Nice that he apologized, but of course it is his personal opinion, he said it in a forum where he felt he would be unobserved and thus felt free to be himself. Actually, for the most part I'm not too fond of anime either, but I wouldn't phrase my opinion in terms of nuclear warfare even in the most casual or private setting and in fact I wouldn't even wish for it not to exist. Everyone has their own taste, and anime is certainly harmless enough, if people like it let them go for it.
