Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus yesterday called on Japanese Crown Prince Naruhito and Princess Masaka at the imperial palace. Professor Yunus's concept of social business and its potential role in solving some of society's pressing problems in Japan, Bangladesh and elsewhere were discussed at the meeting, said a message received here from Japan last evening. Princess Masako had long been interested in meeting Professor Yunus, who has been a long time friend of her father Justice Hisashi Owada, a former diplomat. Justice Owada and Professor Yunus both served in the board of United Nations Foundation funded and chaired by Ted Turner of CNN. Earlier, Professor Yunus met the Prime Minister of Japan Naota Kan at his residence. During the meeting, the prime minister showed interest in social business concept of Professor Yunus, the message said. They also discussed the existing partnership between Grameen and Japan and also possibility of future collaborations. The prime minister also expressed happiness over Japanese foreign aid agency JICA's interest in social business concept of Professor Yunus, the message said. |
