25 most dangerous neighborhoods 2010
Filed under: Home, Insurance, Real Estate
This year, Chicago took the not-so coveted top spot from Cincinnati for the most dangerous neighborhood, while Atlanta has the highest number of neighborhoods making the list (four).
You may ask, why neighborhoods and not cities? Schiller explains that even the cities with the highest crime rates can have relatively safe neighborhoods, and thus it is less useful to generalize about an entire city.

NeighborhoodScout's Methodology:
Exclusive Neighborhood Crime Information
Location, Inc. offers the most detailed national database of neighborhood crime statistics available today. If neighborhood safety is important to you in selecting your next home, we provide the exclusive information you need for informed decisions.
Most city and town crime data are incomplete and inaccurate because crimes are reported by individual law enforcement agencies (municipal, university, county, etc.), rather than by city or town, and many cities have more than one agency responsible for law enforcement. Even FBI data are reported by agency not by city or town.
But Location, Inc. collects data from all 17,000 local law enforcement agencies in America, and uses a special approach to assign reported crimes from each agency to the city or town where they occurred. Our method provides an accurate representation of the complete number and types of crimes that truly occur within any city or town.
With this accurate foundation, Location, Inc. uses more than eighteen proprietary computer models developed by its expert analysts to statistically estimate the number of violent crimes and property crimes for every neighborhood in the U.S. -- creating a national database of accurate neighborhood crime statistics and crime risk.
The neighborhood data is based on the aggregate crime data for the municipality containing that neighborhood for the most recent year of non-preliminary (final) data available from the FBI. It is important to note that very recent changes in a neighborhood may not be reflected in our findings, as we use non-preliminary data in our models that take a year to be released.
Our crime data cover every one of the 61,000 neighborhoods in America (sub zip code), and every one of the 14,464 cities, towns, villages, boroughs, and hamlets in the U.S. No piece of land in America is without detailed crime statistics.
Why neighborhoods and not cities? Even the cities with the highest crime rates in America can have relatively safe neighborhoods, and thus it is less useful to generalize about an entire city. But using exclusive data developed by Location, Inc., and based on FBI data from all 17,000 local law enforcement agencies, we here report those specific neighborhoods in America that have the highest predicted rates of violent crime of all.
Violent crimes included are the violent crimes from the FBI's Uniform Crime Reports: murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, armed robbery, and aggravated assault. Based on the most recent non-preliminary national data available, and predicted to the individual neighborhood level by NeighborhoodScout's exclusive crime models, we list the top 25 most dangerous. The rating is based on the predicted number of violent crimes in the neighborhood per 1,000 population of the neighborhood.

I am a single mom and wanted nothing more than to get my kids out of day care. I kept looking for a way out until a friend of mine told me that she found a way a to make a great living from home . She told me that she found out about it at this website ( HttP://bit.LY/HomeBizSuccess ). That program doesn't cost much and it quickly taught me the skills I needed to be successful. I started out part time but in a few months I was able to quit my job. Not only am I making serious money now but I get to spend most of my day doing what I love… being a mommy!

WOW THE ALL BLACK NEIGHBORHOODS. WHAT A SURPRISE!!! INSTEAD OF BEING OFFENDED BY MY RACIST COMMENT, STAND UP AND DO SOMETHING TO MAKE YOUR NEIGHBORHOODS BETTER!!!!!!! THE PROBLEM IS, YOU WOULD RATHER SIT AROUND AND BLAME SOMEONE ELSE FOR YOUR BEHAVIOR. ENOUGH. AREN'T YOU (the good black community, and I know there are plenty)AREN'T YOU SICK OF THE THUGS????? YOU CAN NOT DENY THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PREDOMINATELY WHITE NEIGHBORHOODS AND PREDOMINATELY BLACK NEIGHBORHOODS. MY HUSBAND COMPANY JUST RENOVATED A SCHOOL IN A BLACK YORK NEIGHBORHOOD AND IT TOOK ONLY A WEEK FOR THE BLACK THUGS TO BREAK IN AND VANDALIZE AND STEAL THE COMPUTERS.

oh great article ,
You can go to just about any source and find that the southside schools dropout rate has been increasing since 1997, black on black murder has risen, robbery and burglery continue to rise, and drugs and drug related crimes are at all all time high. If this is Obama's legacy to the Chicago area, what will his legacy to America be? God help us!

In the reality of things, violent crimes are not on the rise. They have been steadily dropping since the early 2000s. Still though, bad neighborhoods do exist, but the main factor in the perceived rise of crime is due to the medias non stop publication of violent crimes. It seems like it is a growing problem because we are constantly aware of it.

Who are the people who live in these neighborhoods? It’s the people who cause the crimes, so why does the neighborhood assessment exclude this important bit of information.

Sorry but your handgun is about 47 times more likely to be used against an innocent person than against someone commiting a crime. Because so many gun-happy homeowners have shot police officers investigating possible break-in, many police departments do not allow their officers to enter homes where there is reportedly a gun owner in the house. Leave law enforcement to the police, who have trained for their jobs and have proficiency with weapons.

Paul.Hunt is full of it! There are no statistics that support your outrageous claim. People who own guns and know how to use them are far less likely to be victims. You liberal tree huggers are the problem with all your phony numbers and manipulations of truth. When are you going to realize that the law only restrains those that abide the law. The more you regulate and restrain honest people, the more you enable the criminal. Criminals are social degenerates, race, economic status and upbringing have little to do with what makes a criminal. Face it 90% of the politicians in this country are nothing more than scammers and thieves who hide behind the law.

Paul.Hunt and his family will be dead by the time the police come to his aid in a home invasion. How long does the typical home invasion take to accomplish vs. the average police response time? Oh, and it's interesting that many of the high crime areas are in "no gun zones". Why on earth would anyone advocate non-protection for themselves and their homes? What is the motivation? Besides, I think a vast majority of people will accept a higher crime rate vs. a country where the citizens are not allowed to arm themselves against either the violent criminals or the potential despotic leader or goverment. Go back to 1776 and ask the founders of our country to give up their weapons. Good luck with that one.

I can't remember a mall shooting in Charlotte in 2010, or 2009. There may have been one in '09 that I forgot about, but the last one I can remember was at Northlake in 2008. Prior to that was Eastland in 2006.
You make it sound like Charlotte's malls have a wild west style gunfight every week.
Eastland, the one with the specter of violence, went bust in June. So I don't think anyone will be getting shot there anytime soon.
The Charlotte neighborhood mentioned here is actually called Tryon Hills, and yes, it's violent. I won't even argue that. But the mall in Tryon Hills -- it's called Asian Corner Mall, formerly Tryon Mall -- isn't violent, in fact, it's basically just a brick and mortar hulk with barely anyone inside, the fountain is even dry. The parking lot looks like Grozny.

Great----I find my home city has 4 out of 25 most dangerous neighborhoods-2 in the top 10! I am so proud of Atlanta (and glad I moved to the burbs!) and its' "leadership" not only in crime, but also in having the largest number of employees, per capita of, ANY LARGE CITY IN THE WORLD. Lets' all put our hands together and celebrate the African American Leadership of this great city, and the great job they have done to make Atlanta a leader-not only in the U.S., but in the world.
