Hello there

I recently started playing pro mode and i would like to ask for your help to sort out a couple of things.

First of all i did everything(i think) from the newbie document from promode.org

I try to practise playing in clan arena mode but i cannot see the ra3 levels.At first when i went to the Clan arena mode i didnt see any levels appearing.After i copied the Ra3 files into the Base directory i can only play the Q3DM6 the RA3 maps just appear with the Quake arena symbol and they are unplayable.Any ideas why this is happening?
Furthermore can you please tell me the command to disable self damage(so i can practise like playing on line)
Also do you think it is ok to autoswitch weapons or is it lame?
What do you thing is good mouse settings to play(acceleration, sensitivity etc)?
Is there a way to disable grenade launcher(so i can go directly to the shotgun when i change form the rocket launcher)?
Are there any configuration that i can download that tackle only with mouse, internet and weapon issues and not display issues?
Do you have any suggestions to make so i can improve my game play (any commands maybe...apart from practising :PPP)

I know i ask to may questions but i will appreciate if you could help me on these issues.

Please excuse my bad English(not my mother tongue).

Thank you in advance.

BTW any other Greeks here?

I would advise you to have individual weapon binds for each gun, like space bar for rocket launcher, r for railgun etc, with cpma's quick weapon changes this is really important imo.

I use accel 0, and sensitivity 6. These values are different for different mice, fps and fov's though. Some people like different acceleration, fov and sensitivity for different guns.

I am not sure what you mean by autoswitching, but if you mean automatically changing to a gun when you pick it up, I would advise against it, very irritating when you're trying to rail someone and a rocket launcher comes up just as you are about to shoot just because you walked onto it.

Look in the cpma\docs\ directory. I also think arqons cfg should be in cpma\cfg\

disabling selfdamage is done by writing /callvote selfdamage 0

I am not sure, but I think you have to run a dedicated server to run multi arena maps like the ra3 maps. It's that way in ra3 too.

Most commands are a matter of taste, some people like some things, some people don't.

Howdy, and welcome. :)

->Not sure why you can't choose the RA3 maps like that,
although mine don't even show up in that menu. You don't
have to run a dedicated server to choose them, as you can
just type the name into the console (/map ra3mapX), but
running a dedicated server would be best if there are going
to be other people there.

->Autoswitching the weapons will just annoy you down the
road. I think most people would recommend turning it off.

->Mouse settings are completely up to you. In CPMA, it's
very handy to be able to turn a great distance without
moving your mouse a lot. My /sensitivity is set to 25 with
a Microsoft Intellimouse Optical on an Everglide
mousepad. Acceleration is evil: use it at your own risk.

->Like voodoochopsticks said, bind each weapon to its own
key or mouse button. I'm set up like this:
z = gauntlet
w = machine gun
c = bfg (cause I never use it)
g = grenade launcher
mouse1 = +attack
mouse2 = rail
mouse3 = rocket launcher
mouse4 = plasma gun
mwheelup = shotty
mwheeldown = lightning gun

My movement keys are SDFE, and spacebar is jump. You
probably don't want to use this set up, but it will give you
some idea of what you can do.

Other than all that, just ask people in #promode on ETG if
you want more help or commands or whatever. Also, on
http://www.challenge-tv.com there are a bunch of configs
under the menu 'Site Features' on the right side.

Ah yes, I suppose that would work better. :) My brain must
still be booting up...

Shit, I should idle there, too. Nobody ever talks in the one on
ETG.

Thank you for your replies.

When i try to run /map ra3mapX
I get the message ra3mapx.bsp(for all of them)
Any ideas?

Thanks onyx.I think i got the idea how to assign the weapons although its gonna take me some time to get used to it since pro mode is no kidengarden(like simple quake arena).

By autoswitching i meant that (for example) i fire with rocket launcher and then automatically change weapon to rail.

I have a logitech mx500. I think by playing i'll find which settings are best for me.

Yes i am aware of #promode on quakenet. I asked a couple of questions there a couple of moths ago.

Again thank you for your prompt replies.

The autoswitching sort of depends on your intention. If you just want - like you said - fire rocket and then switch back to rail then thats OK by me. The autoswitch scripts which are NOT liked are the ones which switch you back to Gauntlet/MG to deny people weapon drops.

Generally it's better to control all weapon switches, automation on the assumption your rocket hits and RG is the correct weapon to finish them off will be wrong more often than it's right. Get used to individual weapon binds.

> RA3 maps just appear with the Quake arena symbol and they are unplayable

means you don't have them in the right place/state, i.e. as PK3's in /baseq3. You'll know when you DO have them right, because (a) you'll see the levelshots, and (b) they'll work. :P

I've got all of them in the baseq3 directory and all of the with pk3 extensions.
But still nothing happens.
Do you think their maybe a conflict with quake arena 1.16?

I have installed quake 1.11 in program files/quake upagraded to 1.32 and by using Qfx Q3 version switch i play the 1.16 version.

p.s I couldnt play the RA maps even when i just had one installation.

I have installed quake 1.32 (for promode) in program files/games/quake.

Do you think there mght be a conflict? I dont think there is,but maybe you think otherwise.......any thoughts would be helpfull.
