Dr Ismail Hussein Receives Culture Award From Japanese Newspaper
KUALA LUMPUR, April 2 (Bernama) -- Federation of Malay Writers Associations (Gapena) head 1 Tan Sri Prof Emeritus Dr Ismail Hussein has been awarded the Seikyo Culture Award by Japanese newspaper Seikyo Shimbun.
The award is given to figures responsible for spreading culture, education and world peace, Gapena said in statement here on Friday.
Dr Ismail received the award from Soka Gakkai International (SGI) deputy president Hiromasa Ikeda at Seikyo Shimbun head office in Tokyo yesterday.
Hiromasa was representing Seikyo Shimbun honorary president Dr Daisaku Ikeda. Malaysian ambassador to Japan Datuk Md Som Shaharuddin was also present.
Dr Ismail then presented the Gapena International Poet Award to Dr Daisaku Ikeda for his poetry contribution for environment conservation and world peace.
Dr Daisaku Ikeda who is also president of SGI is the first international figure to receive the Gapena award.
Seikyo Shimbun (Seikyo Press) newspaper has a circulation of 55 million copies daily.
