- Hostage diplomacy against Japan by South Korea

On January 18 in 1952, the founding president of South Korea, Rhee Syngman, declared suddenly new border on the high seas and owning its Korean-side. Fishing boats of Japan in the Korean-side at that time were attacked, and 3,929 Japanese fishermen were kidnapped as the hostage. Moreover, Take-Shima islands(Liancourt Rocks) in Japan was occupied by Koreans, the hostage diplomacy was begun for unarmed Government of Japan in those days. In this case, 29 Japanese were killed.
Japan without the defense power could not help accepting all the unlawful demands of South Korea, for example, - release of Korean criminals imprisoned in Japan, - legalization of staying Korean illegal immigrants, etc. These unlawful vested rights are still kept by the Korean (illegal) residents in Japan today. |
