Once and For All? Lutz text message reportedly confirms Cadillac Converj is dead {Autoblog}
Mar 17th 2010 2:16PM Tourian:
By sales, Cadillac makes mostly V6s. They have V8s in some cars, but they aren't big sellers. The only big selling V8 is the Escalade and it's not a car.
You got me on the 320HP V8 I guess, but I got you too, Cadillac doesn't have a 3.5L DI engine, it's a 3.6L DI engine.
I'm not saying Cadillac sucks, but they aren't competing with BMW strongly right now. They need to kick it up a notch to compete with the 335i (which is 330HP, not 300HP like the 3.6 DI).

Mar 17th 2010 2:12PM I assumed my man card was invalidated when I bought a wagon. A sweet wagon with 304HP and the moniker "Sport Wagon" despite not having a loud exhaust!
I just don't see why cars need to have loud exhausts on the street.

Mar 17th 2010 1:14PM There's nothing wrong with the Corvette interior right now. They did put money in it, they did put a decent interior in (esp. with the cut and sew option) and to no avail. It's the same thing as the electronic dash from the C4. Reviewers just felt it was de rigeur to crap on it. Even after GM improved it significantly. Going out it was better than the S2000 electronic dash ever was but the Corvette dash caught all the crap and reviewers rarely if ever dumped on the S2000 dash.
And you pick the Cobalt out of that list I put up there because it didn't change the interior in any significant fashion. It was not my only example.

Mar 17th 2010 12:55PM Ford has done a very good job pushing PR messages through social media. Not much we can do with it other than watch the "new media" turn into the old media before our eyes. Ford really was smart to realize that internet blog sites like AB are under as much financial pressure as magazines and don't have money for a lot of original research, so if you provide free/cheap content for them, they'll print it.
Look at it this way, at least we didn't see "reports", "leak" and official announcement articles for this within 12 hours like we do for many things. Like the Ford Police Interceptor "breaking" at 8:10A with 3 pics, then another story for the official announcement at 12:31P, then video at 7:29P. 3 stories, 11 hours. And I don't mean to single out Ford here, running up to auto shows, every manufacturer is doing this and AB runs each as a separate story. If AB doesn't start combining stories, manufacturers will start dribbling out info in 12 parts over 2 days trying to keep the top story spot for as long as possible.

Mar 17th 2010 12:45PM Yes, I want it to have the same exhaust. It's not a race car, you don't need to hear the engine to select shift points. It's a crossover, you load the kids in the back and go to the mall with it, not to the track.

Mar 17th 2010 12:43PM It's not a bad thing, but I didn't say it was a good thing. I just said it did. And it's far from alone.
The Ecotech is good, they just changed the engine every other year because they had a new one. They'd make a new variant to improve efficiency and presumably cut costs.
It started with a 2.0L base engine and 2.4L high-end engine. Then the 2.2L supercharged SS came along. Then the base engine went to a 2.2L, then the 2.0L turbocharged SS came along, then the base engine was a revised 2.2L. Each change added more power and fuel economy, which isn't a bad thing.
How about the A4? Started with a 180HP 2.8L or 150HP 1.8T. Then the 1.8T went to 165HP and the 2.8L to 190HP. Then the 1.8T went to 180HP and the 250HP 2.7T (S4) came along. All over about 6 years. Meanwhile the interior center stack changed immensely (went from single-DIN radio to double-DIN, among other things, new instrument cluster) new door handles and fenders, plus new front and and a rebadging on the rear.
It happens all the time. I'm not saying this one isn't a good upgrade or anything, just asking really is this upgrade out of the ordinary?

Mar 17th 2010 12:25PM Why do you need a "sport exhaust" if you're already making 300HP in a crossover anyway?

Mar 17th 2010 12:18PM It's still a mid-cycle refresh. You think companies were above changing engines or adjusting the interior before? Look at the first gen A4 (I mean the one that was never badged a 90 in the US). Or the corresponding A6. Look at the first gen CTS. The Cobalt had at least 5 engines in it in 6 years!
This is a fine update I'm sure, but is it really extraordinary?
