First Look: Mitch Pileggi Meets the Winchesters On 'Supernatural'

But once again a tasty TV morsel arrived in my email inbox and I just had to share it with my fellow 'Supernatural' addicts. It's the first photo from Season 6 of the show, which returns Fri., Sept. 24, 9PM ET on the CW. (Don't forget that the show moves to Fridays. Get those season passes in order.)
Behold Mitch Pileggi -- a.k.a. Grandpa Samuel -- with both Dean and Sam Winchester (Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki). Of course Dean met Samuel in a Season 4 episode, 'In the Beginning,' but both Winchesters will get to know their grandfather much better this season.
Pileggi, a reliably excellent character actor who has appeared on everything from 'The X-Files' to 'Sons of Anarchy,' will have a recurring role in Season 6 as a patriarch of the Campbell side of the family, which has been hunting weird and wild critters since the Mayflower landed. Corin Nemec and Jessica Heafey play other members of the Campbell clan in Season 6.
Below, you'll find the CW's description of the Season 6 premiere, 'Exile on Main Street,' which was written by executive producer and showrunner Sera Gamble and directed by Phil Sgriccia.
Here are the details on 'Exile': "It's a year later and Dean has given up hunting and is living with Lisa and her son Ben. Mysteriously freed from his cage in hell, Sam finds Dean and tells him he need to rejoin the fight and introduces Dean to a world -- a family -- he never even knew existed: the Campbells, his mother's family, lead by none other than their Grandfather Samuel."
Fun fact: When the Winchesters meet up again, Dean's a construction worker. What I really want to know is: What kind of car is he driving? Is the Impala in storage? Do I really have to wait a month to find out?
Last season, I reviewed every episode of 'Supernatural' on my previous site, and you'd better believe I'll be doing that again this year. Meet me back here Sept. 24, 'Supernatural' fans, and we'll get the Season 6 party started.

And it does, in fact, look so strange to see Dean with his shirt tucked in! :)

The tucked in shirt is a hot topic. ;D I think as soon as Dean is back hunting, the shirts will get untucked as well.

I am not sure if your into spoilers, but Gamble heavily hinted where the impala would be. IN fact, someone posted the article right here on TVsquad a few weeks back.

Maureen, I can't wait for the new season and your columns! Now, I can't wait for the explanation of how Grandpa Campbell looks exactly like he did when he died back in the 70's. :D

I think I read that somewhere. It's distressing! Argh!
More or less distressing than Dean with a tucked-in shirt -- discuss!

Hi Mo! Nice to see a blog from you.
That photo is a tasty morsel. Wow, Dean has changed - they weren't kidding at SDCC that Dean would start tucking in his shirts. :D Will be nice to see Mitch Pileggi again! I am very skeptical on how Grampy is alive, yet stayed absent since YED knifed him in the guts in 1973, but presumably there'll be some good explanation for why he lived, and also abandoned his daughter and her family knowing what he knew about the supernatural world and that YED killed his wife?
At least the wait will soon be over - 4 more Fridays to go!

Grandpa has his hand planted right on Dean's angel scar. And he looks remarkable for a guy who died in the 70's. I would be offering him a holy water cocktail.

Mo I love you! All the other TV critics were giving out the same old spoilers but you're awesome and give us something new. Thank you!!!! I love it how Supernatural fans can describe the most profound difference in Dean's character with 'his shirt is tucked in'. LOL
If Dean is a construction worker, I think he will be driving a truck. *sob* Poor Impala...
I'm so confused how can the boys meet Grandpa when he was killed by the YED. Mary wasn't allowed to make a deal to bring back her dad so how can he be alive. The only explaination I can think of is that some other Campbell family member was allowed to make a Crossroads deal and then it's only a question if the deal was made just recently or shortly after Samuel died. I'm so excited!

This show has never been known for its attention to detail or grasp of continuity, but still . . . I hope they explain the fact that Grandpa Supernatural would be in his 80s now in real-time. I cannot hand-wave anymore plot holes for this show - I ran out of hand waves way back in season 3 with Ruby.

How did grandpa come back, huh? Hmmm. Weird, how Sam always seems to be around when stuff like this happens.

Mo, as a loyal reader of your old column, I was hoping to follow you to this one. Is there any way to subscribe to the RSS feed of ONLY you? I tried subscribing and Google Reader predicts I will receive 283 posts per week. Literally, that's what it said.
I like you Mo, but not that much. Tell me there's another way.

"gets out of hell" - he was already out - he was looking in on Dean at the end of last season's finale - do they explain?
