As for food, it depends whether the label says [use by] or [best before] and even if it is past the [best before] date it would depend on the type of food, dry stuffs are a-ok with me.

I'd let her change in my room as long she doesn't touch any of my figures with her wet hands. She can touch me with her wet hands though :D

I always throw all food items that have passed their 'best before' date. Can't afford to get myself sick especially during college.

As far as I know, only Japan's leaders have the guts to step down when they know they're not doing a good job. In my country, we have to force our leader to step down either through peaceful protests (People Power) or coups.

Our country is more into basketball then football so we currently have basketball fever right now. I'm not really up to date when it comes to sports because I don't find them exciting to watch. Maybe I'd watch if it's a martial arts tourney.

Danny, you said you don't feel you've achieved anything substantial in your life yet but I think most of us here would disagree with that. You've made your dream to live and work in Japan a reality and to many of us here that share your dream, that is quite substantial. I don't think its healthy to have a goal of doing something substantial in life. I believe its better to live ones life the way one wants to and enjoy it while the time lasts.

Still love reading A Week in Tokyo even when I haven't been to the site in a while. Hope you do an introduction to your new daughter!

Also, that is a lot of iDevices o_o I've played with the iPad a bit and really enjoy it! It looks good especially for portfolio purposes. I'm still contemplating on getting an iPhone for myself. I think at this rate, I may end up getting one, especially since I have a tendency to hog the boyfriend's iPhone to check my Twitter, foursquare etc.

Come to think of it, I haven't bought any Japanese snacks in a while. They're costly around here :< Buying green tea Kit Kat was so expensive yet delicious at the same time T_T

Yes, she is a cutie!!! You need to start taking pictures of your new 50cm girl. She has much more freedom of movement than a DD and the magnets in her feet will be very helpful. Trust me on this. WIN.

You will find that imported Japanese snacks are quite reasonable if you go there. There is a Marukai and a Nijiya in Little Tokyo. Also, our version of Family Mart, "Famima!!" (yes, the exclamation points are part of the name) has them for reasonable prices. https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Famima!! As you can see from the Wikipedia link, Famima!!, owned by FamilyMart Japan, is struggling here. They are taking a last stand here though...they are coming to Union Station. We will actually have Ekiben, in a manner of speaking, for the first time in the US. Yay!

1 day or so is acceptable for hard cookies, but usualy its best to throw them out, if you have some slight insight in food chemistry, then you'll understand that "best before" is for a reason and there is praticaly no exceptions.

Nice post with many great pictures, gosh, all those Japanese foods look so yummy. Last year, I took back home bunch of UCC can coffee which had characters from Evagelion Ha movie since I saw it in the theater and liked it so much :) But it was really hard to take them since you are not allowed to take liquid stuffs inside the air plane and they add some weight since I took about 10 cans...

Danny, you should bring some Japanese food to Anime Expo to munch on since they will be expensive here like they do in UK ^^;

It's delicious, but very uniquely seafood-esque and savory. Also imagine the Worcestershire sauce they usually use on it. Very savory octopus dish. Do not expect anything too fishy or too dainty here. Delicious in its own way!

Too true, Japanese snacks cost so much here! (cries) £3.99 for a pack of strawberry flavoured pocky. Dolls and figurines are too dear too; unless you pay those cheap, Americanise versions of anime characters and they are just no fun.

Alcohol flavoured soft drink? Why not just drink alcohol? I mean alcohol tastes vile. I believe people any drink it for the buzz (haha, I sound weird. Behold the only non-drinker this side of the U.K).
