If there was any doubt that the referee made the wrong decision in disallowing Frank Lampard's World Cup goal today, virals sweeping the internet have put it to rest.

Within hours of England's disastrous 4-1 loss, the internet was awash with references to the controversial decision, including one doctored image featuring a white line showing just how far the ball had made it past the goal posts.

Another prankster on social networking site Twitter, with a user name of 'Queen UK', tweeted: 'Find out where that referee is from. And get MI6 on the phone.'

Virals

England fans at home and in South Africa reacted furiously to the decision to disallow Lampard's goal, while referee Jorge Larrionda and his assistants left the field at half time to a chorus of boos.

Mark McGraw, 46, a ground worker from Eastwood in Nottingham, said: 'It's a joke. The linesman was half way up the pitch. They're trying to get us back for '66.'

Richard Carter, 37, a professional gambler from Shaw in Oldham, said: 'I'm sitting a hundred yards away and it was definitely in.

'I would like to know what the referee and linesman were looking at. They clearly weren't watching the game.'

Another fan chipped in: 'We need a Russian linesman.'

TV presenter Jonathan Ross was likewise left dumbfounded by the disallowed goal.

'That was so far in even I could see it without my lenses in!!,' he tweeted.

"Rooney appears either not to know the words of his National Anthem. Or not to have sufficient pride in his country to even attempt to mouthe them."

Judging by the vacant look on his face half of the time, I'm not sure he can construct basic sentences, let alone memorise the words to his national anthem.

My wife should be delighted that the team are coming home.

Only yesterday she was at the garden centre looking for something expensive and self-fertilising to decorate a patch of grass.

The World Cup refs appear to be of low quality. The only international soccer, er, football that most of us here in America watch is the World Cup once every 4 years, but the bad officiating coupled with the lack of video review and lack of official accountability deters potential new fans in America from having any interest in following the sport.

It makes me laugh - every 4 years the English become deusional, believing that this is the year they'll win. The press goes mental, retailers start selling everything with a red cross on it people take it so seriously. England never win. They're not good enough. Just accept it and enjoy the other matches. It's probably good fun to watch if you ignore the hype about England winning.

To Emma, London- You are sooooo right, the England players are overpaid, overfed, overpampered(remember the whinging about the training hotel). The player`s WAGs could have done a better job. I see Ashley Cole(Sky News Monday 28/6/2010) was laughing his head off as he landed at Heathrow-another few thousand in the bank -not bad for no work!
Come on Germaneee
