AOL Television Editors Preview Fall TV: What to Watch, Skip & Try (VIDEO)

If TV critics were children, Fall TV would be the equivalent of back to school time -- a lot of work to do, but so much excitement. And there's always a little disappointment as you say goodbye to summer freedom, or in our case, to our happy vacation moods.
Of course the school of TV-watching is year-round, but fall is truly the time when the networks pull out all the stops (hopefully) and show us what they've got.

So sharpen your pencils, TV fans, because class is now in session: AOL TV Editor Kelly Woo and our newest addition, Lead Critic Mo Ryan, joined me to break down all the new fall network shows. Good ("it's sexy, it's fun") or bad ("I've fallen asleep three times trying to watch this pilot"), we were brutally honest because we want this to be your go-to guide for what to watch, what to skip and those shows that fall somewhere in between.
What new fall shows are you most excited for? Sound off in the comments.

"Boardwalk Empire" on HBO. Nothing on regular broadcast television's new fall lineup strikes me as particularly innovative or interesting.

I don't feel any of the new shows has grabbed me and said "Watch me!" but I'm hopeful (and wary) for Detroit 187. I lean towards cop shows with some edginess to them, but I also prefer them to have resolutions at the end of the hour - culprits caught, masked men identified, murderers sentenced, etc. That's what I hope this show brings weekly. If the stories revolve too much about the characters' individual hurdles and baggage, I may tune out quickly.
And sorry Maggie, but your reasons why you'll be watching Hellcats epitomizes the exact reasons why NOBODY ever ever ever should. Such blah! It's a cookie-cutter show that solidifies the CW's unofficial "creed" to Capitivate Women. In other words, it will likely be very successful. For a CW program, that is.
Enjoyed the recap! Nice job, ladies!

I got two new shows. Boardwalk Empire & Walking dead.
Boardwalk Empire - I LOVE STEVE BUSCEMI.
Walking dead - It got zombies and they look awesome.
No remakes, no reboots, no cop shows and no twitter shows for me. Sorry, but Nikita looks like a poorly made 90s show. The scene with the lipstick from the preview is ridiculous. Hellcats might have cheerleaders and dancing but Glee still has Jane Lynch, so I don't see me watching it.
Great discussion ladies, I hope you do more stuff like this throughout the season.

Meh,with a few exceptions its the networks & cable serving up the same old formulaic fare they've done for years.Police shows, legal shows, medical shows & sitcoms...yawn.

Are they serious when they say ABC never had a handle on the cop show? Hello, NYPD Blue. Epic fail on their part, lose some creditability.

The Good Wife and Parenthood. They are both on at the same time, Tuesdays at 10:00. Taping and watching.

Remakes. That's a big NO in my book. BSG was okay at first, but just kept going further and further away from the original. V never really caught my eye. I will give the new 5-0 a try, but will not expect much of it. As for new shows, I won't listen to the previews. I'll give them a chance by actually watching them. I just hope the idiot programming directors don't put the shows all opposite each other.

Looking forward to 5-0 I'm so ready for butt kicking cops getting a little tired of CSI type, boring no butt kicking, no hard bodies.Only place I can find hard bodies anymore is on Dancing with the stars since I refuse to pay for cable. Hope 5-0 doesn't run opposite that. Alas theres always action movies...

Here's what I don't understand. Alex O'Loughlin has already proven that he can't carry a show -- he's had the lead in two that failed. Why is he getting yet another chance? It seems like nothing succeeds like failure on network television.

His first show was really good and just prior to the "vampire craze" we're now putting up with. The entire season for everyone was interrupted by the writer's strike - it didn't have a chance. The second show was also good but transplant surgery can only be done so many times and in not too many new and interesting ways.

Moonlighting was a great show and Alex O did carry it. Unfortunately the writer's strike killed the show. I am looking forward to him in Hawaii 5-0. My opinion is the CBS wants to find a place for him because of what happened to Moonlighting.
