How to change Folder Options in Windows 7

Folder Options allows you to customize the display of the files and folders. With Folder Options you can set to:

  • Open folder in the same window or it's own window
  • Use Single-click or Double-click to open an item
  • Hide/Show hidden files, how to display icons
  • Specify search options.

Steps to change Folder options:

1. Click the Start and then choose the Control Panel option.

2. Control Panel window opens up. Click Folder Options.

3. General tab shows the Default settings for the files and folders.

Under Browse Folder, choose Open each folder in it's own window.
Under Click Items as follows, choose Single-click to open an item.
Under Navigation pane, choose Show all folders

Click Apply and Ok.

4. Click View tab, the default settings are shown as below

Under Advance settings, Click Show hidden files, folders and drives.

Click Apply and Ok to save the settings.

5. Click Search tab, to change search options.

Under What to search, click Always search file names only.
Under How to search, Check Use natural language search.

The problem is not to change default opening program

The only real good question is: how to perform custom task on a given file extension thanks to the former XP folder options \ File types tab.

Using WordPad instead of NotPad to open text files is really not an interesting topic. Everybody knows how to do that. If you've got nothing more useful to say, just don't say anything. The net is full of guys who think they can help...

Answer: you cannot because Microsoft staff is stupid and wants everybody else to behave like them: the stupid way.

So if you have a contextual menu to right click for jpeg resize, this feature is gone forever with Win7

Workaround: switch to Linux

Spot on, horheg. Also, no flames, Mice, especially toward Strider. I'm sure there are many out here who appreciate any tips they can get. I'd also like to see a series on the functional differences between XP and 7 for those trying to upgrade.
