Torrance. Four recipients were recently honored at the city of Torrance Parks and Recreation Commission's 53rd annual awards dinner for their efforts in providing recreational opportunities to Torrance residents.

The commission presented Sandie Freeman and Corrina Michalak with the Distinguished Individual Awards for volunteering their services and their commitment to the safe rescue and adoption of wildlife from the Wilson Park pond before it was drained and cleaned.

Soka Gakkai International received the Distinguished Organization Award for each year donating 10 flowering cherry trees that are planted at Columbia Park.

Recreation supervisor Veronica Minter received the Distinguished Staff Award for coordinating quality programs and events for the Torrance community.
