Capt. Sully - Why Ditched the Flight 1549 in the Hudson River?

On January 15, 2009 a US Airbus plane A320 bound for Charlotte NC struck a flock of birds immediately during takeoff at LaGuardia Airport and was submerged into the river upto the window level and immediately Coast Guard vessel came and rescued all the 155 passengers.

With both engines failed, the cool headed pilot ditched it in the Hudson river and saved all the passengers alive.

The brave pilot became fame after this accident/incident and he is Chesley  Burnet Sullenberger III . He is called as Capt. sully, who born on January 23 1951 in Denison, Texas to a dentist father and an elementary school teacher mother.

Have you watched the video on the right side of this page. The animated reconstruction of the flight was good. But what was exceptionally outstanding is the Radio Telephony (RT) of the New York Air Traffic Controller. It is unbelievable that Controllers can be so cool and so professional.

RT of Capt. Sully is also good. Capt. Sully must be thinking one thousand things in his mind, trying to assess whether he can return to La Guardia or go to some other crash site, how to avoid the population, will any one of his engines relight, (every pilot would do that as the first action and Sully also says that in the interview). While thinking so many things, when ATC talks to you, it is natural to start talking whatever is going on in your mind. Like "my number 2 engine is picking up only till such and such RPM, my speed is this much. i don't have electrical (or hydraulic) power to lower my flaps etc.. Instead of talking he just says "UNABLE". Very good discipline.
Equally impressive is that Aeroflot pilot. In the animated video you can see that Capt Sully has stopped responding to the controller call when his plane is line up to ditch on the river. That must be because Sully has lost height and all the high rise buildings in between him and the ATC would have prevented him from hearing the Controller. (The animation has used the Voice Recorder in the ATC, not Sully's plane and that is why we can hear the Controller). You can hear the controller cooling clarifying to the rescue team that the aeroplane has lost both engines, telling that the aeroplane has disappeared from the radar scope at such and such
bearing and distance (so that the rescue team can proceed there). Then the Controller turns his attention to the Aeroflot and tells aeroflot to turn 310 or so. the Aeroflot pilot acknowledges and then tells (so very important call) that he can see US Airways plane go into River Hudson. There is nothing as important as knowing the exact crash site.

His only choice was.... down, and thanks to God it work. If the water wasn't so ice cold, there was a chance the plane would not have stayed a float.
