Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone is now highly confident that the inaugural Korean Grand Prix will go ahead, following much doubt in the press due to the state of the brand-new Yeongam circuit which is set to host the next round of the championship in a fortnight’s time.
A much-delayed final FIA track inspection will be held next Monday although Ecclestone, head of commercial rights holders Formula One Management (FOM), is now sure that a Korean Grand Prix of 2010 will take place, signalling an end to his earlier worries.
“I will be there, the world will be watching and we will have a great race - it is on, end of story,” he is quoted as saying by The Express.
“They had problems but they have done wonders in the last few weeks. I’ve been in touch, I’ve seen photographs and the top layer of the track has been laid. They will pass the inspection…despite all the doom stories, I think people will be pleasantly surprised.”
