Top 20: TV's Sexiest Scenes
by Kim Potts, posted Jun 18th 2010 4:30PM
Randy royals, cage-matched island dwellers and car wash lovin' ... our list of the 20 sexiest scenes in primetime TV history has 'em all, as well as lip-locked lesbians, co-workers whose love/hate relationships took turns for the steamy (and McDreamy) and more than one randy vampire.
Read on to see if you agree with the scenes that get us all hot and bothered ... (Warning: Following material may be NSFW)
20. The Geek (Almost) Gets the Girl
Show: 'Chuck' (2007-present)
Episode: Season 2, 'Chuck Versus the Colonel'
Stars: Yvonne Strahovski and Zachary Levi
Sexy sitch: Spy guy Chuck and his handler Sarah are on the lam and check in to a seedy motel so they won't be caught. In other words, cheesy motel room, only one bed, and when the long-brewing couple wakes up next to each other in bed, holding hands and with their lives and jobs on the line, they take one look at each other and jump into passionate kisses that would have led to even more, had Chuck not maddeningly discovered that his BFF Morgan had taken the condom from his wallet.
Scorch factor: Strahovski and Levi look dead sexy with bedhead.
Show: 'The Sopranos' (1999-2007)
Episode: Season 3, 'The Telltale Moozadell'
Stars: Annabella Sciorra and James Gandolfini
Sexy sitch: They met in Dr. Melfi's office, and you just knew theirs was not going to be a flowers-and-candy romance ... it was more like a Mercedes-and-snake house romance, as in the car dealership where Gloria (Sciorra) worked and where Tony pursued her, and the snake house, as in the zoo location where the duo got it on in a scene that was both titillating and worthy of a 20-page dissection. Seriously ... sex up against the glass cage, with snakes watching? After Tony had just gotten his first hint that Gloria was like his mother, with her "poor you" reaction to his charge that she played head games? Dr. Melfi could've gotten a whole book out of that one interaction alone.
Scorch factor: You never wanted to find anything about Tony Soprano sexy. You know, on account of him being a murderous thug, a cheating bastard of a husband and not what you (or anyone) would call conventionally attractive. But he was a powerful guy, with a pretty good sense of humor, and his versions of romance tended to be raw and lusty and, yes, sometimes sexy.
18. Love in the Rinse Cycle
Show: 'Ally McBeal' (1997-2002)
Episode: Season 3, 'Car Wash'
Stars: Calista Flockhart and Jason Gedrick
Sexy sitch: It's still a bit shocking -- anonymous sex with a dude you meet (actually, they didn't even introduce themselves to each other, verbally anyway) at the car wash? Ally's hot car wash guy hopped into her car, started kissing her and then pulled her out of the car -- during the rinse cycle! -- and got down 'n dirty with the lady lawyer while her auto continued to get cleaned. Ally would later describe the act as making love, before correcting herself and saying the experience was better summed up by "that vulgar verb." You know the one.
Scorch factor: Too bad Hot Car Wash Guy (Gedrick) turned out to be the fiancé of Ally's client, who later asked Ally to be her bridesmaid.
Show: 'Weeds' (2005-present)
Episode: Season 3, 'The Dark Time'
Stars: Mary-Louise Parker and Romany Malco
Sexy sitch: Drug-dealing mama Nancy and her partner Conrad had been building up to this moment, which sparked from one of Nancy's trademark spontaneous moves, planting a kiss on Conrad and then proceeding to get both of them to drop trou (or, in her case, undertrou) and getting down to sexy business on a hallway table.
Scorch factor: Too brief a scene, but Parker and Malco certainly make the most of their screen time.
16. Spy Love
Show: 'Alias' (2001-06)
Episode: Season 2, 'Double Agent'
Stars: Jennifer Garner and Michael Vartan
Sexy sitch: The way Vaughn looks at Sydney while she's cooking dinner for him is, alone, hotter than most TV sex scenes, but when he grabs her, kisses her and points out that they can reheat dinner -- you know, after -- it leads to the long-awaited couple's first coupling, which manages to be both sweet and very, very sexy.
Scorch factor: The sexiness turns a bit creepy when viewers find out that Vaughn and Syd are being secretly taped by the evil fembot Francie.
15. Sapphic Smooching
Show: 'The L Word' (2004-09)
Episode: Season 2, 'Lacuna'
Stars: Katherine Moenning and Sarah Shahi
Sexy sitch: It starts with making out in the backyard, which leads to even more fevered kissing for a brief stop at the dining room table, which leads to even hotter kissing as Carmen (Shahi) pins Shane (Moenning) to a wall and finally winds up in the bedroom, where the couple falls onto the bed and a very enthusiastic romp ensues. Shane was involved in many of the show's steamiest moments, but this one was sexy and sweet, as Shane actually made a rare utterance of the L-word to Carmen.
Scorch factor: Just hot, hot, hot.
14. An Out-of-This-World Sexy Dance
Show: 'Star Trek' (1966-69)
Episode: Season 3, 'When Gods Destroy'
Stars: Yvonne Craig, William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy
Sexy sitch: It's not easy being green ... or sexy when you look like the offspring of the Incredible Hulk and the Jolly Green Giant, but Yvonne Craig, as green-skinned Orion slave Marta, managed to pull off a sexy dance for captain Kirk and Mr. Spock in one of the unsexiest outfits ever. Not that Craig hasn't enjoyed time in one of the all-time sexiest TV outfits ... she was Batgirl in the 1966 live-action 'Batman' TV series.
Scorch factor: Relative to the time, and the standards of how sexy you could get on TV, this was a naughty little number. Besides, again, you try a seductive dance when you're dressed like broccoli.
13. Prom Night
Show: 'Grey's Anatomy' (2005-present)
Episode: Season 2, 'Losing My Religion'
Stars: Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey
Sexy sitch: He was looking at her. That's what led MerDer to their prom night hook-up (a prom the Seattle Grace staff was hosting for Dr. Webber's dying niece), as he looked at her McDreamily while she danced with veterinarian Finn (guest star Chris O'Donnell). Cue to fan fave couple Derek and Meredith in an exam room hook-up session that ended with her MIA panties and, eventually, their reunion.
Scorch factor: When a makeout session with her gorgeous ex ends with her underwear gone a-missin', chances are Meredith and Derek had a good time, no?
12. Workplace Romance
Show: 'Melrose Place' (1992-99)
Episode: Season 2, 'Love, Mancini-Style'
Stars: Heather Locklear and Grant Show
Sexy sitch: Tough professional Amanda liked working class guy Jake partly because he would push back in the face of even her most bee-otchy behavior. Or, in this case, because he pushed off the contents of her desk, climbed up on it with her and engaged in what the Starland Vocal Band was singing about in 'Afternoon Delight.'
Scorch factor: Everything about it was over the top, from Amanda's short, short skirt to Jake's work boots and undershirt, but Locklear helped turn the show into a must-see hit for several seasons, and her short skirts and ability to pull off sexy scenes like this one were a huge reason why.
11. The Thin Line Between Love and Hate
Show: 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' (1997-2003)
Episode: Season 6, 'Smashed'
Stars: Sarah Michelle Gellar and James Marsters
Sexy sitch: They had kissed before, but it never brought down the house like it (literally) did when this season 6 fight turned passionate, and the abandoned building in which The Buffster and Spike were roping came crashing down around them.
Scorch factor: They. Brought. Down. The. House. Literally.

With respect to a statement about Yvonne Craig in #14, "No wonder she went on to land the role of Batgirl in the 1966 live-action 'Batman' TV series": She was Batgirl BEFORE she appeared on Star Trek. Batman ended in spring 1968 and her Star Trek episode was during the third and last season, 1968-69. Thirty seconds looking at a TV reference book isn't so hard to do.

They screwed up: it's not Yvonne Craig, it's Susan Oliver in a dark brown wig. Susan was 5 years older than Yvonne and a great and great-looking character actress.

How about Nathan Fillion and Melinda Clarke in the Firefly episode "Heart of Gold"? I couldn't believe how much steaminess Joss Whedon gets away with on network TV!

@henry jekyll - That's because "Heart of Gold" never aired on TV. It was one of the 3 that would have aired had the show not already been cancelled -- the other 2 being "Trash" and "The Message". I'm sure that Fox would have trimmed that scene and the nudity in "Trash" at the time. Of course, by today's standards, the "Heart of Gold" scene is rather tame -- especially compared to cable!

It's actually ash-blonde Susan Oliver in a dark brown wig in one of multiple segments from "The Cage" where she appears to Capt Pike as different women. Yvonne was about 5 years younger at the time.

You left out Supernatural... Dean & Cassie or Dean and Anna! The sexy factor in both is Jensen Ackles, and the way it's not only sexy but also very very tender and sweet. BONUS: Sex in the back of the sexiest car on TV: Dean's 1967 Chevrolet Impala
