A RARE MOTHER-OF-PEARL-INLAID BLACK LACQUER DISH
POSSIBLY RYUKYUAN, 15TH-17TH CENTURY
With shallow rounded sides, the center decorated with a central mallow blossom surrounded by six roundels enclosing different flower sprigs separated by ribbon-tied babao, below four flower sprays in shaped cartouches reserved on a wan diaper ground in the well, with further cartouches of flower sprays on a diaper ground on the exterior, the recessed base lacquered red
8 1/8 in. (20.7 cm.) diam.
Please note that this lot has two Japanese wood boxes and additional provenance. The inner box bears the Masuda Takashi (1848-1938) collection label.
