Ginger, your hair looks really gorgeous in the before picture, mind sharing what dye you used? happy.gif
The chocolate brown really suits you as well.

It's from a salon, so I actually have no idea what brand they used. Sorry!

damn thats pretty lols ahahaha, i'm trying to get an ashy brown colour, can you tell me what box hair dye you used? biggrin.gif
btw: you're from australia ahaha me too aussie pride wink.gif australia day soon

Haha thank you. You can't exactly achieve an entire ashy brown unless you bleach your entire hair. So thats why I got highlights so it created the look of the ashy-ness.. I'm not sure what hair dye it was because my hair was done at a Salon.

Haha yup, Australia day is today! BBQ!!

PROS?!
i was wondering if someone can help me
so i dyed my hair black a long time ago ( i know death color )
its the hardest thing to take out.
afterwards i went to a salon and they did a manicure for me
so it took out all my black and made my hair turn RED instead.
i wanted a brown shade so she dyed my hair a darker color..
however it didnt turn out right only my top was brown where everything else was black again.

2 weeks ago I went to another salon and told them my story
& they dyed my hair for me again..
first he dyed the bottom part of my hair then a half an hour later he dyed the TOP ( which was brown )
this time its STILL not perfect
the top part is brown the back of my hair is brown
& the rest is still black. so now its bloachy i have brown patches everywhere

if i go to a hairdresser does anyone know how what they will do to make my hair ONE color again?
THANKS >_<

Wow, your hair sounds dead. By the sounds of it, they didn't strip your hair entirely.. Because usually with dyed hair.. if you try to get it lighter, only the roots (cos the roots haven't been dyed y'know?) will show up and lower is just the same colour. What you can really do is gradually strip the colour using Heads and Shoulders each time you wash your hair..

Or go to another salon, one that you know will do a good job ($$$$), ask them to strip the colour again and just dye it a normal, asian dark brown and let your hair rest in peace..

Care to provide any pictures???

I've had ginger colored hair on and off for the past 6 years. This last time, it's been ginger for about 6 months but I've finally got sick of the upkeep and dyed it dark brown again. On the box (L'Oreal), it was a more chocolate brown, but this is MUCH darker than expected. Oh, well. Knowing my hair, it will fade in the next 2 weeks.

Your ginger hair suits you soooo well, no wonder why you stuck to it for years. I'm suprised you've maintained it till now, it appears SO HEALTHY.
I like yourr dark brown hair too. Envy! You seem to suit any hair style or colour. sad.gif

I need to redye my hair soon because my roots are scary xd
But I was wondering is it necessary to redye my roots first before my whole head? (instructions say to dye roots ten minutes before the ends)
And I'm wondering this because a lot of people's roots turn out lighter than their ends when they do their whole head for the first time.

You dye your roots last if you're dyeing your whole head one color from one color (like virgin hair). You dye your roots first if you have new growth that needs to match the rest of your hair. huh.gif

Hey, I've got a question: I'm thinking of dyeing my hair for the first time, but I'm pretty worried about my super sensitive scalp. Any suggestions on products, or even like just dyeing the bottom part of my hair...or something? =\

i asked this in the guys hair thread but no one responded or maybe i'm not patient enough haha..

i'm about to bleach my hair and realized that since last time i did it, my hair come out orangy... and read on google that i need 'toner' to get rid of it

i looked for it all over shoppers drug mart and couldn't find it.. does anyone know any brands and what kind of toner i need to neutralize the orange/copperness?

i have a question...and it'd be really helpful if someone replied to me hahah since nobody replied to me in the hairstyle thread...is this not the place to ask?

so i was thinking about dying my hair using the KAO Prettia Hair Dye (if you guys have seen the thread) and i wanted to use the milk tea brown:

this is my hair color:

these were taken using my cellphone camera in bathroom lighting

these were taken using my digital camera in the bathroom lighting (sorry, it was night so i couldn't take natural lighting lol)
w/o flash w/ flash

i would have to say that my hair color is in between those photos i think...because my camera makes my hair look very dark, and my cellphone makes it look pretty light...so i would say it's just somewhere in between. lots of people say my hair is kind of light for asian hair though, lol. oh, and it's never been dyed. but i do have a magic straight on it...i'm afraid of the damage...would it still be okay? because i heard this dye doesn't do as much damage as other dyes

oh, but my original question was what color do you think it'll end up to look like?

My friend dyed my hair for me on Saturday. The instructions said to leave it in for 25 minutes, but we left it in for about 40. I was aiming for more of a chocolate brown (like ginger's current color). I was wondering if the reddish brown looked okay (is it going to fade over the next few weeks?) or if I should wait a while and then dye it darker. Also, I forgot that the roots get lighter faster and we applied the dye to all of my hair (including the roots) at the same time, so now my roots are a light reddish brown, while the rest of my hair is a darker brown. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Hair color Before: Virgin Black
Hair color After: Reddish Brown (?)
Bleach?: No
Hair Dye: Salon Dyed

Changes: No changes.

Just a little story from the salon smile.gif
The first time I dyed my hair, the salon was a little frustrated with my hair, because they said that my hair is WAY TOO BLACK. So it took 2 hours to dye my hair >_<. And they had to put 2 different dyes in my hair
The 2nd time I dyed my hair (because my roots are growing), I wanted to dye it a little more lighter. They said they can't do that, because, again, my hair was too black. So, while dying my hair, my head was BURNING. I have no idea why x_x.
And this time it took 3 hours to dye it. Rawr. They also put 2 different colors in it. The results were awesome smile.gif. In fact it turned out what I wanted it to be, a little lighter, haha. They didn't know it got lighter either =P.

Wow, love your results! I have the same exact kind of DARK black hair like yours. I really really want to dye it chocolate brown or even your color right now, but I'm afraid it's going to come out weird since I have super dark hair. :/ *sigh* your so lucky! lol.

Prolly a stupid question, but
if you have black hair and you want to
dye it a lighter color, do you need
to bleach it first to get the best results?

I'm new to this kind of thing. Lmfao.
Just really curious. Hope someone can
answer me! Thank you in advance.

Your best bet is going to Sally's Beauty Supply or a store like it where they specialize in retailing beauty supplies. Every time I have gone to Sally's and had a question the people who worked there were very nice and very helpful. I told them what I wanted to do and they gave me suggestions with which brands were best for my hair as well as what supplies would be needed.

How much lighter did you want your hair to go? If it's a subtle lighter color, depending on the brand and how long you leave it in, you don't need to bleach your hair. But if you're looking for a lot lighter, like I would guess four shades lighter, you'll most likely have to bleach your hair first to get good results. When I first began dyeing my hair it was really black and very difficult to dye without first bleaching it.

I recently dyed (or i guess bleached) my hair BUT it was all an accident because my hairdresser did not know the difference of blondeblonde hair and orangey brown hair... i first had to go to a hairdresser cuz i got a straight perm which ruined my hair and it turned rly rly afro-y and frizzy so i went to get a cut and color change! ^^;;;
yeah so i showed the lady lik a lightbrown but she didnt rly didnt see it and just said u rly want it dis light? and im like yeah and she was lik u SURE U SURE? and im just lik wtf its not even tat light

To be honest, I think eyebrows darker than hair looks fine. Yes, even if you are platinum blond (of course, then you might slightly lighter brows, but you don't need to match them). The color you posted, I think you'd be fine not lightening them if you didn't want to.

Thank you for replying. ^ ^
Uhm. I want it just a tiny bit lighter- like the shade of brown that
a lot of Asian actresses have.
My hair is naturally black with a bit of dark brown here and there, but
I'm guessing that's just from the sunlight. Lol.
Anyways, I dyed it medium brown just a couple months ago and my hair
color didn't come out that great. I left the dye in for about 20 minutes and when
I got done showering I noticed the color only shows up when I'm under a really
bright light. ><
So should I dye it again with a lighter shade and leave it in longer, or should
I bleach it?
I'm so sorry for asking so many questions. I'm just really curious. Lol.

Well, to be honest, if it were me, I'd leave it in a lot longer. laugh.gif Like an hour, but I know a lot of people would discourage you from doing that because it'll really damage your hair. It all depends on whether you want to go through with the bleach or not. If you do, I think the results would be pretty good, but if you decide not to bleach your hair first you'll have to leave it in much longer than what the box tells you. Like I advised someone else, if you are really curious, you can always go to Sally's Beauty Supplies and ask someone who works there for help.

hey guys i dyed my hair back to black last summer but i'm getting sort of bored of black now. i like my hair in dark colors though.

so can anyone reccemend me a hairdye that's like a dark chocolate brown with a purplish/burgandy tint? i don't want any traces of red in it though. something like this:

harhar snsd has such pretty hair

suggestions much appreciated~ i've only use palty hairdye before but i don't like how most are red-tinted >_<
xmelody-love
Right now, my hair is like a really dark shade of brown... I'm chinese but my hair isn't like black black.
I have dyed it before to a red shade that eventually turned my hair into a lighter brown color than what my hair already is.
I'm thinking about bleaching my hair...&& no, not my whole head loll. I was thinking about just doing bleached/blonde underlights in my hair. I was wondering if any knew like the process of doing it and any bleach/dye recommendations?

Please and thank you in advance ^^

My hair is currently orange..in SUNLIGHT. In other lightings it looks golden brown
This was taken in october 2009 , so the colour has faded but not when I go outside it looks orange..
I want to dye my hair a darker colour, I don't want to go lighter..
Does anyone know know how to go from this colour to a darker colour or maybe to a brown colour instead of orange/golden brown..?

i had the same problem, dye your hair with a dye that says "ash" cause asian hair has orangey-red tones, so the ash cancels the orangey-ness.

How long do I leave the hairdye in for though ?
If I leave the hairdye in for a long time , my hair would become light right?

sad.gif It's not bad, but it you can barely notice it. I was going for more red. haha
I really want to re-dye it but my mom INSISTS that I wait a month sooooo. dry.gif sigh
I used Clairol's natural instincts (Raspberry Creme - Medium Auburn), btw. My hair was super healthy before and still is, so it didn't do too much damage. Also this is semi-permanent dye because I was scared it would come out too red, but it did the opposite! I'm planning on getting permanent dye next time.
But it's definitely not a bad dye- especially if you're going for a really natural change. It's just I was going for something a bit more noticeable. haha ^^;

hey, i have a question~
if your hair has multi-colors.. (I have blonde, orange, & red)
and I want to dye it a natural looks brown..
would my hair come out different shades
because the parts of my hair are different colors?

I've never dyed my hair before so I have a lot of questions, please bear with me...
I'm a guy and I'm thinking of dying my hair light brown so that my layers can be more noticeable. However I understand that dying your hair is really damaging to the hair. Can someone recommend me a product that's not only easy to use but the least damaging to the hair?

I was looking at the gatsby hair dyes, not sure if they're better than the typical dyes you can get from Target and walmart. I also have been looking at the kao prettia dyes from another thread, which apparently does little dmg and is less messy. On the downside, prettia seems to not dye as effectively as other brands.

what should I do?

I have somewhat virgin black hair xD..
Ive never really dyed it fully but ive highlighted it numerous times. and i wanna achieve this kinda of brown with a bit of reiddish orange tint xD... Does anyone recommend any brands and colours to get this? Im looking towards a Palty colour but im open to other brands too! Much appreciated!! ^^

basically a totally new change for the summer. 1st pic was actually a few years back, yeah years. my hair grows slow, so i can dye and perm it without having to worry as much as others about roots. it kinda sucks cause now i'm ready to bleach. my hair isnt. sad.gif

i don't recommend doing this, actually. after 2 straight perms (one failed cuz i had it done in a crap place), a complete dye, and highlights, it took TONS of different shampoos, conditioners, and LOTS of repair serums that would otherwise cost me a FORTUNE if my mom didn't own the place and i had to get all this done right out of my own wallet. it would be around $400+ total. yikes...

but in the end i have pretty hair, so i'm a happy camper ^^

trungiie
just FYI, those who are finding themselves with damaged hair..its bc all that ammonia in the box dyes. those are horribles. i admit i USED to use them. my hair is so much better now that i use professional color. honestly, why spend $7-10 to eff up your hair and then so much more to get it fixed/treated? just go get it done at the salon for $30-40.
i am fortunate to be in cosmetology school and can get professional color for cheap and i do it myself smile.gif
