Falcon Heene was, says KUSA and MSNBC, reportedly the boy stuck in a hot air balloon. (UPDATE: IT LANDED, NO ONE WAS INSIDE, FALCON WAS AT HOME THE WHOLE TIME. IT'S A HOAX).

(UPDATE 2: Falcon Heene threw up on while appearing on Today, GMA on Friday)

Falcon, 6, is the son of Richard and Mayumi Heene of Ft. Collins, Colo. Richard is a storm chaser and scientist. The parents were on "Wife Swap" and returned for a second appearance on the 100th episode, so information on the family is online. They apparently sleep in their clothes so they can leap from bed and run after a storm.

Falcon has two older brothers, Bradford and Ryo.

On MSNBC's 'The Ed Show' Thursday, the wife who swapped into the Heene family for two weeks in March recalled rambunctious boys, who swore a lot and and burped and farted as they pleased. They also loved to please their father Richard, who was very particular about his science experiments, she said. None of the Heene family was very nice to her during her time there.

The boys have been stuck in a storm before. From a 2007 article on their dad:

The Heenes had a close call July 12 when they found themselves in the midst of a tornado in Buckeye.

"I think I have odd kids. They start screaming with excitement," Richard Heene said.

According to tv.com, the family was known for their risk taking. An LA Times articles says "The Heene family, with its three rowdy boys, is anchored by father Richard, whose anger arrives in sudden bolts between his fringe science projects."

The ABC site says the family is "science-obsessed" (more on the dad's science and magnetism interests here) and wrote the below for their 2nd appearance:

When the Heene family aren't chasing storms, they devote their time to scientific experiments that include looking for extraterrestrials and building a research-gathering flying saucer to send into the eye of the storm. In this ultimate swap, the Heenes swap lives with a psychic mom who speaks to the dead and can control the weather, her husband and her children -- who believe they are destined to be stars. This show will feature aliens, punk rockers, past-life regression and, for the first time ever, the children from the two families will face off in a kids' table meeting. "Heene/Silver," the 100th episode of Wife Swap, destined to become a classic!

Story continues below

Below is the family description for their first appearance:

Wife Mayumi (43) and storm scientist Richard (45) take their three kids, Bradford (8), Ryo (7) and Falcon (5), out of school to go on storm chasing missions to prove Richard's theories about magnetic fields and gravity. If conditions are right, Mayumi wakes her family by shouting "Storm Approaching, Storm Approaching!" into a bullhorn. The family sleep in their clothes so they can leap out of bed and into the storm-mobile. Richard calls Mayumi his 'ninja wife'; she maintains equipment, drives the storm-mobile, films tornadoes and waits with the kids while Richard jumps on his motorbike, heads into the eye of the storm and launches rockets to measure magnetic forces. At home the family are as chaotic as a twister: the kids have no table manners and throw themselves around the house, and while Richard devotes every moment to his research, he expects Mayumi to cook, clean and run the house without any help.

Cool family. I'm really glad that kid wasn't in that balloon. The kids' music video reminds me a little of Beasty Boys. The dad's harmonica riffs were slightly reminiscent of Robert Plant in "You Shook Me".

while reading some of these comments, i see some people think that the parents should have their kids taken away from them. Why would they want that to happen? If there was an incident when one of the children got seriously injured because of the way the parents were raising them, then yes. Being in a dangerous home life is not smart. Parents should keep an eye of the children, me being a babysitter alone, i wont let the kids CLIMB THE ROOF! I'm happy that i'm being raised in a good BAPTIST home, and I'm just fine. I dont feel like I'm missing out on any fun and believe my life will turn out better than those who live in a non-religious environment. I take pity on these kids but do not believe they should be taken away from the parents that love them

Seeing the Heenes on WIFE SWAP once, there was no reason to see 100th episode. Is WIFE SWAP a farce? Heenes were either a sham from the start or they should be arrested for child endangerment.

Ok, be strange; sleep in clothes; take off school for something parents believe to be educational-but chasing tornadoes?

Wonderful! Kids enthusiastic about what their parents do. Fabulous! Parents who take an interest in their children. But when the average person fears for their life, taking refuge to protect themselves and their children from the threat of a tornado...doesn't it stand to reason that doing the opposite is unreasonable?

Should the zoo keeper be able to bring his kids into a hungry, wild lion's den just to see what will happen next? Can the extreme sportsman put his child on his back as he ski's off a cliff? Can somebody tell me, is there such a thing as a "safe distance" from a tornado?

Women can be arrested for disciplining their children with a slap on the butt, these people are allowed as well as encouraged to just take their kids and pretty much hop over train tracks at a bottom of a hill with a runaway train.....stay tuned folks, maybe the train will come to a miraculous halt, or maybe it will jump the tracks, or the kids will be off the tracks only to vanish beneath freight cars that are toppling over, or maybe we just worry too much.

It's absolutely impossible not to suspect these parents of staging this. Not only did this whole drama focus the entire media circus on the father, but there is now a perfect story: the father 'scolded' the boy, therefore the boy ran and hid in a safe, impossible to discover location, while the balloon sailed away and the media replicated the father's and his family's image a million million times across the globe while vast public resources were used to 'save' the child from certain death.

What a sham! This guy is a master at manipulating people into focusing all of their attention on him. He probably considers it critical that the media be fixated on him because he's building a brand, using his family as tools, so that his Genius Scientific Experiments can be celebrated across the planet.

He has utilized the media to literally construct his identity, and now he uses it to serve his purposes.

The visiting mom from the Wife Swap episode (the chubby blond psychic from Florida) was on The Ed Show (Ed Shultz, MSNBC) and her FIRST reaction: It was a hoax for publicity. Ed pressed her on it and she said "at first" but then she thought it was genuine.

You have the wrong story. This one is entitled, "The Boy whose Father Told Him to Lie."

Have a feeling out of the mouth of babes, this just got exposed. Wolf Blitzer filled in for Larry King and asked a question. The father posed the question of whether he the boy heard them when he was hiding. The kid said yes. The father asked why he didn't come out and the kid answered "for the show". The father then seemed to stumble how to continue the interview. He recovered and answered questions whether it was a hoax. The father said no.

At the very end of the interview, Wolf asked for clarification as to the boy's response "it was for the show" and the father got totally defensive -- he was outraged they would think that. Yet he and his wife had been asked whether it was a hoax and just simply answered. He tried to say that the comment was that media had been outside asking questions and stuff -- Huh? Media wasn't there when he went and hid.

I think there is more to come on this as being there was a 911 call and for it being a missing kid, the Sheriff's Dept mentioned on camera they have to investigate.

This nutcase family is being rewarded by being on Larry King tonight. They're drama seekers.

Interview with woman who was the other one on wife swap, said this kid would jump from the ceiling on to furniture, swore all the time, had no fear of anything, would take huge risk as of course at that age he had no judgement of safety.

Child protective services on Line 1.

Question the Physics here people. That balloon couldnt lift nor carry the weight of a three year old child much less a six year old. A person that builds a alien shaped balloon is obviously seeking attention. A person that would use his/her children to gain that attention by creating fear by having their children lie to the media should be charged with all the cost incurred during this farce. The parents should also be charged with child endangerment and abuse. DONT BE CONNED PEOPLE QUESTION THE SIMPLE PHYSICS HERE>

Naw, we should pay them for the entertainment. This lasted, what, a few hours. That's like several episodes of King of Queens, with a much lower production cost (and better story line.) Just call it art and be happy.

Lower production cost -- are you_nuts too. Air Force, National Guard, Police, Fire, EMS. Just great -- the Police, Fire, EMS running around the counties while someone else's house burns down, someone had a heart attack and there is no equipment close to help.

You are_as_stupid as the family
