I used Garnier Nutrisse #111 Extra Light Ash Blonde (White Chocolate)

Yeah. My hair color before was very dark brown with subtle hints of red, close to black.

The last dye that I used is Clairol Balsam #618 Black. This product gave me a nice natural shade of black unlike two other brands that I used in the past (I was going for the fake black look at the time). The only problem with black dye is it's quite difficult to wash off your skin.

When you got that light brown color from the "very dark brown", was that dark brown your natural color or was that also dyed? (I'm assuming dyed since you said you have hints of red, but...dunno? tongue.gif)
Because I got my hair dyed a brown-ish color at the end of June, I want to get a lighter color probably around the holidays, but my hairdresser said you can't get a lighter color over a DYED darker color. So even though my hair is black (or super dark brown, whatever) naturally and could've gotten a super light color dying undyed hair, she said I shouldn't be able to dye a lighter brown over the brown I originally got. o_o
But then she said I might as well try it, because even though it's not supposed to work, it works like that for one of her friends all the time tongue.gif

Very nice, jingjing. If that's what ash blonde looks like on black hair, I wonder what grey/silver dye would turn out like. Perhaps an ashier brown or worst case, a dark grey colour...
I wonder too. Haha. I actually want a dark gray color. Since it'll snow here soon, I'm thinking of ordering a box of FRESH LIGHT in Brilliant Ash or if I'm daring enough, Clear Ash biggrin.gif

Yup, you're correct. Hair was dyed at the time.

^ Previous hair color before going shades lighter.

I believe you can get a lighter color dyed over hair that has been previously dyed in a darker shade. Bleaching works, but I wouldn't recommend it if you're not going for a drastic change. I've personally never tried bleaching my whole head yet, but I had blonde highlights before. Very damaging. Thank you deep-conditioning treatments. I've dyed my sister's hair when her hair was dyed a dark brown color to a lighter shade. Fantastic results! But then again, everyone's hair takes in dye differently. It might just work out fine for you.

Thanks for your reply smile.gif

Yep, I definitely DON'T want to bleach my hair. I've heard nothing but bad things about bleach.

Now I just have to worry about the virgin parts of my hair (since I'll probably have a decent amount of root growth by December!) dying differently than the dyed part. o_o It would majorly suck if my roots sucked up the color and the colored part...didn't. xD So I'm still torn between just trying it myself and going to a salon =/
Searesrayne
you could just dye the dyed part longer and root part for less maybe 15 mins?(heat+dye=more color change) but if you really scared go to a salon ^__^

strange, because i dyed my hair a lighter brown (with milktea brown) over a dark brown (not my natural color) and it came out lighter! (i left it on my roots for 15 minutes first then i put it on the rest of my hair for a further 10 minutes)
and it seems like the dyed part absorbed the dye better because after a few months, the top of my head (where my roots were previously) appeared darker than the rest of my hair. but oh well it's not too noticeable (:
test
Anyone have experience with Gatsby Ash caramel or clear brown on previously dyed hair? (a medium brown) o_o
My hair right now has been dyed but you can only see hints of the brown in light, I've wanted to go lighter than this but I'm not sure which dye to go with >_<

JINGJING's before picture is like the exact color I'm looking for! It looks so nice, but the black is awesome too! ^^

I don't want to risk using the ash blonde dye though incase it turns out bad for me x.x

That's good to know, thanks biggrin.gif I'm thinking I'll go look to see if our Asian food stores have Palty, since it seems that might be a better choice than trying a really light color with American hair dye.

Do not try to bleach out the black because it'll fry
your hair and might not even remove all the colour.

Use a colour remover to remove the black dye first.
There's a product called Color Oops that does that.
After you've done that, you can put some brown dye on it.

WORTH IT?: Yes! I love my hair :)
Natural Hair type: My hair is shoulder-length, naturally straight
Hair History: Lots of dead hair for some reason, even before I dyed hair. I first started dying when I was ten-ish, eleven-ish. In 2008, I grew my hair so most of it was black, then got a bob and kept it black for most of 2008-2009, then dyed it June 2009.
Hair color Before: Black! All natural :)
BEFORE
Hair color After: Reddish brownish thing
AFTER
Bleach?: Nope
Hair Dye: 117 Natural Medium Golden Brown by Nice n' Easy
Price: About 8 bucks
Changes: When I shower, it used to feel dry and really tangly. Now it's very manageable. Also, the color didn't appear exactly as it looked on the box b/c my hair is black but it comes pretty close.
Description: Mm.. I wrapped my head in a plastic bag for about 30-40 mins.
Comments: Usually, when I dye, it appears very well on the top but not on the bottom, which I hate. It's very bright and give me lots of highlights. I dye every 2 months, going a bit lighter from the previous color to see the difference. My hair has always been reddish-brown whenver I dye even though I aim for a rich, chocolate brown :\
FlyingMantou
WORTH IT?: Definitely

Natural Hair type:
-average (but leaning towards thin) thickness
-slightly wavey
-just touching waist length
-naturally dry but really soft and limp

Hair History:
The first time I dyed my hair was at age 12/13. It went from:
Chestnut with copper highlights -> purplish brown with chunky gold streaks -> blue black -> dark-medium brown-red
Then I grew the colour out for 2 years approx, so at least a foot
of my hair was virgin when I started doing the following:

Blonde and black:

Done last November I believe.
The blonde is actually multi-toned (a friend said it reminds her of butterscotch/caramel),
and the bottom layer is the same colour, but for some reason, I don't have a picture
including my bottom layer. Surprisingly, I didn't take many pictures of my hair in this period...

Bright red and black:

Done sometime in March
I just placed the red dye on the blonde parts, so no extra bleaching was done,
apart from the root touch up.
The colour actually looks WAY brighter in person. Then it faded to some interesting
red-blonde that's reminiscent of natural red hair. No pictures unfortunately.

Red-pink and black:

Sometime in April
It was freshly dyed in this picture (washed the dye out that morning).
Looks a bit clumpy because I just got back from school =P
It's actually really close to what the bright red looked like, except
the bright red had a more orange tone.

It later faded into a magenta based pink:

This is right before I dyed it blue:

Blue and black:

The blue is pretty recent. I think I did it a month or so ago.
I've been told it looks like the sea/peacock. There are some purple highlights
in there (though it can't be seen in the photo) since I didn't bother to strip the
red before I threw the blue dye on.

And what my hair looks like from different angles, incase anyone is curious:

All the colour combos were in that design.

Bleach?: Yes
Hair Dye:
Bleach: L'oreal Feria in Extra Bleach Blonde 205
Colours: Pillarbox Red -> Pillarbox Red+Flamingo Pink -> Flamingo Pink -> Atlantic Blue+ Lagoon Blue (all from Punky Colours)
Price: The Feria is around $12-14, the Punky Colours is $10 each

Changes:
My hair actually wasn't too damaged since the bleach was the only thing that
lifted the cuticles of my hair. The Punky Colours actually coated my hair and made
it shiny for the first week since they're made from vegetable oils. I did get more
breakage from the bleaching, but my hair never fell out in clumps, nor did I have any
abnormal hair loss. The hair feels more course too.

Description:
For the bleaching, I first did some chunks on the top and bottom layers to give it more
texture depth. Then I washed it out, blowdried, and did the entire layers for 1 hour.

Then for the red/pink/blue, I just left the dye on for as long as I want. It would usually be
4+ hours. I remember sleeping with the Pillarbox Red+Flamingo Pink mixture.

Comments: - I don't think I'm going back to my natural hair colour for at least the next 5 years =P

WORTH IT?: - YES/NO/KIND OF... -
Natural Hair type:

Hair History: -
-I'm not sure how many times I've dyed my hair
Hair color Before:

Hair color After:

Bleach?: yes
Hair Dye: Something Blue bleach and some pinkish color..

Price: was free someone I knew did it for me.

Changes:
- Damage? Very.
- Texture change? Feels rougher. But the texture is getting better I only did it 3 days ago
Description: - Just put the bleach in my hair and then wrap it in glad wrap for the heat. Did this like 3 times.
Then foiled the red onto my hair.

Comments: - I really like it (: . But I'll try not not to get the red into the blonde parts when I wash my hair.-

Hey, guys, I need some advice. I want to dye my hair a medium brown color. I currently have virgin black hair and my brows are also dark, black, and... not sparse, lol. I noticed that a lot of girls here that dye their hair lighter shades have lighter brows, so it looks okay with their dyed hair.

What do I do about my dark, BLACK brows?

You can bleach your brows so they will be a lighter colour.
I would advise you to do this at a beauty parlour or wherever
this can be done by a professional.

Hi everyone,

Could you guys possibly identify this hair color? http://i39.tinypic.com/2ugnyid.jpg
I'm sort of unsure if I want to go through with this, but it would be nice to have the info for later :]
Also, is there a product that would give me this color on the very first try? (since I have virgin black hair)
Stripping colors doesn't really sound that appetizing, but then again what do I know about hair?
So any advice on first timers and such please feel free to voice your opinions.

Thanks in advance!

Before; natural dark, dark, dark brown ( almost black )
This picture is quite old . Almost two years ago ..

After first Palty "Milk Tea Tart" dye

After second Palty "Vanilla Beige" dye

^^ In natural sunlight

Dyed hair from China ( current hair color )

^^ Bright light, no flash

So my question is, should I go out to dye my whole head ?
I'm don't like my hair being this gold, so I want to change it .
But I don't want to go bald ..........~

Woah ! I'm SO SORRY for the huge pictures .

Question.

I'm planning to dye my hair with palty in a few days time.

I was wondering if it matters that I used heat protection spray and straightened hair a day before dying? Would it effect the outcome of the dye?
andy_solbi_wonder_girls
I'm planning on dyeing my hair this color

or Honey Brown, Caramel Brown, Pure Natural, Juicy Peach, Jewelry Ash or Honey Peanut

I know they're all pretty light colors and I'm wondering if it would match my skin tone (NC 25-30. Pink undertones).

First of all. There is lot of grammar error and trying to type it better. =/ (I have a language problem).

WORTH IT?:
- L'Oreal, because your worth it. wink.gif
Natural Hair type:
- fine
- Both
- short/medium
Hair History: -
-I had so many highlights Blonds & once red/orange (In which I don't have pictures of them) until I want to shortened my hair with half color inside.

Hair color Before: - Dark Brown Hair -

(I look so scary >.<; )

Hair color After:
(June/July 2009)
I went to the barber shop where they can handle the dying colors (and dare to shortened my hair totally). They put it first permit my hair into blond (where my side still keep color natural) and it's way easier to cut my hair down.
So they cut my hair down and edit the color into whole Dark Purple with Blue/Turquoist/Pink highligts.
The cost of this hair is 170 Euro (40 euro's of cutting the hair while the rest are dying stuff, the reason why it's so expensive is they have a better quality). It takes forever for dying my hair (it's like 2 or 3 hours dying my hair and cutting).

(August/september 2009)
I still went to the barber shop after 2/3 month because my hair grows fast.
But the color went off into blond permit because I rubbed hard while taking a shower. I like it because it would be effect to come off into blond. So I keep the color.

(Now)
The blond is almost over and old that I dyed myself into Black.
I tried the Fugde Paintbox Black, but I realize it only worth it for dying pale color (Not on natural color). =/
So I went to the store and bought L'Oreal Paris Excellence Creme in Black for 14 euro.
Instead of for like 15 minutes or 20 minutes, I do 30 minutes or more because I was kinda worried if they still won't stay (gladly it stayed) the color.
As for my hair growing. I'll let my hair grows because the winter is coming up (At summer time, i'll go to barber to shorten my hair same).
The Texture of this color is that I can still see my natural color, but mostly it was covered by black. smile.gif

Description: What I did is to put plastic cap for prossesing. And I'll do the dying for like 3/4 month just for carefull my hair that it won't damage.

Comment:
After dying my hair black, I realize that I really can do dying myself instead of paying from barbershop. So I can't wait for 3 month that I'll dye my hair again! biggrin.gif

Is there a way to touch it up only? Like my roots? Or would it look weird?

Well here's my pics from dyeing my hair
Went from black (virgin hair) to brown-red-ish lol

WORTH IT?: KIND OF...

Natural Hair type:
healthy medium-long black/brown hair

Hair History:
None
Hair color Before: -see pic-
Hair color After: - see pic -
Bleach?: Suprisingly no...the girl used something called a softner instead.
Hair Dye: Um...at the salon?
Price: $45AUD
Changes: no real damage or texture change as far as I can see.

Description:
Softner first then blew dry it
Put color in for 40 mins
Wrapped cling wrap & put me under a heater for like 5-10mins
Washed hair
Blow dry again
Done...~!

Comments:
It's not a drastic change coz this was my first time dyeing at a salon.
A downside is that you can clearly see the color in sunlight
In the shade, ppl couldn't tell or told me your hair is just a shade lighter =\
I wish it was more obvious...

I'm wondering does anyone notice some of the color disappear when you wash your hair?

Softener is basically bleach but has weaker peroxide.

Hey, can anyone tell me how to achieve Taeyeon's current hair colour? (http://www.soompi.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=318641) Like what shade is it exactly? I prefer dying without bleaching beforehand by the way. =)

Seeking advice. smile.gif

I'm planning to get my hair dyed for like the FIRST time ever. :] Thing is, my hair is constantly maintained with hair rebonding/straight perm since it's a bit on the wavy side. I've already done rebonding for like 6-7 times already since I was 12 (and I'm 17 now). And my hair is still soft and natural-looking... so my mom is kind of against this hair dye thing cause a.) she likes my multi-shaded natural hair color and b.) hair dye might just damage my hair the way we expected hair rebonding to damage it. @_@

So the thing is, is there any hair coloring methods that are suggested for people who constantly get straight perms done? And also, since I'm scheduled for rebonding soon, should I dye my hair first or get the rebond first? @_@

As for hair history, by the way, I've never done anything to my hair except rebonding. rofl

Hey guys,

I really need your help!!

My original hair colour is a dark brown. So I went into a "hair show" & they dyed my hair black and reddish purple in some parts (underneath my layers and around the crown area).

But I want to dye my hair a lighter brown using Palty Milk Tea Tart. What would happen to the reddish purple parts? Would it turn out weird?
