 & 2 nothing happens. Installation does not proceed further.

When I try option 3 & 4 I get the grey screen with apple logo and then kernel panic.

Am I missing something. By the way I have a Sony Vaio Laptop (VGN C22 GH).

Bout to try this today on a GA-VM800M-775. trying a slight mod to it. doing it from internal hard drive. using this method. man the usb on a g3 is slow lol. probably gonna take 4 hours to transfer the image to the hard drive. i seen that the board in a list was listed as worked well in a 10.5 install if i remember right. this is a 10.6.2 install. also gonna try to do a install from package for something of a live disc. will post back later on this run. been beating my head against the wall for a week on this. got it to boot up to loading screen and it hung on the usb 1.1

well the good news is i got the boot screen. bad new is. got Ebios error on injection. the vm800 just crapped on me. ordering a new mobo. what to pick. lol. its a 775 socket so if anyone knows of a good 775 that will work decently let me know. where i got the ebios errors was on my toshiba l305-s5919

HI! i am Chris, first of all thanks for your Iboot!

i tried almost everything on the web to install SL but i could success only using Iboot Nvidia

I installed snow leopard 10.6.3, it was quite difficult but finally i succeed to do it but i still have following problem:

the only for me to boot is to keep using the CD.
i cannot boot from the hard drive, i tried chameleon 2.0 RC4 and Beast but nothing....

For information i used the installation snow leopard by Hazard and using IBoot for booting....

any body can help me to solve it and make it booting without Iboot CD?

Hey Tony,

I am getting ready to install using this guide, but I am wondering if it is possable to get the boot disk used in this install to see a previously installed version of windows on a SEPERATE hard drive. (AKA i unplugged the HD with windows on it and pluged in a clean HD just for Mac).

NOTE: To anybody who has windows installed aready, as you well know changing your mode from SATA to AHCI will cause a boot failure and will require you to reinstall windows. You can prevent this from happening doing one of two ways.

1. Simply enter bios every time you change OS's and change bios back
2. Activate the AHCI drivers via command prompt in the registry then change the bios settings

I am using:
- Gigabyte S-series GA-EP45-DS3LR/DS3L motherboard

Hi TONY

Have a peculiar problem... UNABLE TO FIND ERROR!! PLS HELP!

Have the following config:

Gigabyte P55 UD6 (updated to F9 still prob exists)
i7 860
Corsair 2*2GB
Zotak 9800GT 1 GB
Corsair 450W
1*500 GB WD
2*1 TB Seagate
all in a Cooler Master
OS10.6.2

Had everything working fine for a month. Now it asks to restart with the black screen. When i checked in verbose mode.. i found Panic with different things like applecpupowermanagement. Kept changing every now and then. Worked fine in safe mode.

In Logic pro when i loaded something large it gave up few times and asked to restart. Thought it was Hard disk related... I changed harddisks to see if that was a problem... but thats not the case. Completely reloaded several times still get the same problem randomly.

Is Corsair 450w enough for this setup or did i need 550? It worked fine for a month.. dunno if its a power issue. In BIOS suddenly it shows 2GB memory, but in OS shows 4 GB. Im just too confused as to what the problem could be.. hardware??? not software i suppose... but how do i locate it.... PLS HELP!!

Cheers
Rahul

U can try this .. ^___^ , if u lucky, u can fix it in post installation ... but if not, then u like me .. to get the full function from the vga, u need to connect it to the external monitor, .. and it's always need .. until now i dont know how to fix it ... ^__^ .. and it make me could not try my the mac box on my laptop ... I have followed Tony MACX86 guide, I am using Iboot to install my Mac OS X Snow Leopard v10.6.3. -1tb SATA hard drive
-MSI N240gt-MD1G-5D graphic card

hi everyone

For those they run the mac osx on a PC: does anyone know if there are some problems with audio latency on OSX intel PC? This question is very important for audio and music production when you are using audio interfaces.

If the setup runs, runs it really native or are there some problems at all?

Can't get past bootloader. I'm on a supported Gigabyte MB, 4gm ram installed, 1 sata hard drive 1 ide dvd drive.

Kernal panic @ "Unable to find driver for this platform: ACPI".

Have tried both iBoot Supported and iBoot Nvidia, as well as the EmpireEFI bootloader, and the osx86sv bootloader. All are reporting kernal panic for lack of ACPI support. Any suggestions? BTW on my particular MB I cannot either enable or disable ACPI -- it is enabled out of the box. I do have an option to set it to either S1 or S3 and am not 100% clear on the dif. Either way I Have tried with both. DVD-rom is in boot spot #1, hdd in second.

Thank you tonymac! the work you have done with the p55 boards is great!

I have a ga-p55m-ud2 and unfortunately I could not get the audio to work with multibeast.

However I was able to get a working audio solution by using the 10.6.0 kexts of "AppleHDA.kext" and "IOAudioFamily.kext". Place those in your S/L/E folder and then place the "Legacy888bHDA.kext", or what ever codec you have, in /Extra. Run multibeast "system utilities" and reboot. You now should hopefully have audio.

hi tony, great job! easiest guide in the world, you're the best one! i have this specs:

i5 650
4GB DDR3 1333
INTEL integrated graphics
1TB SATA AHCI hd
i installed with iboot supported, updated to 10.6.3 with EasyBeast Supported.
now these are my problems: i have to boot with iboot cd inside; in Mac information RAM is DDR2 667 mhz (half of the real speed!); can't find graphics kext and the only resolution is 1024*768, while i need 1960*1200 which is 100% supported by my motherboard.
is there a DSDT for my MB that can simply solve all my problems?:)
thank you very much!

Why do we need to take the RAM out? I have 8gb ram, I didn't bother to take any out and now only 4gb shows up. I'm probably wrong but that feels a bit 32bit (and here's me thinking OSX is a 64bit OS).

How can I fix the RAM issue?

Also, I used MultiBeast to install a vanilla chameleon. It boots up so far, then i get the "You need to turn off your computer and reboot" screen. When I do so, it appears OSX has tried to interfere with CMOS. WTF LOL. Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,
Dan.

Ok, so a little more reading and a little more experimenting goes a long way!

I think the 'Rebuild Caches' and 'Repair Permissions' along with the fakesmc kext install sorted me out. Anyway, I've got my 8GB and everything working on an old EP35-DS4.

Thanks!
Dan.

I'm about to experiment with installing 10.6.3 (just acquired the Retail DVD) on an IBM ThinkPad Lenovo T400. CPUID's System Wizard reports the following specifications:

Mainboard : LENOVO 2768WV7
Chipset : Intel GM45/GM47
Processor : Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo P8600 @ 2400 MHz
Physical Memory : 4096 MB
Video Card : ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400 Series
Hard Disk : HITACHI (160 GB)
DVD-Rom Drive : HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-U20N
Monitor Type : Dell Computer DELL 2408WFP - 24 inches
Monitor Type : LTN141BT04002 - 14 inches
Network Card : 82567LM Gigabit Network Connection
Network Card : PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN [Shiloh] Network Connection
Operating System : Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.01.2600 Service Pack 2
DirectX : Version 9.0c

Of course, if anyone has any advance advice, I'll take it. I plan to follow the instructions on this site to the letter -- I'm detail oriented and patient. I have prepared to do this on a system I can afford to leave idle while troubleshooting occurs, so I'm not going to feel pressure while doing this. Wish me luck!
