Default Powered USB Port

The powered USB port on the left side of the unit has a small circular aperture next to the usb (right hand side). I've not seen any cabling device that would go into this. All the info I've seen on browsing the web talks about USB+Power or PoweredUSB both of which appear to have cabling with a double-decker type connection. Can some kind soul resolve my query?

It's an old HP standard of some kind. I've actually seen an image of the cable some place on this board. But I can't seem to find it(I'm sure it was in one of the contest threads) Though here is an ebay auction for one.
HP USB MULTIBAY CABLES NEW P/N 281854-002
My apologies for those who find this link months from now when the ebay auction is long gone.

As far as I can tell, in the Mini-note this port is completely vestigial. The plug hole has no power source inside. it's just there to accommodate the plug pin.

Evil Genius - "WRONG" - I've now acquired a supply of these cables (i also have 3 spare) and they do indeed utilise power from the mininote. I tested this by plugging in the special USB cable to my mininote and then ONLY plugging the barrel tye power connection (without the mini USB connection)into my external DVD drive and it powered it to open and close.
I will be listing the other 3 sets on ebay for my UK chums (search under
HP2133 powered USB cable.

You're mistaken chaz. I've had my note taken completely apart. There is no internal contact of any kind for the large side pin on this cable. When the cable is inserted that pin touches nothing but air. The pin does NOTHING but restrict where a person might plug the cable into. It does not supply additional power.

All of the power and data is handled through the 4 contacts on the USB connection.

Additionally, while my tracing is incomplete at this point. I've yet to find anything special about the left port on the mini 2133. As far as I can tell the two ports have identical power envelopes.

I'd be interested to see someone try a cdrom or other device that requires this special plug on the right side plug using a usb extension cable to circumvent the pin.

Evil, I'm sorry but it is YOU who is incorrect. According to a document released by HP, the circle next to the USB port is indeed extra power for a MultiBay device.

Just my 2 cents.

Next time keep your 2 cents to yourself

The documentation is quite clear here. The ENTIRE port provides power. But it doesn't claim that the extra pin is the source of said power.
The actual electricity is coming over the standard +5 line on the usb.

For the last time. I've had my 2133 down to the bare components. THERE IS NO POWER LEAD TO MAKE CONTACT WITH THE LARGE EXTERNAL PIN. See for youself:

The metal plate that covers the top of the USB connector is attached the system's common ground.

You've misread what the documentation has said. If you still don't believe me take out your multimeter(you do have one right?) and check for yourself.

Since the cable is electrically the same, there is just more amperage available on that port is there any way to force this higher amount of current through a standard cable? I ask because my phone (Blackberry Storm) charges at 750mA through the USB AC adapter, but only 500mA through the USB data cable. It'd be nice to cut my charging time by a third.

Its even more obvious on the HP2140. With the motherboard in the case the hole connects to nothing on the inside. The USB connector does not include anything for the item being put through the hole to connect to. With the motherboard outside of the case both USB connectors are identical. In fact there is only space on the motherboard where this hole would be. So even if you inserted a cable as shown above there would be nothing attached to the single prong connector, only the USB male connector part of the cable.
