Why is everything so expensive here?
As much as 133JPY for an 8 slice loaf of bread? Someone's buttering their biscuits at your expense.
500JPY for what equates to a large slice of watermelon, when in America for example, you could get an entire large watermelon for the same price. Does Japan not have the land to grow its own watermelon? And if what is sold here, is grown here...You're being ripped off.
Almost 100JPY for one ear of corn? That price would get 4 ears in the U.S.
Milk for as much as 150JPY a quart?
Some crazy brand of maple syrup almost 700JPY for a small bottle
I could go on and on ad nauseam but there's no point.
The purpose of this is twofold. To hopefully be enlightened, and to provide those Japanese who don't know any better, with a frame of reference. It is not my intent to bash Japan or make the United States of embarrassment look like something special; however, when I glance at Japanese T.V. and see nothing but game shows, a few soaps, and an abundance of food, auto and electronics commercials...I can't help but wonder what the Japanese people aren't being told.
Maybe ignorance truly is bliss; for after all, for as nice as most people here are, most seem pretty docile when you should be PISSED!
