Hyundai recalling Sonata sedans in U.S.
Filed under: Recalls, Transportation, In the News
Sonata model year 2011 sedans manufactured between Dec. 11, 2009, and Sept. 10, 2010, are subject to the recall, says the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Hyundai Motor America told the NHTSA it is voluntarily initiating a safety recall of Sonata sedans to inspect the steering issues.
Hyundai says there have been under 10 cars with the steering issues, and no accidents or injuries have occurred as a result of this condition. The recall is expected to begin in October, according to the NHTSA, which opened a preliminary probe into steering issues on the model in August.
Toyota has recalled more than 8 million vehicles worldwide in the past year for defects including pedals that got stuck on floor mats.

I owned a Hyundai Excel GLS in the early 90's. I was tired of it stalling out on busy highways. Everyone of my mechanic friends still say KIA's and Hyundai's are throw-away cars. They look nice, but so do Ford's, GM vehicles, and Chrysler's. The American consumer is still convinced that Japanese and S. Korea cars are superior in quality and design. With the latest major recalls from every Asia manufacturing is bringing the truth out? The Big 3 matched Japanese quality and reliability several years, but people still buy too many imports and send profits overseas. We look around and see the worst economy in 70 years and fail to look at our own buying habits. Growing up, I can't remember anyone defending a foreign company like we do now.

I've owned a Hyundai Santa Fe for 10 years, has over 200k miles and the only thing I've replaced are brakes,of course, and a serpertine belt. I change the oil on a regular basis. It's very dependable , mine was built in Korea. I owned 3 Ford' and 2 GM's prior to the Hyundai.

Hyundai is the same corporation that ran ads during The World Cup demeaning the Catholic Eucharist. Christians would be wise to consider the weight of their purchasing power when dealing with a corporation that mocks our sacraments..

No surprise. The question is, if a Hyundai motorist is driving in an area without Hyndai dealerships, and a problem develops, where does the motorist go for immediate help? He can't go to an independent because independent repairers CAN'T repair vehicles with computers completely. The driver is out of luck. Yet, ALL of the car companies are trying to kill a pro consumer bill in Congress called Right to Repair Act, HR 2057 and S. 3181. It allows motorists to choose where and by whom to have their vehicles repaired. It also stipulates that the car companies, who routinely issue SECRET AND LIMITED TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS AND SAFETY ALERTS must make those bulletins available publicly so motorists know they are driving with a safety problem. If you want to choose where you have your cars and trucks repaired, a new car dealership or an independent, log onto: www.righttorepair.org and Sign the Petition, twice: Once for your Congressman and then for your U.S. Senators. All you have to do is insert your zip code. www.righttorepair.org and Sign the Petition. It's YOUR life, YOUR money and should be YOUR choice.

Steering PROBLEM...why has the word 'issue' replaced the correct word PROBLEM??? Slowly, English is being destroyed.
Two years ago a plane made an emergency landing in Atlanta...why?... the newscaster stated that the pilot had a 'issue' with one of the engines...NOT an engine PROBLEM or engine failure...no, the pilot had an 'issue'...one more step in the DUMBING of America!!!!

Not a single recall on any of my 2 american made cars I have bouth the last 3 years. But 4 recalls on the Toyota and 2 on the Jag. Silverado has 60K miles and does not even need brakes yet, nothing but oil and air filter so far. Saturn, nothing yet either. 17 year old Vette, only repair outside normal maintence was a fuel pump. Just sold daughter's Mustang, 15 years old almost 200K miles, nothing wrong, very ilttle repairs in the 15 years we had it. Most american cars are better than the foriegn stuff now and cheaper to repair (although they rarely need it).

I purchased a 2011 Sonata and drove it to Florida the following week. The steering is so sensitive it was dangerous at highway speeds. The Florida dealer did a 4 wheel alignment which didn't help the steering problem. I had my selling dealer check it and drive the car, they responded that the car drives normally as did the Hyundai service rep. I own the car and have driven it 7000 miles and it is not normal for a car to drive as poorly as this one.The Hyundai Motors Co will not do anything more to locate and correct my cars problem, They ignore the questions in my emails and seem to have no concern in resolving my issues.
