Pelikan M640 Sahara
Swirls of desert sand, blazing sun and rippling wave patterns mark the Sahara.
You can almost feel the heat coming off the barrel of this pen. These colors are as accurately depicted here as we can on a computer screen.
We are noticing a trend, if two examples can be called a trend, toward natural phenomena; water and wind. The Pelikan Niagara, released in early 2007, represents falling water, with rushing lines against deep blue. Where the Niagara pen is cool, this one is hot, embodying reflected light off moving hills of sand.

We like that this pen uses the full range of M600 18K nibs.
Although only available from most retailers in Fine, Medium and Broad nibs, we can increase this range to include
Extra-Fine, Double Broad, Oblique Medium, Oblique Broad and Oblique Double Broad. Of course these nibs can also be customized here to special tips of your preference.
The barrel is made from lacquer over engraved metal which gives a new twist to the engraving patterns that were widely used in pen manufacturing during the early part of the 20th century. Preserved by a clear coating that protects and reflects, this form of guilloche represents the movement of wind on sand.

We received this email from a customer on December 7th, 2007 about the Pelikan Sahara:
“…
As for the Sahara, it is an amazing pen.  Very much to my taste.  I filled it with J Herbin's Ambre de Birmanie ink and love the look with the pen and medium stub nib.  The pen writes wonderfully.  The feel is just like the Niagara Falls, substantial and smooth.  I like the Niagara Falls.  The blue is a beautiful color and I like the image of silver water, but for me the execution in the pen is missing something.  It's not with the Sahara.  The yellow and shimmery amber colors are gorgeous, the etching of the barrel really evokes the feel of wind on sand, and together they make a truly unique and stunning pen.  Some pens grow on you and some you just love from the start.  The Sahara is definitely one of the latter.

Many thanks for two more beautiful pens and nibs that write so smoothly and enjoyably.  It is always such a pleasure to buy pens and customized nibs from you. …

All the best,
Aimee
