A BRONZE ELLIPTICAL BOWL AND COVER
LATE SPRING AND AUTUMN PERIOD, 6TH CENTURY BC
The body rising from a flat base, flat-cast at the shoulder and again on the cover with a band of intertwined dragons, the bodies alternately filled with feathers or granulation, with petal-shaped panels filled with intertwined serpents reserved on a granulated ground pendent from the band on the bowl, which is also applied with a pair of loop handles inset on top with malachite inlay, the cover with four later-added, recumbent mythical beasts alternating with engraved stags
7½ in. (19 cm.) long
