Dyed my hair today with Beauteen Caramel Chocolat

Before - Used Naturtint? in Black (3 months ago) over medium brown hair (was bleached at a salon 9-10 months ago)

Now -

It doesn't look very similiar to what was on the back of the box and without the flash its still very dark.

WORTH IT?: Heck no...I hate my result this time. Even looking at the before and after pic is upsetting me sad.gif.
Natural Hair type: Long and straight
Hair History: -
-Virgin/Dyed Dyed many many times
Hair color Before: This is my previous color, obviously not my natural one

Hair color After:

Bleach?: not this time
Hair Dye: - Clairol nice and easy Light Spice
Changes: My hair doesn't feel any more damaged, but I guess that's because I went darker plus the conditioner that comes with the dye is great.
It was supposed to be a light reddish brown, and it's this crappy boring color. I don't want to completely wreck my hair by lightening it a couple days after coloring it so I'm gonna have to wait a while and be stuck with this sad.gif.
JRAWKWHORE`
^ I think your after hair color looks great! Makes me want to dye my hair darker

WORTH IT?: Meh. I guess? Takes a long time to get used to. :l There's so many times I just want to dye it darker, even got an ash brown box in my cabinet in case I want to redye.
Natural Hair type: Long & Curly/Wavy (Cut with a razor)
Hair History: Dyed 4 times
Hair color Before:
Plain black/Dark brown

Hair color After:
Light brown/Dark blonde

Bleach?: Yes
Hair Dye: Done at a Ulta salon, took 4 hours =__=
Price: Originally $95 because of my hair length, but got a discount to $65
Changes: Bleach damaged it like crazy ]: Use deep hair conditioning and it's getting better. Though not as soft as before.
Description: After I walked out, it was hideous ORANGE. Ugh. Someone recommended using Rusk Bright shampoo to get rid of the brassiness and it helped immensely. So yeah, definitely recommended for orange hair lol.

xtiffanyx
Thanks JRAWKWHORE smile.gif...I know the color isn't really terrible but it's just far from the look I was going for.

Your shade of blonde looks good...how long did the Rusk shampoo take to make a noticeable difference? Whenever my hair is lightened and gets too brassy i usually just dye over it with a medium ash blonde, but I know using a shampoo like that would be less damaging.

I dyed my hair JET black yesterday. It's SUPER SUPER SUPER black. I've been told that my natural hair color is the darkest one can get so I thought jet black would be okay, but it's NOT. It looks a little fake if someone knew what my hair looked like before but it doesn't look that bad because I'm Asian...

Has anyone else dyed their hair SUPER black? Does it ever fade to natural black? If not, how much would it cost to get it stripped? I just wanted a very natural looking black... =(
melyfreakk
Black hair dye fades really fast. A few washes would make it look not so dark anymore so I suggest you wait before you strip it.

I had that problem before when I dyed my hair black.. and melyfreakk is right- after a few washes it will fade. What I did when I dyed mines was put EVOO in my hair after three days I had dyed it.. left it in for around 30 mins, and I found that a LOT of colour washed out. I found that solution by simply searching it on the web. Before you go and strip the colour out of your hair(which is really damaging), try the EVOO..if it doesn't work out for you, no harm done since EVOO can help make your hair softer. I also heard using shampoo like PERT can help.. but I'm not sure about this one though.

my hair color fades after i dyed it !
i bleach my hair on april and dyed it blond
on july i bleach again and i dyed deep ash blond which was very dark color but after fews days it faded to a very light blond
last week i dyed it brown/orange but it couldnt achieved that color,it was much more brighter.i noticed in the root (black hair) became a very nice medium brown but the rest(blond) it faded to blond again!!!
im sick of being blond.... how can i make my hair become medium brown??? dye it dark brpwn or somethin? any suggestion?
JRAWKWHORE`
^Ohh. Sounds like you're in a toughie. What I would do is confront a hair stylist because it seems like if you keep trying to redye, it's only going to damage your hair more.. Advice from hair stylists>random soompiers xD

For me to see an actual difference was about a week, but strangely my friends noticed the color change in less than a week haha.

Ok so...I scanned a few pages back but...

I dyed my hair (mostly virgin by that point) at the end of June from my natural black/dark brown to a lighter brown shade. Unfortunately, since I had expressed concern on the difficulty of really obvious roots, the hairdresser in China and my mom talked me into going for a darker color than I originally wanted. Now I want the lighter shade again xD

I talked to my hairdresser here in the US and SHE said that I wouldn't be able to get a lighter color over a dyed color without bleaching/stripping the color...BUT she also said that it isn't supposed to work at least, but she has a friend that it somehow always works on. So she told me I might as well try? Anyways, even if I do dye again, it probably won't be for another 2 months or so (I'm thinking around the holidays), but I wanted to get some Soompi opinions on this smile.gif

Would an Asian hair dye (like Palty) work? Could I get a lighter color by using just a lighter dye (like blonde) even though I would probably have a few inches of roots grown out by then (would it be really uneven)? Thanks biggrin.gif

I have a question.
My hair used to be brown and I dyed it black a couple weeks ago...
and I hate it.
I want to dye it brown again. How should I do it?
I don't want to bleach it.....
xKANA
^ I think the black should start to fade. For me, I dyed my hair brown the first time then I dyed it black twice over the course of three months? It stayed black for a few weeks then it turned brown again...so idk. I don't think you have to bleach it, try dying it a lighter brown then what you intend? I would just wait til it fades and see how your hair is.
commedesgarcons
just wait for the colour to come off eventually.. and then dye it again?
Searesrayne
^^ yeah wait for it to fade cause if you dye brown on black hair you won't see a difference and it may appear darker

use a haircolor remover like color oops...for me i used LOREAL blonde prelightening pack. it removes any permanent hair color dye then lightens your hair. and it works!
CorrectionYou'reWrongImRight
i did a henna dye thing for my already dyed hair..

Has anyone successfully dyed their hair to a nice, TRUE, ashy brown?

I want to dye my hair to a soft, light brown that isn't coppery/rusty =(
me_maoh
I lightened my virgin black hair dark brown almost 2 weeks ago.
It is like a natural dark brown in the sunlight but unnoticeable, kinda.
I want it to be lighter brown color.

If I lightened my colored dark-brown to light brown by using a blonde hair dye, would it work? Would the color show through??
Or would I have to use those color remover kits to get rid of the dark brown dye???
And I don't want to bleach either.

I'm dyeing my hair on Monday at the salon for the first time.
I'm just wondering should my hair be dirty or clean?
Like wash the day before going into the place?
HeartOnHerSleeve
^

Usually the salon will tell you to not wash your hair the day you're getting your hair done. To be safe, I would not wash my hair for two days and then go. You can always call them and ask them what you SHOULD do. At some salons, they wash your hair right before dying it but others do not want it clean.
_serene
I've been wanting to dye my hair lately but the problem is my hair loss because I permed it a few years back (2?) in china and they really messed it up...
I've seen people with like their hair dyed in two colors. (lighter shade on top, darker shade bottom).
Would it be weird if I dyed my BOTTOM part lighter (a brown, palty honey brown) and leave my top layer black?
robotshani
^^ No I think it'd be really cute. When I used to dye my hair like crazy colors it would only ever be the bottom/under half and I always got so many compliments. I think it's a nice transitional way to move into new hair colours, less abrasive then dying the whole thing. Plus it usually looks really super cute. XD

Besides black and honey brown would look so cute together. Just make sure you take a lot of time seeing which kind of part works best [curved/straight] and what amount of hair coloured would look best.

Thanks for the reply. I'm just gonna leave my hair dirty for 2 days & go~

Would the color yield better results better on dirty hair or makes no difference?

I used Garnier Nutrisse #111 Extra Light Ash Blonde (White Chocolate)

Yeah. My hair color before was very dark brown with subtle hints of red, close to black.

The last dye that I used is Clairol Balsam #618 Black. This product gave me a nice natural shade of black unlike two other brands that I used in the past (I was going for the fake black look at the time). The only problem with black dye is it's quite difficult to wash off your skin.

I died mine black almost a year ago and the bottom half of my hair is still black and no light colors will stick to it. Only the top half that's grown out will actually dye. So it all depends on the dye you used I guess... Maybe you used a semi permanent?

i can't manage dye the roots myself (is there a tip/trick?) and i don't have 50bucks every third month to get it done by a hair dresser :-/

The instructions suggested that you leave the dye on for 35 - 45 minutes, but I left it on for about an hour and thirty minutes ph34r.gif Still works. I also had another box of dark brown dye just in case I didn't get the result I wanted. In the end, there was no need for me to use the other box.

Natural Hair type: Fine, wavy and medium

Hair History: Only died one other time, and it was done professionally, and it had come out way dark brown with red tint:

Did not like it, waited till it faded.

Bleach?: Nope
Hair Dye: Color silk, light auburn.

Changes: Not much damage was done at all, hair was pretty much in the same condition before.
My hair seems a bit thicker actually.

I really did like the color it came out to, only bummer is with dying red hair it doesn't last long at all, it fades the fastest. Next time I might bleach it first then dye it so I'll get the full color out of it, not just my hair with red tint. But I still really liked the outcome smile.gif

I wouldn't dye it again the day after because chances are it won't come out the way you want it. What color did you dye it, and what color do you want? because you can get a color corrector if it was just a dye job gone bad lol this one from Sallys works REALLY well http://www.sallybeauty.com/Color-Corrector...?cgid=Hair05-10

Very nice, jingjing. If that's what ash blonde looks like on black hair, I wonder what grey/silver dye would turn out like. Perhaps an ashier brown or worst case, a dark grey colour...
chibi_ryou
I love all the hair colors! :]
I'm seriously considering on dying my virgin black hair [at home]... My question is, what shade should I get to achieve an ashy brown [that's not too gray.. and I don't want a reddish brown]? I want it to be noticeable that my hair is dyed. And also, do I have to get a shade lighter than the color I want since it's hard for the dye to show up on black hair?

Also, I'm not planning on bleaching my hair.. or if I want to get the color, do I have to "bleach" my hair first by dying it blonde before dying it the ashy brown? Please give me suggestions! ^^

EDIT! the color that i'm looking for....:

After I dyed my hair a light brown [with kind of an orange tint >_<], every time I color it black it fades to red. Does anyone know how to get rid of the red tint? Or what I should dye it with to get rid of it? I just want black hair not red >_<
FlyingMantou
^ Most black dyes fade when you use it over a light colour. You can try dyeing your hair black 2 times consecutively so you'll get a lot of black pigment into your hair. I've only read about this, never tried it personally, so I can't say if it'll counteract the fading effect.

Well here's my pics from dyeing my hair
Went from black (virgin hair) to brown-red-ish lol

TO

WORTH IT?: KIND OF...

Natural Hair type:
healthy medium-long black/brown hair

Hair History:
None
Hair color Before: -see pic-
Hair color After: - see pic -
Bleach?: Suprisingly no...the girl used something called a softner instead.
Hair Dye: Um...at the salon?
Price: $45AUD
Changes: no real damage or texture change as far as I can see.

Description:
Softner first then blew dry it
Put color in for 40 mins
Wrapped cling wrap & put me under a heater for like 5-10mins
Washed hair
Blow dry again
Done...~!

Comments:
It's not a drastic change coz this was my first time dyeing at a salon.
A downside is that you can clearly see the color in sunlight
In the shade, ppl couldn't tell or told me your hair is just a shade lighter =\
I wish it was more obvious...

I'm wondering does anyone notice some of the color disappear when you wash your hair?

Hair Dye: Clairol Nice 'n Easy Natural Light Brown 116
Price: NZ$13.49
Changes: hair still feels pretty much the same, still soft~
Description: I didn't follow the directions.. I just put it all over my head except for the roots for about 35 mins then did my roots and left it on for another 10 mins.
Comments: Its alright, the colour isn't anything special but I like how its kinda more yellow than orangey/reddish. I was actually after ash brown because I didn't want any red/orange but they didn't have it so I just got this, after I bought it I saw on the box it said its a neutral colour which provides soft beige tones and that to reduce red/gold tones you would need a cool shade so next time I'll try a cool shade smile.gif Oh yeah, during the application the dye smelt sooo bad =_= the worst I've smelt compared to L'oreal/Garnier.. which is weird because after washing my hair my hair smells less chemically than the previous L'oreal/Garneir dyes I've used @_@
