Bowls of this pattern were produced during the 18th century and reflect the fascination for motifs and forms of archaic bronzes at the Imperial court. Compare two related Yongzheng-marked bowls, both enamelled yellow with the moulded dragon elements in green enamel, the first sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 23 May 1978, lot 168; and the other illustrated by J. Ayers, Far Eastern Ceramics in the Victoria and Albert Museum, Kodansha series, 1980, no. 211, from the Gulland gift. A third example, enamelled with turquoise-glaze highlighting the archaistic dragon band, was included in An Exhibition of Important Chinese Ceramics from the Robert Chang Collection, 1993, and illustrated in the Catalogue, p. 235, no. 112.
