This is the Skype API Plugin for Pidgin/libpurple/Adium. If you're already running Skype, you can have your Skype contacts displayed with your Pidgin/libpurple/Adium contacts. It is intended as a complete replacement for the Skype user interface, hopefully everything you can do in Skype you can do with this plugin.

This plugin is Free to use and modify the source code, however it was started because of the large bounty placed on it. So far I have not received this bounty so if you like it as much as I've liked coding it, perhaps you'll consider making a donation? You can either send money using Skype (not through the plugin), or by PayPal from the button on the left. Donations will be put towards web-hosting fees as well as used for testing some of the paid services of Skype. A big thank you to the people who have made a donation.
Skype 4 for Windows will open chat windows even when in silent mode. Change this setting to fix this issue
Jakub Szypulka has made up some awesome tangofied Skype icons that you can use, under the creative commons 3.0 licence. Just grab the skype_icons.zip zipfile from above and extract them to your pixmaps/pidgin/protocols/ directory. (The icons are already part of the deb and exe packages)
Andrei Neculau has made an emoticons pack that has the original Skype emoticons (as well as the other IM's). You can grab it from here.

Since this plugin is a 'derivative work' of libpurple, it is released under the GPLv3 licence
Isn't it against the GPL to interface with proprietry software? No, I believe not. Although this plugin can never be used in a Free (as in freedom) World, the GPL allows communication with proprietary software. The FSF seem to agree with me on this point.
