I haven't been keeping up with this and had the same question. It seems a lot of these cars have been on the road for a couple of years now....but now you're hearing about runaway vehicles every 2-3 days. Just seems odd.

Could be an attempt to pre-empt people trying to cash in on "runaway Toyota mania" by pretending their priuses are out of control.

That kind of thinking is in part responsible for the loss of decorum between corporate America and the public. When something goes awry, corporations are unwilling to apologize to affected families for fear that it will be used against them as an admission of some sort of guilt, even if it's a simple act of goodwill.

they can easily reach that speed. low weight, small displacement engine plus electric motor = plenty of power at any speed. its so ironic a forum full of former civic small displacement engine fanbois are giving the prius a hard time. the prius has a bigger motor than a civic not even counting the electric motor. lulz
