Soka University of America in Aliso Viejo is inviting the community to attend lectures featuring Betty Williams, the founder of Ireland’s Community of Peace People, and Shirin Edabi, the founder of Iran’s Centre for the Defence of Human Rights. The women, who were each awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, will speak on Oct. 6 at 10:30 a.m. Admission is free with advance reservation. Williams was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1977. Her organization promotes a peaceful resolution to the troubles in Northern Ireland. She is in charge of the Global Children’s Foundation and is president of the World Centers of Compassion for Children International. A lawyer and a former judge, Edabi was awarded the Nobel Prize in 2003 for her dedication to women’s, children’s and refugee rights. For more information, visit soka.edu/news_events.
